RAM SLAM T20 – MATCH 16 – CAPE COBRAS VS WARRIORS – FANTASY PREVIEW

South Africa’s own domestic T20 League, Ram Slam T20 Challenge hosted first half of the season successfully. On Wednesday, it begins the second half with two matches. In the first match of the evening, teams at bottom of the table Cape Cobras and Warriors meets in a crucial clash. Match 16 between Cape Cobras vs Warriors scheduled to begin at 6 PM Local | 9:30 PM IST on Wednesday, 29th November 2017.

CAPE COBRAS :

Jean-Paul Duminy led Cape Cobras started the season with a hat-trick of losses but they had turn things quickly and won back-to-back matches on last weekend. Cape Cobras yet to announce their squad for this clash against Warriors on Wednesday. But after those two consecutive victories, we expects Cobras to go with an unchanged side for this game in Paarl. The power-hitter Richard Levi’s form is the biggest worrying thing for Cobras at the moment. He didn’t play single good innings in 4 matches. He dismissed for 8 and 3 runs in last two innings. He is expected to get other chance based on his experiences on Wednesday. The classy opener Hashim Amla always starts well for Cobras this season, but he was not able to convert it to triple-digit score. He came with two centuries in the IPL earlier this year, hopefully, he could do that in Ram Slam too. Just like Levi, young Temba Bavuma also struggles to score runs for Cobras. He failed with single-digit scores of 2 and 6 respectively in the last two games. Captain JP Duminy led the team from the front with back-to-back man of the match performances. He is in brilliant form at the moment with scores of 54 and 67 runs respectively. He also bowled useful spells in those matches. Young Ferisco Adams plays some big role for Cobras side in recent matches. He yet to play big innings in middle-order, but with a bowl he shined in both matches. He may play crucial role in this game for Cobras.

The experienced Vernon Philander finally got back his rhythm with a bowl. Still he needs to bowl well economical spells in the tournament, but bowled decently well in last two games. He also did a good job by scoring 16 off 7 balls and 22 off 11 balls in last two games. Kyle Verreynne is the wicket-keeper of Cobras, unfortunately he didn’t get an opportunity to bat in both matches. He was in good form in recent first-class matches, hopes he will get a batting chance in this game. The left-arm spinner George Linde came with a good spell against Lions and picked 2 for 26 in 4 overs then against Knights, he bowled none for 26 in his only over. He may come back with an impressive performance in this game. The veteran Rory Kleinveldt was at his best in the last two matches over the weekend. He claimed a tally of 5 wickets in those two games and conceded only 35 runs in combined 7 overs. Chances are high for him to play another big role against Warriors. Mthiwekhaya Nabe bowls decently well and he will keep the place in the XI.

WARRIORS :

Finally Warriors tasted a first success in the season when they defeated Lions on Sunday. Finalists last season, Warriors lost the first two games, had a washout in Durban and then suffered another loss at the hands of Knights last Friday meaning they were winless after four. But a splendid win over the Lions on Sunday, when they comfortably chased 183, might be the tonic they need. The experiences of Coin Ingram played a big role in that victory over Lions. Till lot many problems are in Warriors squad which they need to correct quickly. Captain JJ Smuts led the side to final with his all-around performances last year. But he struggles with both bat and bowl in the ongoing season. He scored only 71 runs in 4 innings and claimed a tally of 3 wickets in 4 outings. This will be a crucial game for Smuts, expecting him to bring his A-game on Wednesday night. Warriors stuck with wicket-keeper Gihahn Cloete at the opening spot. He scored 19 and 32 runs respectively in first two innings, but managed to score only 5 and 1 in last two matches. Some sort of chances for him to move down to middle-order and that case, Colin Ackermann may open the innings along with JJ Smuts. Colin Ackermann scored 74 off 51 against Knights on last Friday. He also impressed with some good spells already in the season. He is a key player who could change the game with his all-round efforts.

After continuous failures in first three innings, Colin Ingram came with 89 off 48 balls with 5 fours and 7 huge sixes and took the team home safely. Ingram was struggling for form, he got that in the last game. Now, expecting him to come with another good show on Wednesday. After scored a half-century in the season opener Christian Jonker played a good knock in the last game on Sunday. He scored a handy 39 off 28 balls in that game. In middle-order Jerry Nqolo contributes with some quick runs in the end overs. He may not play a huge part in this game but will play a decent role. Lesiba Ngoepe and Solo Nqweni occupied Warriors lower middle-order in last few games. They might get one more opportunity at those same positions against Cobras. Andrew Birch is the most valuable bowler in Warriors squad. But the sad thing is Birch yet to bring his A-game with a bowl. He bowls some good spells but he could do better than that. Expecting 2 or more wickets from Birch in this game. Sisanda Magala was pretty impressive with his spell of 1 for 29 against Knights, but he went expensive in the very next game and finished with none for 34 in 3 overs. Basheeru-Deen Walters bowled one good spell against Titans in the early part of the tournament. Since that he bowls expensive spells for Warriors. But based on the experience Walters will keep his place in the XI. We will come with an updates once the squad revealed officially.
