NZ Super Smash

New Zealand’s own T20 league Super Smash T20 resumes after Christmas break with the match between Northern Knights vs Central Stags in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday. Northern Knights who are at second in the points table faces the team 5th in the table Central Stags in this clash. Match 13 scheduled to start at 7:10 PM Local | 11:40 AM IST on Wednesday, 27th December 2017.

The hat-trick of victories in past 3 matches put Knights on the driver-seat at the moment. They have started the season with a heavy loss to Firebirds, but they had bounce-back very quickly and won next 3 matches in a row. Knights has made one change to their 12-man squad by bring in Joe Walker for Ish Sodhi. The leg-spinner left for National duties and he will play for Black Caps in the T20I series against West Indies. The all-around efforts of Anton Devcich and Daryl Mitchell helped the team to register a huge 106 runs victory against Otago Volts in the last match on Saturday. The openers Seifert and Devcich added very quick 61 runs for the first wicket. The all-rounder Anton Devcich who struggled for form in the first 3 matches, finally found the form he needed and smashed 42 off 21 balls with a bat and also claimed 4 wickets haul in his 3 overs spell. As he is back in form, he could play a key role once again for Knights and he deserves a place in your fantasy lineups. The wickets keeper Tim Seifert who scored a century against Aces a week ago, used to offer good start for Knights. In fact he failed to convert the good start to big scores in last 2 games, but he has a chance to play one more memorable knock in this game on Wednesday. Brett Hampton was promoted to no. 3 for a second time in 3 matches and he utilizes the chance with a quick-fire innings of 44 runs off just 20 balls. He really hits hard and he could possibly play an explosive innings again in this game.

Captain Dean Brownlie’s poor run with a bat continues, he yet to score a half-century in the season. He managed to score only 71 runs in 4 innings till now. It was a good day for the senior player Daniel Flynn who found back his form finally on Saturday. After three consecutive poor knocks, Flynn came with a much needed 47 off 26 balls in the last game and that was a good sign for Knights. He may go back to single digit score again, but at the same time chances are high for him to play a good knock as well. The young all-rounder Daryl Mitchell continue to play a good hand for Knights this season. He has scored 112 runs in 4 innings and also picked 4 wickets. In the last match, Mitchell has scored 41 runs off 24 balls with a four and 3 sixes and he also claimed 3 for 22 in just 3 overs. He is a key player for the team. Middle-order batsman Nick Kelly’s poor form continues as he scored only 20 runs in 4 innings. If the team management takes a brave decision, then Kelly could be a man who warms the bench for this game. But chances are very less for that to happen. England’s bowling all-rounder Chris Jordan is playing for Knigths and he has already shown an impressive performances in the last game. He picked 2 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs spell against Volts. Jordan has named in 12-man squad for Wednesday game and he will play a crucial role in this game. The long batting line-up of Knights has Peter Bocock at no. 9 in the order. He will add some quick runs at lower order. On the absence of Ish Sodhi, either Brett Randell or Joe Walker would appear in this game on Wednesday. Both of them has a chance to get a game too, if out-of-form Nick Kelly has been dropped from the XI. Brent Arnel is the most experienced bowler in the unit. The 38-years old has a big role to play in this match and we could expect minimum of 2 wickets from his spell.

Central Stags lost two of their first three matches of the ongoing season and sits at 5th place with 4 points. This is going to be a crucial game for Stags on Wednesday. The weakness of the team is their bowling attack. Batsmen used to put up strong totals in recent matches, but failures of bowlers cost them those matches. There will be a big challenge ahead for Stags bowlers when are they facing strong batting unit of Knights in this clash. After dropped for the last game, the in-form opener Jesse Ryder is back and available for this game. His current form will be a key for the team. Dane Cleaver is expected to open the innings along with Jesse Ryder after scored 30 off 21 balls in the last game. Ben Smith who struggled to score runs at top of the order may move down in the order. Skipper Will Young played a good knock of 53 in 31 balls against Canterbury last week. He needs to play that similar knock in this game to ensure a win for his side. As Tom Bruce joins Black Caps for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies, he is not available for this game.

The 20-years old Josh Clarkson bats in the middle-order and he is yet to play a big innings in the season. He scored 28 off 15 balls against Kings, if he play that kind of handy innings in the end overs on Wednesday, he will give you a valid fantasy points. The inexperienced middle-order gives a worry to the team. The 20-years old Christian Leopard made his T20 debut in the last game and he scored 20 off 18 balls on a debut. If the middle-order batsman plays a good innings in this game, he may cements his place in the XI. The experienced Ben Wheeler struggle to bowl well and he conceded too many runs in past two games. He should bowl well by using all his experiences to secure some wickets for himself and a victory for the team. Bevan Small also bowled expensive spells in last two matches but he is expected to bowl better in this game against Knights. Ryan McCone has played his first game of the season in the last game and picked 1 for 28 in 3 overs spell. He used to bowl very costly spells last year, so not much of hope on him at this time around. The left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel is expected to play a key role with a ball for Stags. He yet to start his wicket count in the season, hopefully, he will start the count with at least 2 wickets with this game. Blair Tickner is the pick of the bowler in this bowling attack who claimed 2 wickets haul thrice in a row. He used to bowl bit of expensive spells but he guarentees minimum of 2 wickets per match. Navin Patel most probably remains in a bench once again.
