In the second match of Fantastic Friday double-header, bottoms of the table Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United meet in the clash in the ongoing Pakistan Super League – Season 3. Once again, Lahore Qalandars are at bottom of the table in the PSL, will they turn their fortune and start their account with this game? Match 11 between Lahore Qalandars vs Islamabad United is schedule to start at 8 PM Local | 9:30 PM IST on Friday, 2nd March 2018.

The bottom of the table of past two seasons, Lahore Qalandars looked for positive start in this new season. But nothing went on their way in first three matches of the season. With those 3 out 3 losses Qalandars are bottom of the table once again. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum is the captain of Lahore Qalandars in this season too. His bad luck as captain continues, as his team members failed with both bat and bowl again and again. McCullum who departed without scoring a run in the first game, led from the front with scores of quick 30 and 44 runs respectively in last two games. Not having a right combination of an overseas players are one of the major problems in Qalandars side. The magical off-spinner Sunil Narine used to open the innings in T20 leagues for more than year now and he is doing the same role for Qalandars too. He provided two quick starts for the team at top of the order but rest of the batsmen didn’t capitalize the momentum created by Narine. With a ball, Narine struggled for his form in first two matches but he came back to his real form when he claimed 2 for 18 in 4 overs against Kings in the last game.

Qalandars brought in wicket keeper Dinesh Ramdin on the expense of hard-hitter Cameron Delport in the last game. Ramdin responded with a poor innings of 11 off 19 balls. Therefore, Qalandars might go back to Delport again. The big-hitting all-rounder from New Zealand, Anton Devcich is very useful player with both bat and bowl but no idea why Qalandars keeps him away from the playing XI. If they add Devcich in the XI, it would help them in a big way. Pakistan’s most trustable top order batsman in 2017, Fakhar Zaman started off with 49 off 30 balls. But after he moved down to three in the batting order, he managed to score 1 and 19 runs respectively. Zaman is the major key batsman of Qalandars and could expect much bigger knock from him on Friday. After poor batting performances of Gulraiz Sadaf and Dinesh Ramdin with a bat, Umar Akmal is expected to take back the wicket-keeper role in this fixture. Akmal had scored only 1 and 6 runs in last two matches, he needs to be back with runs to create winning chances for his team. Middle-order batsman Sohail Akhtar has played an useful cameos in first two matches with scores 21 and 20 runs respectively. He will keep his place in the playing XI.

Qalandars had thrown out Raza Hasan and brought in Sohail Khan in the last match. Sohail Khan regained his full fitness and picked 2 wickets other night. But he conceded 45 runs in his spell which he need to correct in the upcoming matches. The all-rounder Agha Salman got his opportunity in the last game but he managed to score less than run-a-ball 15. Aamer Yamin who was dropped after the first game, probably will back in to the XI on Friday. The leg-spinner Yasir Shah had bowled well in the last game and picked 2 for 25 in his 4 overs. He is the well experienced bowler and has plenty of responsibilities on his shoulders. Pakistan U-19 bowler Shaheen Afridi had played all three matches in Dubai and went unsuccessful in all those matches with expensive spells. His place is under big threat as either Imran Khan or Ghulam Mudassir are expected to replaces him in this game. Bangladesh star Mustafizur Rahman will leave for the national duties after this game. He was very consistent and an economical in all those three matches, therefore he will play this game before leave the team.

The inaugural season Champions Islamabad United had registered their first win after the big beat-up in the first game. Their competitive victory over Multan Sultans created lot of expectations on them. But, they went to collective poor performances with bat and bowl and lost the game to Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday night. The positive sign was there when the skipper Misbah-ul-Haq made his return to the squad after recovered from hamstring injury other night. But things didn’t go on their favor. The big-hitting wicket-keeper batsman from New Zealand Luke Ronchi, finally got his original form back and smashed 43 off 26 balls in the last game. When he is in form, he will go for big runs. So, we could expect another explosive knock from him on Friday night. Chadwick Walton accompanied Ronchi at top of the order in all three matches. But the pair didn’t offer a solid start with healthy partnership for the opening wicket. As Islamabad side would look to bring back Andre Russell to the XI after he was rested for the last game, Walton might go to bench on Friday.

South Africa’s JP Duminy who was in good form back in the T20I series against India, expected to play a big role other night. But, Duminy struggled a lot and managed to score only 14 runs in 26 balls. We couldn’t judge him with that one bad performance, on his standards he could bring a match-winning performances at any moment. Don’t forget his off-spin bowling will also come in to play at certain stage. The veteran skipper Misbah started off his innings in nice style. But later on, he started to struggle and departed for 22 off 25 balls in the last game. It seems Misbah was recovered fully from an injury and will take a part in this game. The match-winning knock of 48 off 34 balls against Sultans brighten up Hussain Talat’s place in middle-order. He remained not out for 9 runs in the last game. We might witness one more good knock from him on this weekend.

The all-rounder Faheem Ashraf not at his best at the moment with a ball, but he consistently playing a handy cameos with the bat. First he scored 30 balls 54-runs knock against Zalmi and then scored 21 off 13 balls in the last game. With a ball, he managed to pick only 2 wickets in 3 matches. There were too much expectations on last year’s raising star Shadab Khan. But, consistent poor performances with a ball push Shadab down match after match. He is a well talented young all-rounder and he is expected to be back with wickets in this game. Andre Russell is expected to be in the XI for this crucial game. The star all-rounder didn’t perform well with neither bat or bowl in first two matches. He should come with better performances to keep the tag match-winner. The pace trio Mohammad Sami, Rumman Raees and Steven Finn has done their best in the bowling unit. Rumman Raees who was injured during the last match, not available for this game. On Raees absence, the left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar is expected to be in the playing XI for this game. Mohammad Sami and Steven Finn are the key bowlers for Islamabad.
