BAN Tri-Series

Bangladesh hosts the One-Day International Tri-Series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The home side Bangladesh dominated Zimbabwe in the 1st match and set to face Sri Lanka on Friday. While, the Asian team Sri Lanka faced a surprising defeat against Zimbabwe in their first match. Match 3 between Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka scheduled to start at 12 PM Local | 11:30 AM IST on Friday, 19th January 2018.

Bangladesh is the team which dominates at the home soil for years now, started this home series with a win against Zimbabwe. Bangladesh bowlers came so good in that game and restricted the opposition for 170 runs. Every bowler had bowled reasonably well, especially Shakib al Hasan had taken 3 wickets while Mustafizur and Rubel shared 2 wickets each. The most experienced opener Tamim Iqbal scored an unbeaten 84 runs which confirmed 8 wickets victory to the home side. After that good show Bangladesh ready to face second hurdle in the series when they meet Sri Lanka on Friday. All-around performances in the first game, may forces Bangladesh to go with an unchanged XI. Anamul Haque made his return to international cricket for the first time in almost 2 and half years and he scored 19 runs on his re-debut. He started off well with 4 boundaries in a short period but departed for 19 runs off 14 balls. Once Anamul sets in the middle, he will come with big scores, possibly that will happen on Friday. Tamim Iqbal had already started the home season with a big knock. He is a run machine at home, hopefully will play another good innings in this game.

For an experiment, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was promoted to no. 3 in the batting order and he will continue to bat at the same position throughout the series. The left-arm spin bowling of Shakib turns him to a match-winner and his all-round skills will give a lot of fantasy points. The other experienced player, wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim batted at no. 4 other day, chances are high for him to bat at the same position in this game too. He generally bats well at home, so expecting a good knock from him on Friday. Batting all-rounder Mahmudullah had not much of things to do in the first match. He didn’t get an opportunity to neither bowl or bat in that game. But he will make an impact in this game. Sabbir Rahman who used to bat at no. 3 for sometime, now moved back to middle-order. He struggled for a form during BPL, but he ended that T20 season with good form. That will help him to shine in this game. All-rounder Nasir Hossain plays a role of extra spin option along with batting at lower middle-order. He bowled a good 5 overs spell against Zimbabwe, he may come with a surprising spell in this game. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza leads the pace attack which includes Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain. All three of them has done a good job in that first game. Mustafizur and Rubel shared 2 wickets each while Mortaza settled with one wicket. These three men pace attack will play a crucial role in this game, especially the speedster Mustafizur will play an important role for Bangladesh. The left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam earned a place ahead of Mehidy Hasan. But as he did a good job other day, will keep his place in the XI.

After disappointing 2017, Sri Lanka started 2018 with a defeat against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. Zimbabwe shocked Sri Lanka with 12 runs victory, remember Zimbabwe won 5 match ODI series against Sri Lanka, last year. Angelo Mathews took over the captaincy from Thisara Perera and led the team in the first match. Omitting Danushka Gunathilaka and Niroshan Dickwella affected them later on the day and gifted them a loss. The hard-hitting Kusal Perera was back at opening position and he justified his selection with a scintillating knock of 80 off 83 balls. It was a good start for him on his re-birth in one-day internationals. Kusal will keep his place at top of the order and we could expect another firing innings from him. The experienced Upul Tharanga managed to score only 11 runs in the game against Zimbabwe. He has to score runs in this game or else people who are awaiting for a chance and warming a bench will take over Tharanga’s place. Kusal Mendis who was dropped from the squad for poor form, returned to the side but there were no improvement in his form. He walked back without scoring a run against Zimbabwe. That poor show questioning his place in the XI, possibly he will make a way for wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella who known for fearless batting at top order. Skipper Angelo Mathews who bowled well against India, didn’t bowl in the first game against Zimbabwe. He may concentrate only on batting in this game too. He scored a handy 42 runs in that match, but the team requires much more runs from their captain’s bat.

The experienced Dinesh Chandimal took care of wicket-keeper’s job against Zimbabwe. He managed to score a quick 34 runs, but failed to convert the good start in to match-winning performance. The all-rounder Asela Gunaratne started the new season with good bowling performances. He managed to score only 4 runs with a bat, but did a good job with a bowl. He claimed a three-wickets haul for 37 runs in 7 overs. He is well capable scoring big runs in the middle-order, expecting a good batting show from him on Friday. Former captain Thisara Perera finally shined with both bat and bowl. First he had taken 2 for 43 runs in his full quota of 10 overs. Later in the day, he fought so hard and took a team close to victory. In that amazing knock, Thisara had scored 64 runs off just 37 balls with 5 fours and 3 big sixes. Thisara who struggled for form with both bat and bowl, expecting to continue the momentum he got on other day. The average performance of Wanindu Hasaranga may opens the gate for Lakshan Sandakan. In case Sri Lanka decides to go with extra pace option, Nuwan Pradeep will come back in to the XI. The off-spinner Akila Dananjaya’s mystery spin didn’t workout well against Zimbabwe, but he deserves a second chance. Hopefully, will do well in this clash against Bangladesh. The experienced Suranga Lakmal bowled an expensive spell other day. Based on his experiences, he will keep the place in the XI and no wonder if he claims 3 or more wickets in this match. Dushmantha Chameera has a chance to lose his place to the newcomer Snehan Madushanka.
