WC Qualifiers – Super Sixes – Match 2 – UAE vs Scotland – Fantasy Preview

Associate teams with the ODI status, The United Arab Emirates and Scotland extended their run in the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifiers by qualifying to Super Sixes round. Both teams set to meet in Super Sixes match no. 2.  Scotland team did not face a defeat in Group stage and they takes on the team which finished with 2 wins and 2 losses each in Group A, UAE. Super Sixes – match 2 between UAE vs Scotland is schedule to start at 9:30 AM Local | 1 PM IST on Thursday, 15th March 2018.



The all-rounder Rohan Mustafa led-side faced lots of ups and downs in the first stage of the tournament. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) started their WC Qualifiers campaign with a big win against PNG. But, West Indies gave them a first defeat by 60 runs. UAE bounced back well and upset Netherlands with 6 wickets win in their 3rd game. Then, Ireland stopped UAE’s momentum with a huge 226 runs win in the last group game. UAE has lost all their momentum in the match against Ireland when they were bowled out for just 91 runs. Skipper Rohan Mustafa is the most impact player in this UAE squad and he leads the team with his all-round work. He smashed a match-winning 95 runs against PNG and also claimed a five-wicket haul against Netherlands. When he did not perform well, UAE faced defeats. Ashfaq Ahmed and Chirag Suri will fight for one place at the top order. Suri used to take lot of time to settle down and his strike-rate wasn’t impressive. Ashfaq Ahmed has had a very good track record since his debut to the national side few months ago. He is expected to open an innings along with his captain Rohan Mustafa.

The wicket-keeper batsman Ghulam Shabber is the regular no. 3 for UAE. He struggled all through Group stage, but there is a chance for him shine with the bat in this game. Rameez Shahzad was rested for the last game, he will be back in the side and the team expects a long batting innings from him. He already scored a ton in the game against West Indies. The veteran Shaiman Anwar had two back-to-back poor matches with a bat but he till remains as a key batsman of this UAE squad. Middle-order batsmen Muhammad Usman and Adnan Mufti has a crucial role to play in the second half of batting innings. Usman is one of the important batsman in the lineup and he will help the team with his responsible batting. Imran Haider and Ahmed Raza will continue to take care of business in spin department but they should pick at least 2 wickets each to assure a win for their team. The experienced Mohammad Naveed claimed a 5 wicket haul against PNG and 3 wicket haul against Ireland. He is the key bowler without a doubt, but he should take care on his economy-rate. Zahoor Khan has a  chance to replaces Amir Hayat in this game.



Scottish team raised many eyebrows by providing upset after upset during the Group stage. First, they defeated one of the tournament favorite Afghanistan by 7 wickets and then registered their second win, this time it was against Hong Kong. In their third game, Scotland beat Nepal by 4 wickets and their last group game against Zimbabwe was tied. The batting order looks solid and settled with players like skipper Kyle Coetzer, Matthew Cross, Callum MacLeod and Richie Berrington. Captian Coetzer lead from the front with scores 41*, 88* and 39 runs respectively. He is the most dangerous batsman in this squad and he will play another good knock in this game. The wicket keeper Matthew Cross accompanying his captain at top order. Cross had an average outings in group matches, hope for some better show from him in this crucial super sixes stage. After that huge 157 runs against Afghanistan in the first game, Calum MacLeod managed to score only 26 runs in last three innings. He might comeback to form with a fine performances by utilizing an average bowling attack of UAE.

The vice-captain Richie Berrington contributes with both bat and bowl in the tournament. He started it with 67 runs and a three wicket haul and also scored much needed 47 runs against Zimbabwe. He will be the other key player in this batting order. George Munsey and Craig Wallace are Scotland’s regular middle-order batsmen. But their poor performances might open the gate for the youngster Michael Jones. Wallace could be the man who possibly makes a way for Jones. All-rounder Michael Leask made a point with his match-winning all around efforts in the last game. He made his place safe with 4 wickets for 37 and also with run-a-ball 28 runs. He is the hard-hitting player and he assures quick scoring at end overs. Scotland has tried all of their pace battery by giving an opportunities to everyone. Alastair Evans and Safyaan Sharif are their first choice bowlers, but they used to surprise all with Brad Wheal and Stu Whittingham. Wheal claimed 4 wickets in 3 matches while Whittgham picked 3 wickets in his only appearance. Tom Sole and Mark Watt will take care of spin attack and both of them contributing well in this tournament.
