Hong Kong T20

The T20 carnival of Hong Kong, HK T20 Blitz tournament hosts a double header on the third match day. In the first game of the day, Hung Hom Jaguars plays against Kowloon Cantons. Both Jaguars and Cantons has registered victories in their respective opening matches. As five overseas players are allowed to play, Jaguars playing with an experienced players such as Darren Sammy (captain), Johan Botha, Roelof van der Merwe, Ben Laughlin and Riki Wessels. Ben Laughlin who just played BBL final on Sunday, had played the game for Jaguars two days later and claimed 2 for 19 in 4 overs. Botha also picked 2 wickets in his spell while Van der Merwe remained wicket less. Both Botha and Merwe has played a handy cameos with a bat later in the day and assured an easy win for Jaguars. Darren Sammy handed over captaincy to Hong Kong player Kinchit Shah and played as the specialist batsman in the first game. Hong Kong players Kinchit and Nizakat Khan are the openers for Jaguars followed by wicket-keeper Riki Wessels. Tanveer Ahmed, Kyle Christie, Nadeem Ahmed and Ninad Shah were other local players took a part in the first game. As Hung Hom Jaguars won the first game comfortably, they would likely to go with an unchanged XI.

It’s going to be back-to-back matches for Kowloon Cantons. Babar Hayat led-side has played their first match on Wednesday afternoon and set to play next game on Thursday morning. The explosive Caribbean Dwayne Smith who just played plenty of firing knocks last season, is playing for Cantons. Samit Patel, Ashar Zaidi, Wahab Riaz and Paul van Meekeren are other overseas players who played in Wednesday’s clash. All these five overseas players will be a part of Cantons against Jaguars. Dwayne Smith didn’t fire his guns in the first game, but possibilities are high for him to go for big innings this time. All-rounder Samit Patel did his part well with both bat and bowl in the first game. He scored 41 quick runs and also picked a wicket in his 4 overs. Pakistani quickie Wahab Riaz was at his best and claimed 4 for 14 in 4 overs. Ashar Zaidi also sparkled with his spell of 2 for 15 in 3 overs. All these overseas players are expected to perform well in this game. Skipper Hayat departed for 17 runs but other local player Waqas Khan played a good knock of 44 runs. Rest other local players did not step up in the first game, hopefully they will use this opportunity to establish them well.

In the second match of day 3, Hong Kong Island United meets Galaxy Gladiators Lantau. Interestingly, both of these teams lost their respective opening game on Wednesday. Hong Kong United also uses five overseas players wisely with players such as Luke Ronchi, Kamran Akmal, Ryan ten Doeschate, David Wiese and Mohammad Irfan. Kamran and Ronchi opened the innings in the first game, but both of them dismissed for less than 20 runs respectively. Both are well experienced, especially we could expect a big knock from power-hitter Ronchi. Ryan ten Doeschate ruled the day for United with 3 wickets haul and a half-century with a bat. All rounder David Wiese had a very poor outing with both bat and ball. But he will get a second chance in this game and he will come back stronger with all-round efforts. Skipper Tanwir Afzal and Ahsan Abbasi are notable performers from local players. Afzal has an enough of experience and he will do well with both bat and ball. Wicket keeper Zeeshan Ali is the other important domestic in the lineup. As team didn’t win the first match, possibly there will be little shake up in the playing XI.

Former Sri Lankan Captain and the legend Kumar Sangakkara is the captain of Galaxy Gladiators and he also keep wickets too. Gladiators has well talented overseas players like Cameron Delport, Anton Devcich, Jade Dernbach and James Franklin. Some possible chances for recent sensation Jofra Archer to play this game. Delport shocked everyone when he dismissed for duck on Wednesday. But the big-hitter has an ability to come with strong reply and we might witness that in this game. Sangakkara struggles to score runs quickly in T20 format recent times, he should take the responsibilities and play big innings in this game. After performed so good in the Super Smash tournament, Anton Devcich plays for Gladiators and all-round performances are assured. Veteran James Franklin could be the one will make a way for Archer, if he is available to play. Among the domestic players, Munir Dar has played some decent innings of 28 runs in the first match. Arshad Mohammed and Imran Arif shared two scalps each but both bowlers were bowled bit expensive spells. Shahid Wasif and Amandeep has a point to prove with the bat.
