The third season of Pakistan Super League set to begin on February 22. Pakistan’s own T20 league welcomes the new franchise Multan Sutans and with that tournament turns as six teams competition. Players draft were done few months ago and as some players not available due to various reasons, franchises picked some more players in replacement draft recently. All six franchises has confirmed their final squads ahead of season 3.



The champions of the inaugural season, Islamabad United finished at 4th place and failed to make playoffs in the title defending season, last year. The 43-years old veteran Misbah-ul-Haq captaining the team for third straight season and his experiences will come into play once again. United has retained some of their key players like Andre Russell, Mohammad Sami and Rumman Raees. Pakistan’s young spin magic Shadab Khan will play for Islamabad United along Faheem Ashraf. England players Sam Billings, Alex Hales, David Willey and Steven Finn all set to play for United in this season. JP Duminy, Asela Gunaratne, Luke Ronchi and Chadwick Walton are other overseas players in the United squad.

The Karachi based franchise failed to qualify for the Final last year as they lost to Peshawar Zalmi in a 3rd qualifying final. The all-rounder Imad Wasim will lead Karachi Kings for the first time and he has a plenty of talented players in the squad. Former captain and the T20 specialist Shahid Afridi set to play another season for Karachi Kings. Pakistan’s batting sensation Babar Azam and speedster Mohammad Amir also retained for the upcoming season and they will play a big role for Kings. England captain Eoin Morgan, Lendl Simmons, Ravi Bopara, Joe Denly, Colin Ingram, David Wiese and Tymal Mills are the overseas players who represent Karachi Kings this year. Notable domestic players are Mohammad Rizwan, Usama Mir, Usman Khan, Khurram Manzoor and Mohammad Irfan Jr. Among above mentioned players Usama Mir had a good season last year for Kings.

Two back-to-back disappointing PSL seasons for Lahore Qalandars and they were finished bottom of the table in both seasons. Qalandars managed to win only 5 matches out of 16 in last 2 seasons, they are looking for redemption and eyes on title this time. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum continue to be the captain of Qalandars and his recent form gives a lot of hope for the team. Sunil Narine who emerged as an all-rounder in 2017, will play another season for Lahore franchise. Big hitters Chris Lynn, Cameron Delport, Anton Devcich and wicket keeper from Caribbean Denesh Ramdin are drafted to Qalandars squad. Bowlers Mitchell McClenaghan and Mustafizur Rahman are other overseas players in Qalandars squad this year. Umar Akmal, Fakhar Zaman, Yasir Shah, Aamir Yamin, Sohail Khan and Shaheen Afridi are a notable Pakistan players in the Lahore based franchise squad.

The brand new franchise Multan Sultans joins as the sixth team in the PSL 2018 and set to make to impression straight away with lot of experienced players. Senior batting all-rounder and the former captain of Pakistan Shoaib Malik has been named as a captain of Sultans and he is all ready to lead the team in this season. The power-hitting all rounder from West Indies Kieron Pollard representing Multan Sultans this year in PSL. Kumar Sangakkara, Darren Bravo, Imran Tahir, Nicholas Pooran, Thisara Perera and Ross Whiteley are the other overseas players in Sultans squad. South Africa’s domestic bowler Hardus Viljoen also in the squad of Sultans. T20 specialist bowler Sohail Tanvir will lead the bowling attack and his experience in the shorter format will help the team in big way. Ahmed Shehzad, Sohaib Maqsood and Shan Masood are well notable local batsmen in the squad and they also have an experienced bowler Umar Gul in their side. Pace heavy Sultans side has bowlers such as Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan too.

Men in yellow finished at top of the table and also won their first PSL title under the captaincy of Darren Sammy, last year. The defending champions will play under the captaincy Darren Sammy once again in this title defending season. Zalmi roped in players like Dwayne Bravo and Evin Lewis to their squad this year. Player of the tournament last year, Kamran Akmal may continue his red-hot form which he got last season. Bangladesh stars Tamim Iqbal and Shakib al Hasan will be available only for the first few matches before they move to national duties. Dwayne Smith, Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan and Andre Fletcher are other overseas players in yellow color this year. The experienced all rounder Mohammad Hafeez, Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Saad Nasim and Mohammad Asghar are in the squad of Zalmi and all of them have a role to play in this title defending season.

The runners-up of last year, Sarfraz Ahmed led Quetta Gladiators set to play under his captaincy once again. Pakistan captain looking forward to finish the job this time and win the first PSL title for Gladiators. Afghanistan’s most wanted bowler Rashid Khan will play for Gladiators along with an experienced Kevin Pietersen and Shane Watson. Jason Roy, Mahmudullah, Rilee Rossouw, John Hastings, Ben Laughlin and Chris Green are other foreign players who representing Quetta Gladiators this season. Recent sensation of T20 cricket, Jofra Archer set to play his first PSL season and he will play for Gladiators. Asad Shafiq, Anwar Ali, Rahat Ali, Mir Hamza, Umar Amin and Ramiz Raja Jr. are the notable players from Pakistan domestic circuit.
