South Africa T20 Challenge – All Teams Squad List!

A replacement for recently cancelled T20 Global League, domestic special Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge will kick start on 10th of November 2017. The famous domestic franchises T20 tournament was originally scheduled for the period of March-April 2018, but due to the postponement of T20 Global League, Cricket South Africa rescheduled their plans for this summer and bringing CSA T20 Challenge to fulfill November and December column on their cricket calendar.

The tournament which known as Ramslam T20 until 2015, turned into CSA T20 Challenge after the title sponsor RAM withdrew their sponsorship, last year. Six franchises are participating in the tournament and the major talking point will be the availability of national contracted players. As T20 Global League is not happening and no other international matches for these 2 months time, all national contracted players are set to be a part of this T20 tournament.

The off-spinner Dane Piedt is the captain of Cape Cobras this year and he will lead the team which has players like Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Wayne Parnell, Richard Levi and Vernon Philander. Well experienced players in South Africa domestic cricket Justin Ontong, Andrew Puttick, Qaasim Adams, Stiaan van Zyl, Jason Smith, George Linde and Aviwe Mgijima are available to serve for Cape Cobras along with young talents Tshepo Moreki, Zubayr Hamza, Dayyan Galiem and Simon Khomari. Cobras managed to win only 3 out of 10 league matches last year and finished at 4th in the points table. Now it’s a new season and bright chances for Cobras to win the title.

As the fresh season begins, skipper Khaya Zondo and his men would look to turnaround things on their favor with a consistent performances. Number 1 leg-spinner in the world Imran Tahir will play for Dolphins along with his proteas teammates Andile Phehlukwayo and Keshav Maharaj. Recently debuted in the International T20 game, all-rounder Robert Frylinck is playing for Dolphins several years and will continue the same this year as well. The 25-years old middle-order batsman who made his test and T20I debuts for South Africa earlier this year, Theunis de Bruyn has named as a captain of VKB Knights team. He has an amount of responsibilities on his shoulders especially after finished at bottom of the table last year, franchise looks for a big turnaround under his captaincy. David Miller is the most famous South Africa major team player in Knights squad. Rilee Rossouw who thrown out South Africa contract for Kolpak deal last year, will play for Knights in this tournament. The experienced all rounder Werner Coetsee, Wicket keeper Rudi Second, Patrick Kruger, Eddie Leie, Duanne Olivier, Marchant de Lange and Pite van Biljon are other key players in VKB Knights squad.

Highveld Lions finished at no 3 in the points table with 5 wins in 10 matches last year and they failed to reach the final as they lost in the Qualifier to Warriors. South Africa’s test opener Stephen Cook will lead Lions squad in this year T20 Challenge tournament and he has a well mixed of young and experienced players in the squad. South Africa’s best pace bowler at the moment Kagiso Rabada will play for Lions along with his national squad teammates Dwaine Pretorius and Aaron Phangiso. The experienced T20 players Rassie van der Dussen, Reeza Hendricks, Mangaliso Mosehle and Hardus Viljoen are all available and will serve for Lions this year. Young players Wiaan Mulder, Wihan Lubbe, Carmi le Roux and Yaseen Valli will get opportunities to prove their talents when they play for Lions in the tournament.

The defending champions and the most consistent team in the competition Multiply Titans will play under the captaincy of young batsman Aiden Markram. He just made his international debuts in both tests and ODI formats against Bangladesh recently, have huge responsibility on his shoulders and he will be privilege to lead South Africa’s premium players in the tournament. Titans has 8 national contracted players in the squad, names like AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar, Chris Morris, Farhaan Behardien and Morne Morkel are in the squad of Titans. South African captain Faf du Plessis availability under doubts as he sidelined with an injury for at least 6 weeks. Apart from stardust national players, Titans also has a talents like Henry Davids, Heino Kuhn, Albie Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, David Wiese, Jonathan Vandiar and captain Aiden Markram.

The runner-up of last year Warriors are all set to play in the tournament with the leadership of Jon-Jon Smuts. Several familiar names are in the squad of Warriors like Kyle Abbott, Colin Ingram, JJ Smuts and Simon Harmer. Smuts was played in T20Is for South Africa and the all-rounder led the team to final last year. Kyle Abbott broke his contract with CSA and signed Kolpak deal earlier this year. He will be available for Warriors in the competition. Colin Ackermann, Yaseen Vallie, Andrew Birch, BD Walters, Michael Price and Sisanda Magala has played a big part in Warriors success in past season and they will continue to give their best in this year tournament too.
