On other hand, the visitors in hurry to re-group quickly to avoid another test series loss in Indian soil. Third test between India vs Sri Lanka scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM Local | 4 AM GMT on Saturday, 2nd December 2017.

INDIA :

With that an innings and 239 runs victory in Nagpur, Team India looks dominating ahead of the next test in Delhi. Shikhar Dhawan who had released from the squad for second test joined the team and ready to play at his home ground. Not only for Dhawan, it’s a home match for captain Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma as well. As Dhawan is back in the squad, he will create an argument for the opening slot. In the first test, Dhawan and KL Rahul provided a solid opening stand in the second innings and scored 94 and 79 runs respectively. Murali Vijay sparkled with an amazing century in Nagpur, but KL Rahul failed with just 7 runs. So, possibilities are high for Dhawan to replace Rahul and open the innings with Vijay in Delhi. Captain Virat Kohli walked back to pavilion for 0 runs in the first innings of the first test. Since that, he scored an unbeaten 104 in the second innings of that same test match and converted a century to double-century in Nagpur. His current form would definitely scare the opposition and expecting another trademark performances from him, especially when he plays in front of his home crowd in Delhi. The vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane’s poor run is the biggest worry for the team in middle-order. Rahane managed to score only 6 runs in 3 innings in the series so far. There are thin chances for him to make a way for the newcomer Vijay Shankar in this game.

The promising test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara continued his good form in the last test with a marathon knock of 143 runs off 362 balls. Now, Pujara is at second position in the ICC test batsman rankings with 888 points which will boost him to perform further more. Middle-order batsman in tests, Rohit Sharma finally got an opportunity to play a test almost after 500 days and he made a mark with a blistering century in Nagpur. That innings will help him to keep the place in the XI and we can expect another good show from him in Delhi test. After remained wicket-less in Kolkata, the spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja came back with a strong replies in Nagpur. Ashwin claimed 4 wickets in each innings while Jadeja shined with a tally of 5 wickets. With the last wicket of the match, Ashwin joined a club of 300 test wickets and he made it in very quick time than others. Wriddhiman Saha will keep the wickets behind the stumps and some chances for him to shine with the bat too. Mohammad Shami was dropped due to an injury at the last moment of Nagpur test and Ishant Sharma replaced him in the XI. As Ishant Sharma did a good job with 3 wickets in the first innings and 2 in a second, he has chance to play in front of home Delhi crowd. If Shami is back to the team, then he might replaces Umesh Yadav who claimed only 2 wickets in Nagpur.

SRI LANKA :

Under the overcast conditions Sri Lankan bowlers done a very good job in the first innings of first test. Other than that there were no positive memories for the visitors in the first two tests. The experienced veteran spinner Rangana Herath has been ruled out for Delhi test due to back problems and that could be further set back for Sri Lanka. The leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay added to the squad as a replacement for Herath. Based on the recent news, Lahiru Thirimanne might be dropped for Delhi test due to his poor batting in Nagpur. Sri Lanka opened an innings with Dimuth Karunaratne and the newcomer Sadeera Samarawickrama in those first two tests. The pair has a chance to open the innings in this test too. Samarawickrama has scored only 36 runs in 4 innings which includes two duck outs in second innings of both test matches. In case the management decides to make a change in opening combination, then Roshen Silva would replaces Samarawickrama. Karunaratne managed to score only 8 and 1 runs respectively but he came with some better improvement in Nagpur with scores of 51 and 18 respectively. If they decides to drop Thirimanne then Dhananjaya de Silva will make his first appearance of the tour in Delhi. It’s quite a long time for Dhananjaya to play a test for Sri Lanka, he played his last test almost an year ago. But his impressive performances for Sri Lanka ‘A’ might bring him to the XI on Saturday. The former captain Angelo Mathews plays a role of specialist batsman in the series and he scored only 12, 10 and 10 runs after his half-century in the first innings of Kolkata test.

Captain Dinesh Chandimal has a huge amount of responsibilities on his shoulders after that monstrous defeat in the last match. Chandimal scored half-centuries in each innings of Nagpur test, but he should convert those fifties to big centuries. Wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella was the only in-form batsman at start of the tour, but he managed to score 90 runs only in 4 innings so far. He may come with fifty or more in both innings of this Delhi test and he could be better wicket keeper option for Fantasy players. After picked 5 wickets in the first test, all-rounder Dasun Shanaka had a tough outing with a ball in Nagpur. He picked 1 for 103 runs and scored 2 and 17 runs respectively. As Delhi tracks always has something for medium-pace bowlers, Shanaka may be back with wickets in this game. Bowling all-rounder Dilruwan Perera conceded over 200 runs to pick 3 wickets in Nagpur test. Then he contributed only 2 runs with a bat. Dilruwan is one of the regular member of Sri Lanka test side and the team has lot of confident on him. On the absence of Rangana Herath there would be a debate between Lakshan Sandakan and Jeffrey Vandersay. Sandakan featured in 7 tests for Lanka and he claimed 20 wickets as well. On other side, Vandersay has played 11 ODIs and 7 T20I for Sri Lanka but he yet to make a debut in test format. Suranga Lakmal had an amazing time in Kolkata test by picking 7 wickets. But he remained wicket-less in Nagpur test and struggled a lot to bowl in correct pace and rhythm. Some sort of chances for Lakmal to regain his form back in this test. Lahiru Gamage has 50/50 chances to play in Delhi, if he dropped then Viswa Fernando will replace him.
