Hong Kong T20

In match day 4, Hong Kong T20 Blitz hosts yet another double header. In the first match of the day, table toppers Hung Hom Jaguars and Galaxy Gladiators Lantau fights for 2 more points. At the moment Jaguars tops the table with 2 wins in 2 matches and net run rate of +2.213. Just like the opening match against Kaitak, Jaguars defeated Kowloon Cantons convincingly by 6 wickets and in a supreme form at the moment. Riki Wessels’s sparkling 91 runs off just 37 balls helped Jaguars to chased down the target of 170+ with 5 overs to spare. Johan Botha offered all around performances with 44 runs and 2 wickets. Ben Laughlin claimed 2 for 19 runs second time in a row. Lots of positive vibes in this team right now and they are looking forward to win three in a trout. Skipper Kinchit Shah is not in a great form but his partner Nizakat Khan playing very handy knocks at top order. Riki Wessels should maintain the momentum by scoring more runs for the team. Jaguars middle-order filled with an overseas stars such as Johan Botha, Roelof van der Merwe and Darren Sammy. Both Botha and Van der Merwe does a good job in both matches. Roelof van der Merwe could be a man who shines better than others in this game. Sammy bowled an expensive spell on Thursday, hopefully will perform better in this game. Both domestic bowlers Nadeem Ahmed and Kyle Christie went for too many runs in their spells against Kowloon, still both of them will retain their places in the XI. Ben Laughlin’s experience is the key in bowling unit and he did a great job by picking 1 for 19 runs each in both matches. Ninad Shah and McKenchie had nothing to do with both bat and bowl. They might earn their chances in this game.

Kumar Sangakkara’s men fought back hard and found a way back to be in the tournament after that disappointing first match. Cameron Delport’s stunning half-century and a handy contributions of Sangakkara and Devcich helped Gladiators to chase down 160 runs target with ease. Devcich had a very good day with both bat and bowl. First he claimed 3 wickets in 4 overs spell followed by an unbeaten 43 runs. Gladiators bowlers did a good job for the second time in a row. Apart form Devcich, James Franklin, Dernbach and Imran Arif also bowled well once again for Gladiators. Skipper Sangakkara who failed with the bat in the first game, scored a quick-fire 35 runs off 18 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. He was back to opening position and hopes for more runs from him on Friday. Balal Muhammad replaced Amandeep Singh at top of the order, but he failed with just 4 runs. So, the team may bring back Amandeep to the XI. Delport who dismissed for frustrating golden duck other day, played match-winning knock and remained unbeaten with 70 runs. The explosive batsman could possibly play another explosive knock in this game. All around efforts by Anton Devcich was very helpful for Gladiators and he must come with similar performance on Friday too. All rounder James Franklin had picked 3 wickets in the first game but he conceded bit of runs in the last game. The experiences of Franklin will play a key role in both departments. Local player Imran Arif added 2 more wickets to his name and bowled a good spell too. Shahid Wasif and Munir Dar are expected to get a good game against Jaguars.

The defending champions Kowloon Cantons takes on the runners up of last year City Kaitak in a second match of the day on Friday. Both Kowloon and Kaitak has won 1 match each and sits at no.3 and 4 in the points table respectively. Kowloon Cantons are set to play their third match on straight third day in the tournament. Cantons started their title defending season with a stunning win over Gladiators, but in the second match they lost to Hung Hom Jaguars with disappointing bowling performances. Skipper Babar Hayat played a very important role with a bat and scored 89 runs off 52 balls against Jaguars. English all-rounder Samit Patel once again helped the team with his all-round performances. But Dwayne Smith’s poor form is the biggest worrying part for Cantons right now. Smith managed to score only 10 and 0 in those matches. We can expect him to find some form and play lot of big shots in this game. Waqas Khan who played a handy knock of 44 runs in the first game, may come with another good knock in this match. Ashar Zaidi had a bad day against Jaguars but he will come back strongly with both bat and bowl in this game. Samit Patel’s form is the key and he could continue to bat and bowl well. Wahab Riaz who picked 4 for 14 in the first game, managed to pick 1 for 18 in a second. At the moment he is the major key bowler of Cantons and his experiences will come into play in this crucial match. Among the local players, Simandeep and Shafique will keep their places in the XI. Ehsan Nawaz just bowled another expensive spell, that means he might make a way for Hassan Mohammad.

The runners-up of last season, City Kaitak started the season with a poor performances in the opening match of the season. But, they re-grouped quickly in the next game and won it by 26 runs. The openers Kyle Coetzer and Anshuman Rath failed to score runs in the first game, but both of them came back with superb opening stand in the next game. Rath managed to score 35 runs off 22 balls while the big hitter Coetzer scored mammoth century in the game against HK United. Most trustable Ravi Bopara had an average day in the first match, but came back strongly and scored an unbeaten 40 runs. The experienced bowlers skipper Emrit and Tanvir stood tall and picked many wickets as they could. Emrit picked 4 and Tanvir grabbed 2 wickets. The experienced Hong Kong player Aizaz Khan did a good job in both matches. If the top order fires up again, it would help Kaitak to score another big total. Local players Jamie Atkinson and Waqas Barkat had a very game against HK United other day. It will be a big chance for both of them and hopefully they will bat well in this game. Key bowler Samuel Badree didn’t perform as per expectations. He should bowl well and pick wickets in power-play overs and that’s not far away for him. The experiences of Sohail Tanvir and Rayad Emrit are a key factors and that would help Kaitak to succeed once again.
