The Caribbean team dominated Group A with 4 out of 4 victories and qualified to Super Sixes by finishing top of the group with NRR +1.171. Almost every player in the squad have contributed for the team in different occasions. Not only batsmen, bowlers also performed well to keep the momentum high all through group stage. The star player Chris Gayle started off the tournament with a massive century and he also played an aggressive knock of 46 off 31 balls in the last match. The other opener Evin Lewis in some mixed batting form. After had some bit trouble in first 3 clashes, Lewis came with an important 84 runs inning in the last game. Shimron Hetmyer had scored his maiden century on his very second ODI innings against UAE in the first game. He also contributed with runs in rest of the matches but those were not that much effective. The veteran middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels finally got his form back and going to Super Sixes with a match-winning 73 not out knock on his back. The wicket keeper batsman Shai Hope scored a quick 35 runs off 27 balls in the first game, since that game he struggled to score runs and didn’t live up to the expectation in last few matches. All the above mentioned batsmen has a role to play in this game against Afghanistan. They have to face and handle a heavy spin attack from an opposition. The most dangerous Chris Gayle could be the first choice pick in the batting unit, but keep an eye on Lewis, Samuels and Heymyer too.

All-rounders Carlos Brathwaite, Rovman Powell and skipper Jason Holder taking care both middle-order batting and bowling. Captain Holder led team from the front in almost every match. First, he contributed with a five wicket haul against UAE and smashed an unbeaten 99 runs off 101 balls against PNG in a second game. Then, he scored a fought-hard century and also claimed two wickets in third match. Rovman Powell is in hot-form with scores 101 and 52 runs respectively. He coming to bat at no. 7 and playing some real good batting innings to take team to par total. Carlos Brathwaite didn’t get much of an opportunity to score runs but he did it well with a ball to claim five-wicket haul against PNG. The off-spinner Ashley Nurse kept his place safe in all 4 group A matches and claimed only 2 wickets. He might retain his spot in the XI once again. Kemar Roach and Kesrick Williams are their front-line pace options and both of them had offered some decent show in recent matches. As West Indies likely to go with an unchanged XI, both Roach and Williams will retains their places.

Somehow someway Afghanistan made it to Super Sixes round after their frustrating performances in the group stage. The team which started the tournament as a favorite of Group B, faced three hurting losses in a row before winning the game against Nepal in their last match. Some luck went on their way finally as Nepal beat Hong Kong, Rashid Khan led-side have been qualified to the next level. As they are facing the top team in the competition, Afghan players must bring their best efforts in all departments to win the game. Mohammad Shahzad who was banned for last two matches of Group stage, now available and he will back to an opening position. He should play an aggressive innings to get back his team to winning streak. Ihsanullah Janat thrown out all of his chances and he gave away his place to Javed Ahmedi. The top-order batsman Ahmedi contributed with two 20+ knocks in both matches he batted. He is the good player and could expect some good show from him in this game. The consistent batsman in Afghanistan unit, Rahmat Shah also had ups and downs during group stage but he finished off very useful 46 runs against Nepal. That knock would give him confidence and he could possibly come with much better performances in this crucial clash. As Nasir Jamal didn’t utilized multiple opportunities, the experienced Samiullah Shenwari returned back to the side but he yet to impress with his batting performances.

The senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi was the most consistent player of Afghan side during that Group stage. He had scored a total of 215 runs in 4 innings with highest score of 92 runs. He also did a great job with a ball and claimed a tally of 8 wickets in 4 matches. He is the top player of the team at the moment and definitely deserves a place in your fantasy teams. After Nabi, middle-order batsman Najibullah Zadran was the best batsman in the first stage of the tournament. His scores were 67, 4, 32 and 52* respectively. He has a huge role to play once again and this time against West Indies. Afghanistan has struck with triple-spin bowling attack but some had gone their way and some didn’t. The 16-years old Mujeeb Ur Rahman topped the bowling attack with a tally of 9 wickets in 4 matches which includes two three-wicket hauls. He is set to play another key role with a bowl for his team in this clash. The left-arm spinning all-rounder Sharafuddin Ashraf just wasted all of his opportunities in those four matches. He was one of the failure who managed to score only 7 runs in 3 innings and also picked only a wicket in 4 innings. The team might move on from him and could possibly add extra pace bowler on his expense. The sensational Rashid Khan handles leadership role in the tournament and he failed to bring his best all through group stage. He is the match winner of the team but he just managed to pick 7 wickets and also conceded lot of runs. If he is back to his old form then he will assure a victory for his team on Thursday. Shapoor Zadran did a good job in last two matches, therefore he would keep his place safe along with Gulbadin Naib.
