Tom Curran replaces Steven Finn in England Squad!

England and the Wales Cricket Board has announced a replacement player for injured Steven Finn. The 22-year old fast bowler from Surrey, Tom Curran has been named as Finn’s replacement in the Ashes squad. Steven Finn has been ruled out early on Tuesday with a knee injury.

Tom Curran has yet to play a test cricket but made his debut for England in both limited-overs formats ODI and T20I cricket. The selectors were impressed with his pace and aggressiveness. He played debut ODI match against West Indies and claimed a wicket of Chris Gayle as his maiden ODI wicket. In T20Is, made his debut against South Africa in June and picked 5 wickets in 2 matches.

In his first-class career, Tom Curran was impressive with 171 wickets in 51 matches. Curran, who was due to be part of the Lions squad for their Australian training camp, swings the ball away from the right-handers, can also bat – he averages 17 in first-class cricket – and is a good, athletic fielder.

Curran has been selected as a replacement for Finn ahead of candidates Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood and Tom Helm. He will fly to Australia on Wednesday and possibly will get a place in the last practice match ahead of the first Ashes test. He will join Craig Overton and Jake Ball as the three bowlers competing to be England’s fourth seamer for the Test series.

Earlier, Tom Curran has signed the contract with the BBL franchise Hobart Hurricanes. But as he going to represent England in the famous Ashes Test series, he will not feature in this year Big Bash League and his participation will now have to be canceled.
