Theunis de Bruyn’s VKB Knights hosts Aaron Phangiso led Bizhub Highvel Lions in one of triple-header on Friday night. Both Knights and Lions are settled with 10 points at the moment, by the way Lions are ahead of Knights in the points table with better net run rate. The team which wins will move ahead in the points table. Match 19 between Knights vs Lions scheduled to begin at 6 PM Local | 9:30 PM IST on Friday, 1st December 2017.

Two wins, two losses and one no result, made Knights to be at second bottom of the table. Knights defeated Warriors in both occasions but lost to Titans and Cape Cobras respectively. Knights has announced their 13-man squad for the home game against Lions on Friday. Wicket keeper Rudi Second is back into the squad for the first time this season and Duanne Olivier back in the squad after dropped for the last game. Leus du Plooy and Pite van Biljon were the players who omitted in the squad. All rounder Patrick Kruger failed as an opener and Grant Mokoena requires good opening partner at top of the order. Rudi Second will fill that place and his experiences will come into play. Mokoena also not in good shape and wastes lot of deliveries in power-play overs. But Knights has no other options, so they will continue to play with him at top of the order. Captain Theunis de Bruyn and David Miller will bat once again at no. 3 and 4 respectively. They are the pillars of Knights batting order. Theunis de Bruyn scored 78*, 22, 22 and 40 runs respectively in four innings this season while the T20 specialist David Miller scored 62*, 8, 48 and 50 runs respectively. The notable thing is Miller played two good knocks in a row and that proves his current form.

It seems Knights will drop Patrick Kruger at some stage of the tournament. He scored only 33 runs in 4 innings in the season. If Kruger rested for this game, Aubrey Swanepoel will be back in the XI. If Kruger plays also Swanepoel has a bright chance to be back in the XI by replacing Keegan Petersen. Finally, the all-rounder Ryan McLaren exploded with consecutive knocks over the weekend. He scored 31 and 31 runs respectively at an impressive strike-rate. His woes with a bowl continues anyway, but he has ability to sort it out soon. Eddie Leie and Aubrey Swanepoel would be the first choice spin options for Knights. Keeps an eye on Eddie Leie who always does a good job at home matches. Mbulelo Budaza emerged himself well in the side by bowling decent spells in last few matches. He claimed a tally of 3 wickets in last two games. Marchant de Lange and Shadley van Schalkwyk are Knights two front-line bowlers. Both of them went bit expensive in last two matches, hopefully, we can witness some good show from them – especially from Shadley van Schalkwyk.

Lions are presently placed fifth with two wins, three loses and one washout from six games. As only four leagues are left, Lions needs to approach every game as a must-win game and requires at least of 3 wins in four matches to secure a place in semi-finals. Lions generally don’t reveal their 14-man squad prior to the match. As Lions lost two matches in a row before that washed out game against Titans on Wednesday, we can expect some changes in their playing XI on Friday night. Lions top order looks very strong with their in-from openers Rassie van der dussen and Reeza Hendricks. The experienced Rassie van der Dussen contributed with the scores of 57, 51 and 45 runs in last 3 innings respectively. On other side, Reeza Hendricks is in dream form and he tops the leader board of most runs scorer at the moment with 308 runs in 5 innings. The 28-years old smashed 67*, 42, 102*, 27 and 81 runs respectively in 5 innings. These two are very important batters of Lions at the moment, if they gets one more good start that will help the side in a big way. The new comer Ryan Rickelton made a name with 41 off 23 balls on his Ramslam debut other day. He could possibly impress with one more good innings in the competition. Lions uses Omphile Ramela in middle-order but in the last game against Warriors, there was no requirement for Ramela’s batting.

Wicket-keeper Mangaliso Mosehle has played his 100th T20 game on Sunday. He scored one half-century in the tournament so far, chances for some good show from him against Knights. The experienced all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius was dropped for the game against Warriors, after he shown very average performances in previous matches. The bowling all-rounder might be back in the XI for this crucial game. Marques Ackermann replaced Nicky van der Bergh in the last game and he is expected to continue in the XI for this game as well. The 19-years old all-rounder Willem Mulder bowled well in first 4 matches, but he went for 0/39 in 3 overs against Warriors. Still he is expected to keep his place safe in the XI and chances are high for him to come back with 2 or more wickets in this game. The leader of the bowling attack Kagiso Rabada will play the mighty role in this clash on Friday night. He claimed 8 wickets in 5 matches and as we all know Rabada can go deep inside Knights batting order, no wonder if he take 4 or 5 wickets haul. Bjorn Fortuin is expected to replace Beuran Hendricks. Captain Aaron Phangiso has a key role to play with his left-arm spin in this game. He has 5 wickets in a kitty after played first 5 matches and used to bowl economical spells quite often for the team. Hardus Viljoen is other notable bowler in Lions squad. He claimed 4 wickets in 4 matches this season, hopes for 2 or more wickets from him against Knights game.
