After all hype and expectations players auction for the upcoming Indian Premier League – 2018 season was over, all eight franchises picked players they wanted and set to go for the brand new season. There were so much of exciting moments in the last two days during auctions and totally 187 players were traded in the event. Now, all eight teams squads are finalized and Season 11 kick starts in Mumbai on April 7.



Before the auction process, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained three of their players, they are captain MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. During the auction days, CSK used Right to Match (RTM) options to get back two of their old players and in total they have traded 22 players. South African captain Faf du Plessis and Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo returns to CSK with RTM option. Apart from them, there were some of notable picks in CSK camp and they picked overseas players like Shane Watson, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Sam Billings and Mitchell Santner. The experienced Indian internationals Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadhav and Ambati Rayudu will serve for CSK this year. Kedar Jadhav was the costliest pick of CSK during the Auctions and he sold for Rs. 7.80 Crores.

Bangalore based franchise retained three of their players before the Auction and used Right to Match options twice to get back two players during Auctions. The captain of the team, Indian captain Virat Kohli, Mr. 360 AB de Villiers and the young batsman Sarfaraz Khan who were those three retained by RCB. The leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and the bowing all-rounder Pawan Negi returns to RCB with RTM options. There were quite interesting picks from RCB, they have picked overseas players with well mixed of young and experienced. Brendon McCullum, Quinton de Kock, Chris Woakes, Tim Southee, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Colin de Grandhomme and Moeen Ali are in RCB bag and they will play for the franchise in this year IPL season. The notable picks from Indian players, Parthiv Patel, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Manan Vohra and Mandeep Singh. The pride of costliest pick goes to England All-rounder Chris Woakes who sold to RCB for Rs. 7.40 Crores.

Delhi Daredevils (DD), the team which never win the Title in 10 years of IPL history looking forward to the new season with fresh squad. This year, DD used their purse wisely and bagged so many good players to their squad under the guidance of new head coach Ricky Ponting. They were retained Indian young talents Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant along with South African all-rounder Chris Morris. During the auction, DD bought back Indian seamer Mohammad Shami and South African sensational Kagiso Rabada with RTM options. The power-hitters in current T20 cricket, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy and Colin Munro are in the house of DD. Gautam Gambhir who led KKR to title reigns twice in the past seasons, will play for Daredevils this year. New Zealand quickie Trent Boult and the 17 years old Sandeep Lamichhane from Nepal will serve for DD. Indian U19 players Prithvi Shaw, Abhishek Sharma and Manjot Kalra sold to DD along with Vijay Shankar and Amit Mishra. The costliest buy goes to Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.

No one enjoyed the auction more than Kings XI Punjab camp on those two days. They tried to grab almost every player, in the end settles with good pack of 21 players. KXIP used retaining options and retained only Axar Patel prior to the Auction. They have used RTM cards thrice to get back David Miller, Marcus Stoinis and Mohir Sharma. The Mohali based franchise were lucky to get the big-hitters Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle for the base price of Rs. 2 Crore each. They grabbed an overseas players like Aaron Finch, Andrew Tye, Afghan’s young star Mujeeb Zadran and Ben Dharshuis. The ace spinner of Indian team Ravichandran Ashwin sold to KXIP for Rs. 7.60 crores. They also bought a bunch of Indian players like Karun Nair, Lohesh Rahul, Barinder Sran, Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Tiwary. Indian opening batsman KL Rahul was the costliest pick in KXIP squad who sold for Rs. 11 Crores.

Kolkata Knight Riders used their purse completely in the Auctions and grabbed 19 players, which were lowest compare to all other 7 teams. Caribbean duo Sunil Narine and Andre Russell were retained by the franchise and during the auction they have used RTM and took back Robin Uthappa, Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav to their team. Australian quick Mitchell Starc and Chris Lynn are in KKR squad along with Mitchell Johnson. India U19 stars Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti will play for KKR on their debut IPL season. Mitchell Starc and Chris Lynn were the costliest buy and they sold for Rs. 9.40 and Rs. 9.60 Crores respectively.

The defending champions Mumbai Indians have retained three Indian internationals in their squad. They are captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Apart from them MI used RTM options to take Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard to back in their side. There were lot of exciting overseas picks in MI squad like Mustafizur Rahman, Jason Behrendorff, JP Duminy, Evin Lewis and Akila Dananjaya. Among Indian talents they have bought Ishan Kishan, Pradeep Sangwan, Suryakumar Yadav and Saurabh Tiwary. MI used RTM option to retain Krunal Pandya for Rs. 8.80 Crores and he was the costliest pick during the auction for MI.

The returning back after two years ban, Rajasthan Royals backs with bang as they done a good job in the auctions. Australian captain Steven Smith was the only one player who was retained by the franchise. RR used the trump card of RTM options twice and got back Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawal Kulkarni to their squad. The highest buys of the year Ben Stokes (Rs. 12.5 Crores) and Jaydev Unadkat (Rs. 11.5 Crores) are in the house of Royals. England power-hitting wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, new T20 sensation Jofra Archer, D’Arcy Short, Ben Laughlin, Zakir Khan (Afg) and Dushmantha Chameera all will serve for Rajasthan Royals in this IPL season. Rahul Tripathi, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Gopal and Mahipal Lomror are notable picks from Indian Players.

The champions of 2016 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad used their purse so well and traded 25 players for this upcoming season. SRH retained two players and they are captain David Warner and most wicket taker in the last last two seasons Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With RTM choice, SRH bringing back Shikhar Dhawan, Rashid Khan and Deepak Hooda to their squad. SRH also took back Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Siddharth Kaul and Chris Jordan to their Orange Army. No. 1 all-rounder in the world Shakib al Hasan, Carlos Brathwaite and Billy Stanlake are other overseas players in the list. Wriddhiman Saha, Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey, Sandeep Sharma and Basil Thampi are the notable picks from Indian talents.
