The hosts of the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifiers, Zimbabwe takes on United Arab Emirates in a do or die match on Thursday. Zimbabwe requires a win to book their seat in England 2019 but a loss will frustrate and shut down their dream of going to World Cup. UAE has nothing to lose and they will play a role of spoiling others dream. Super Sixes match 8 between Zimbabwe vs UAE is schedule to start at 9:30 AM Local | 1 PM IST on Thursday, 22nd March 2018.
The home crowd are backing their team and those support drives Zimbabwe forward to their destiny. Just one loss against West Indies in the last game, puts Zimbabwe in to a must win situation. A collective team performances will take Zimbabwe to the main event and they have a good combination of batters and bowlers. The 33-years old opening batsman Cephas Zhuwao producing a flying start for the team with his quick run scoring techniques. He was misfired against Windies but he would be back good against UAE bowlers. Solomon Mire who hits on the nose during the match against West Indies, retired hurt immediately but then came to bat in the last power-play. As he looked good, hope for him to keep his place safe as an opener. The experienced Hamilton Masakadza managed to score only a half-century in 6 innings. Zimbabwe desperately wants him to go for runs in this clash. The former captain Brendan Taylor smashed his second hundred of the tournament when he scored 138 runs against West Indies. He has scored a total of 442 runs in 6 matches and will add more runs to his name on Thursday. Craig Ervine bats at no. 5 and playing a supportive role. He was a match-winner of Zimbabwe few months ago, but he is playing just a cameos these days. If he play a big knock in this game, he will cement his place in the XI. Due to his an average performances, some possible chances for Malcolm Waller to replace him in the XI.
All rounders Sean Willams and Sikandar Raza are a crucial players in middle-order positions. Sean Williams who returned back to the side after some break, claimed a tally of 5 wickets in 4 matches in the tournament. He was the star performer of Zimbabwe couple of seasons ago, but he struggles to play on his full potential for a long time now. Hopefully, this will be Sean Williams day and he will shine with both bat and ball. Sikandar Raza’s stunning form as he scored a ton and two half-centuries with the bat and also claimed 12 wickets with a ball. Undoubtedly, Raza has a role to play in this game. Captain Greame Cremer was slightly expensive against West Indies, other than that he was good with a ball and picked 11 wickets in 6 matches. The left-arm spinner Tendai Chisoro remained wicket-less but scored crucial runs in the last game. Chisoro is expected to keep his place safe for this game. Pace bowler Blessing Muzarabani had bowled a good spell in the last game and that will help him to keep his place safe. But the other pace Kyle Jarvis might make a way for Tendai Chatara in this game.
The doors are closed to be a part of World Cup 2019 for United Arab Emirates but they have to complete the formalities by playing their last Super Sixes match against Zimbabwe on Thursday. Rohan Mustafa led-side registered two wins out of 5 matches which forced them to be out of the tournament. But, still UAE could change the fate of some teams by winning this clash. If UAE upsets Zimbabwe then the host will be out of the equation. Captain Rohan Mustafa’s all around performances are back-bone of this UAE squad. Without Rameez Shahzad, middle-order became weaker and that caused their chances at World Cup. The team trusted an opener Chirag Suri too much but he didn’t perform well in recent matches. In the last game against Afghanistan, Suri took 72 balls to score 22 runs and he also dismissed for a duck against Scotland. So, they may drop him for this game and Ashfaq Ahmed will replaces him. Nothing gone on Mustafa’s way other day but, he remains as an asset of the team and he will play a key role with both bat and ball.
Wicket keeper Ghulam Shabber and Mohammad Boota are under pressure right now as both of them failed to score runs all through this tournament. The veteran Shaiman Anwar batted well in the last game for his 64 runs and he needs to play similar knock once again to finish the tournament on high. The middle-order batsman Muhammad Usman is well experienced and plays consistently well at no. 6. He scored 80 runs against Scotland a week ago and no wonder if he come with another big knock in this clash. Bowlers Ahmed Raza and Mohammad Naveed supported the batting unit with an impressive cameos in one match each. Raza scored half-century against Scotland while Naveed smashed a quick-fire 45 runs off just 20 balls against Afghan. With a ball, Naveed is the leader of the attack and he claimed 11 wickets in 6 matches which includes a five-fer against PNG. The left-arm spinner Raza had taken only 3 wickets in 6 matches but still he will retains his place in the XI. The leg-spinner Imran Haider and the pacer Qadeer Ahmed were other bowlers played the last game and both of them are expected to keep their places in the XI.
