WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS – DAY 1 MATCHES – FANTASY PREVIEW

Road to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 begins in Zimbabwe with World Cup Qualifiers tournament. As top 8 ODI rankings team has been qualified directly, the International Cricket Council (ICC) conducts the tournament to finalize which two teams are going to fill the mega cricket event. World Cup Qualifiers tournament kick starts with four matches on coming Sunday. All four matches are schedule to start at 9:30 AM Local (Zimbabwe) time. We gives you short preview for all four matches, here.

 

1st MATCH – PNG V UAE :

The team Papua New Guinea eyes on their first ever Cricket World Cup but for that they have to come inside top two in this tournament. The experienced Assad Vala is the captain of the team and they have some quality players in their group. Lega Siaka, Tony Ura and Kiplin Doriga – all three of them are key batsmen for PNG. The consistency of all-rounder Mahuru Dai with bat and bowl will play a huge role for PNG in this tournament. Skipper Assad Vala is also an experienced all-rounder and he led the team well in recent times. Pace bowler Chad Soper is the asset for PNG who had picked 9 wickets in his first two ODI matches. Norman Vanua and John Reva are other notable bowlers in PNG camp.

The United Arab Emirates aiming their 3rd appearance in the Cricket World Cup as they have already featured in 1996 and 2015 editions. All Rohan Mustafa led-side have won World Cricket League – Division 2 title to qualify for Qualifiers. The experienced Shaiman Anwar, Ashfaq Ahmed, Rameez Shahzad, Mohammad Usman and Ghulam Shabber are an important batsmen in the UAE squad. Skipper Rohan Mustafa is the quality all rounder. The well experienced bowler Mohammad Naveed, Zahoor Khan, Ahmad Raza and Imran Haider are well notable key bowlers of UAE.

2nd MATCH – IRELAND V NETHERLANDS :

The European nations Ireland and Netherlands meets in a face-off in the second match. Ireland is one of the favorite in the competition and they known for upsets in World Cups. Skipper William Porterfield, Andy Balbirnie, Ed Joyce and Gary Wilson are lined up to offer quality batting. Don’t forget about an all-rounders Kevin O’Brien and Paul Stirling, those two could change the game at any moment. The wicket-taking bowlers Barry McCarthy, George Dockrell, Andy McBrine, Boyd Rankin and Tim Murtagh are strengthening Ireland’s bowling unit.

The Orange team Netherlands have won the ICC World Cricket League to regain ODI status along with place in Qualifiers. Netherlands regular captain Peter Borren will lead the team again at bigger stage and his team has number of quality players. Key batsmen are Wesley Barresi, Ben Cooper, Max O’Dowd and Sikandar Zulfiqar. The most experienced all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate, captain Borren and Roelof van der Merwe are available to take care of all-rounders duties. Timm van der Gugten, Paul van Meekeran, Pieter Seelaar, Shane Snater will take care of bowling duties for the team.

3rd MATCH – ZIMBABWE V NEPAL :

The host country Zimbabwe takes on Nepal in their first match of the tournament. Zimbabwe who used to take part in almost every World Cup in the past, under pressure now to qualify especially when are they playing at home turf. Captain Graeme Cremer and his men looking forward to come out from their disappointing tour of UAE recently. An experienced batsmen Hamilton Masakadza, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor and Malcolm Waller are in the squad to ease batting pressure. The return of all-rounder Sean Williams will boost the team’s confidence and he is expected to play much bigger role in Zimbabwe’s campaign. Key all rounder Sikandar Raza has a lot of job to do with both bat and bowl. Skipper Graeme Cremer, Tendai Chatara, Kyle Jarvis and Blessing Muzarabani are Zimbabwe’s key bowlers.

The country in Himalayas, Nepal has been qualified to this tournament by finished at second best team in a recent World Cricket League Division 2. Skipper Paras Khadka is the major asset of the team. Key batsmen are Gyanendra Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Rohit Kumar and Sharad Vesawkar. All rounders captain Khadka and KC Karan has done their best in a recent tournament to assure the place in qualifiers. Now they have much bigger job to do for taking their team to their first World Cup. The 17-years old magical leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is the most important key bowler of Nepal and they also has bowlers like Basant Regmi, Sompal Kami and Shakti Gauchan.

4th MATCH – AFGHANISTAN V SCOTLAND :

Top favorite Afghanistan starts their campaign with the match against Scotland. They are currently at 10th in the ICC ODI rankings and aiming World Cup birth. Afghanistan is one of the well balanced team in the tournament. The regular captain Asghar Stanikzai is not available for first few matches as he was sidelined with appendicitis. On the absence of him, the star bowler Rashid Khan led the team in warm-ups. Hopefully, Rashid will take an honour of leading the team in their first match too. The explosive Mohammad Shahzad, Ihsanullah, Nasir Jamal, Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran are much notable batsmen in Afghanistan squad. The experienced Mohammad Nabi, Sharafuddin Ashraf and Samiullah Shenwari will offer all-round duties while Rashid Khan will take care of spin department. Mujeeb Zadran is the other talented teen spinner in the squad. Dawlat Zadran, Gulbadin Naib and Shapoor Zadran would take care of pace bowling.

Scotland is set to play under the captaincy of power-hitting opener Kyle Coetzer. The team has well mixed of talented batsmen and bowlers in it. Along with skipper Coetzer, the vice-captain Richie Berrington, Matthew Cross, Michael Jones, Calum MacLoed and George Munsey are ready to set the good total for the team with their batting skills. All-rounder Michael Leask offers an explosive batting along with quality spell of bowling. Safyaan Sharif, Alasdair Evans, Mark Watt and Stuart Whittingham are much important bowlers in Scotland squad.
