The magic of Pink jersey helped South Africa in a big way and with that win, home team keeps series alive as two matches to be played. South Africa somehow managed to win another match in the Pink ODI and kept the undefeated streak. There were no one sided match in Johannesburg and that recreates the ongoing series as an interesting one. Will India win and seal the series? Fifth ODI between South Africa vs India schedule to start at 1 PM Local | 4:30 PM IST on Tuesday, 13th February 2018.
SOUTH AFRICA :
The arrival of AB de Villers and the magic of Pink color boosted the host South Africa and they have registered their first win in the series in Johannesburg couple of days ago. Re-energized South Africa eye on second straight win and will approach the game with more confident. Continues threat of lightning and rain gone in South Africa and they utilized those breaks very well. First, bowlers controlled India innings for 289 for 7 in 50 overs and then batsmen chased down the revised target of 202 runs inside 26 overs. Still not all the lucks of South Africa’s way and they need to work hard to win this clash in Port Elizabeth. Finally, Hashim Amla faced Indian spin attack by survived for first 10 overs. He played a handy innings of 33 runs at top order but he yet to score a half-century in the series. The class batsman may overcome all hurdles and play big innings in this match. Skipper Aiden Markram had a good start second time in a row but unfortunately, he didn’t finish a job for the team. This time he dismissed for 22 runs, but the future of the team will play at least one big innings in remaining two matches.
Batting all-rounder JP Duminy had a good game in Cape Town last week and with that he batted at no. 3 once again. But he lost the wicket for 10 runs and also had an average bowling spell with his part-time off-spin. Duminy scored lot of runs in the domestic season and he is one of the in-form batsman at the moment. So, we can expect good come back performances from him on Tuesday. The returned back AB de Villiers shifted the chasing innings to top gear, later on Klaasen and Miller finished the job for South Africa. ABD scored only 26 runs in Johannesburg ODI but that quick knock helped the team in big way. He also saved so many runs for his team with quick fielding all through Indian innings. He is the top player in the team and he remains as a top pick for the fantasy players. David Miller who struggled a lot to score runs in first 3 matches, survived even after clean-bowled due to no-ball. He used that second life and smashed match winning 39 off 28 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. It was a much needed performances for him and that innings might help him to score more runs in this game.
New comer wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen played a heroic role in his very second ODI match and scored 43 runs in 27 balls. He won man of the match reward for his performance and he could do well again in this game. Andile Phehlukwayo not fulfilling 5th bowler role and goes expensive, but his very quick 5 balls 23 runs knock surprised everyone other night. He is a bowling all-rounder and he could play bigger role too. South Africa omitted Imran Tahir and played full of pace bowlers in Johannesburg. As they won the game with that combination, chances are high to go with same bowling attack. Rabada and Ngidi shared two wickets each while Morkel and Morris picked 1 each. Still it wasn’t a great show from them but with match-winners like Rabada and Morris South Africa will play with more confidence. Among four of them, Rabada and Morris could give you more points with their batting too.
Team India faced the first defeat in the ongoing series and heroes of first three matches, wrist spinners turned as villains in the last game. Except for second wicket partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli, nothing gone in India’s favor in Johannesburg. The poor form of Rohit Sharma, too much reliable on wrist spinners, collapses of middle-order and poor bowling form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar – all these combined and cost the match for the visitors. With that loss, India still need a victory to win the series. Rohit Sharma’s frustrating run in South Africa continued when he departed for 5 runs off 13 balls. Based on seniority and experience, he still has a chance to be in the XI on Tuesday, but if team management decides and take a brave decision Rohit will watch the game from dressing room. In that case, India would prefer to promote Ajinkya Rahane up in the order and open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. After put a match winning performance in the first match, Rahane has scored only 19 runs at no. 4 in the last 2 innings. He may play a good game at top of the order.
Shikhar Dhawan in his prime form at the moment and the Delhiitte scored hundred on his 100th ODI, last Saturday. His scores are 35, 51*, 76 and 109 runs respectively and we might witness another good performance from him this time in Port Elizabeth. Skipper Virat Kohli keeps the run-machine by scored another half-century in the last match. He has scored 393 runs in 4 innings with 2 centuries and 1 half-century. The man in form will be the biggest threat once again for the opponents and he is the biggest hope for Indian fans. If suppose Rahane move up to opening slot in place of Rohit, Shreyas Iyer who batted at no. 5 other day will move to no. 4 in the batting order. Shreyas Iyer started the innings in good note but he lost the wicket for 18 runs when he tried to exhilarate his innings at crucial stage of the innings. The young confident batsman, Shreyas will correct all his errors and will play a good knock this time. Either Kedar Jadhav or Dinesh Karthik will be in the XI, if Rohit Sharma left out. The most experienced MS Dhoni remained unbeaten to score 42 runs. It was a good innings from him, but he failed to take a team to 300+ total. He has an experience more than anyone in the team and he will come back more stronger in this game. Hardik Pandya’s horrific tour continued once again. After that massive 93 runs in the first innings of the first test, Pandya failed with a bat for 7 straight innings (test and ODI combined). He also bowls an expensive spell match after match but as he is the explosive player, team will keep him in the XI with a hope of good all round performance.
After shared 21 out of 27 wickets in first three matches, Indian wrist spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal had a bad day in Johannesburg. Kuldeep added two more wickets to his kitty while Chahal picked one wicket. But the problem was, both of them conceded too many runs in that game. Chahal gave away 68 runs in just 5.3 overs and his partner Kuldeep leaked 51 runs in 6 overs. Skipper trusted spinner too much in end overs and that backfired in the end. Both of them are talented bowlers and they could be back with a bang in this game. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah did his job well once again but his partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s poor form with a ball continued. Bumrah who picked 1 or 2 wickets in every match in the series, has a chance to pick 3 or more in this game. As Bhuvi bats well with useful cameos at no. 8, India will give him one more chance.
