Super Smash T20 tournament hosts a double-header, in the second clash of the day defending champions Wellington Firebirds meets Canterbury Kings at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Firebirds are at 4th spot in the points table with 8 points while Kings tops the table with 12 points at the moment. Match 15 between Wellington Firebirds vs Canterbury Kings schedule to start at 4 PM Local | 8:30 AM IST on Thursday, 28th December 2017.



After played half of group matches, the defending champions Wellington Firebirds hanging on at no. 4 in the points table with only win in 5 matches. Matches against Volts and Aces were abandoned due to rain, so Firebirds has 8 points at the moment. Firebirds started the title defending season with an impressive 32 runs victory over Knights. But after that they had faced narrow 1 run loss to Knights and also lost by 2 wickets in the match against Aces. Firebirds named 13-man squad for the clash against Kings on Thursday. The arrival of Luke Ronchi created an immediate effect in the team when he smashed 102 runs off 46 balls against Aces. Ronchi is in tremendous form for last few months and he carried that in the last game too. No wonder if he play another stunning knock in this game in Wellington. He will open the innings with his captain Hamish Marshall. The experienced Marshall has scored 48, 11 and 16 runs respectively in the season. He used to score runs quickly, hopefully will come a memorable innings on Thursday. On the arrival of Ronchi, Devon Conway moved down to middle-order in the last game. Conway has played a good knock of 53 off 36 balls against Knights and also scored 19 off 11 against Aces. He is expected to score some quick runs in the end overs for Firebirds.

The wicket-keeper Tom Blundell is yet to play a big innings in this year Super Smash. Most probably the talented top order player will come with a good knock in this game. England’s Samit Patel plays a crucial role for Firebirds this year. He scores very useful runs at no. 4 and also pick wickets with his left-arm spin. His scores were 31, 2 and 24 runs respectively and with a bowl he claimed a tally of 5 wickets in 3 innings. Middle-order batsmen Michael Bracewell was very impressive in the first game where he smashed an unbeaten 56 runs in 28 balls. But in next 2 innings, he managed to score only 17 and 3 runs respectively. Bracewell has a good opportunity to score runs in this game, once he get going, he will surprise you with lot of fantasy points. After missed out in last two matches squads, Matt Taylor makes his return to the squad for this clash. Matt Taylor is lower middle-order hard-hitting batsman. He will replaces Iain McPeake in the XI and we can expect a quick cameo from him on Thursday.

The all-rounder Luke Woodcock had a back-to-back good games in last week. First he scored a crucial 39 off 28 balls against Knights and also bowled an economical 3 overs spell in that game. In the next game, he has taken 2 for 12 in 2 overs against Aces and he also finished the innings with 12* off 6 balls. His cameo in lower middle-order and also with bowl in power-play overs are very crucial for Firebirds. Anurag Verma started the season with 3 for 37 against Knights. He again bowled well in the second meet-up against Knights and picked 1 for 21. But in the last completed game against Aces, Verma bowled an expensive spell and conceded 46 runs in 3 overs and claimed 2 wickets. The most experienced bowler in the side, the off-spinner Jeetan Patel has a role to play in this home game. He is a key bowler who claims wickets with an economical spells. Ollie Newton was expensive in his spell of 1 for 41 in the last game, but he will retains his place in the XI.



The current leader in the points table, Canterbury Kings has registered 3 wins in first 4 matches of the season. The international star All-rounder Ben Stokes is not available for the second game in a row for Kings. Stokes not named in the 12-man squad for this game. Canterbury Kings has started the season with a jaw dropping 134 runs victory against Otago Volts. In the next game, Kings came 8 runs short in the high-scoring game against Stags. But they were re-grouped well and won next two matches comfortably. The experienced Michael Pollard opens the innings for Kings along with Nick Kwant. Pollard is yet to score his first half-century of the season. He used to start well in every match but failed in converting to big scores. Hopefully, he will come with a good knock of 50+ in this match. Nick Kwant was an ultimate failure in first three innings where he dismissed for 9, 0 and 3 runs respectively. But he bounced back well and scored much needed 48 off 35 balls in the last game. Unfortunately, Kwant wasn’t named in the squad for this game. South Africa born Chad Bowes smashed 82 off 55 balls in the game against Stags on last Friday. He didn’t score much in the other 3 matches. He could be come with an impressive performances on Thursday, so allot a place for him in your fantasy teams.

Kings warmly welcomes Black Caps players Henry Nicholls and Todd Astle to the squad. As no Kwant in the squad, Leo Carter may move to opening position and Nicholls will take 4th spot in the order. The 23-years old Leo yet to prove his talents in T20 cricket. This could be his right opportunity to showcase his talents if he gets a place in XI. Henry Nicholls arrives with a stunning international form behind him. He is one of the in-form batsman of New Zealand team in last few months. He has a big role to play in this T20 contest on Thursday. The all-rounder Todd Astle returns to the squad after concludes national duties. He has claimed 3 for 18 in Kings first match of the season, he is expected to play a big part in Kings bowling unit in this game. Cole McConchie has played 2 good knocks in 4 innings. First he scored 54 runs off 37 balls against Stags and then played a handy knock of 31 not out against Volts in the last game. He also impressive with a ball and picked 5 wickets in 4 matches. He used to bowl well controlled spells with his part-time off-spin.

The wicket-keeper Cam Fletcher plays an important role in the middle-order for Kings. In last three innings, Fletcher has scored 74* (39), 43* (23) and 31* (20) runs respectively. He is the key player and has a chance to play another good knock in this game. Captain Andrew Ellis stuns the opposition with his bowling spells. He has a tally of 9 wickets in just 4 innings. In the last game, he has picked his 3 five wicket haul in T20 cricket. He deserves a place in all your Fantasy teams. Tim Johnston didn’t get much of opportunities to bat but he did a good job with a ball. He bowls a decent spells with 1 or 2 wickets per match. Ed Nuttall will lead the pace attack for Kings. Nuttall has a wicket in 2 innings so far, hopefully will claim at least 2 wickets in this game. Jeremy Benton who claimed 3 for 27 against Stags few days ago, expected to keep the place in the XI after his poor spell in the last game. If Kings decides to keep Leo Carter in the XI, then Will Williams will misses out. Otherwise Will Williams will keep his place in the XI.
