Rain spoiled the sport on eighth match day of Bangladesh Premier League – Season 5 on Wednesday. As rain is still forecast for this Friday, once again a double-header will takes place under the threat of rain. Sylhet Sixers who sits at a second spot with 7 points takes on bottom of the points table Rajshahi Kings in the afternoon fixture of the day. Match 17 between Rajshahi Kings vs Sylhet Sixers scheduled to start at 2 PM Local | 1:30 PM IST on Friday, 17th November 2017.

With just one win in 4 matches, runners-up of last year Rajshahi Kings sits in the bottom of the table at this point of the tournament. As they have 8 more league matches to play Rajshahi Kings desperately looks to be back in the winning ways. After lost to Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Sixers, Kings registered their first win against Riders last weekend. Then again faced a loss and this time it came against Comilla Victorians on Sunday. Captain Darren Sammy didn’t play last two matches due to injury. Mushfiqur Rahim led the team on the absence of Sammy. The experienced Sammy might be back and take a responsibility of a captaincy again ahead of this crucial match. Kings has been dropped Luke Wright and Samit Patel for Lendl Simmons and Malcolm Waller. Simmons justified his selection by scoring 53 and 40 runs respectively. But unfortunately Simmons was stretchered out in the last match, that means he mostly misses out in this game. That case Luke Wright will be back to the opening position where he scored 11 and 56 runs respectively in first two encounters.

After two impressive knocks Mominul Haque dismissed for only 2 runs off 7 balls in the last game. Mominul’s 63 off 44 against Riders was the key points for Kings to win that game. If he is back with a good knock again chances are high for Kings to taste their second success. Malcolm Waller – the batsman from Zimbabwe was in very good form for past few months. But he failed in both matches and scored only 5 runs in 2 innings. His poor performances may opens the gate for all-rounder Samit Patel. T20 specialist Samit Patel failed with both bat and bowl in the first two matches. He may offer better all-round performances in his second chance. Bangladeshi batsman Rony Talukdar started the season with an impressive half-century. But he dismissed for duck twice since that. As Kings not having much of local players option, Talukdar is expected to keep his place safe for this game. The test captain of Bangladesh Mushfiqur Rahim is the most experienced domestic player in the squad but he managed to score only 38 runs in 3 innings. He is the game changer and hopes for some match winning performances from him on Friday.

All-rounder from New Zealand James Franklin played back-to-back handy knocks in first two matches and also impressed with his bowling performances. He deserves a place in the XI based on experiences and also with the current form he is in. In case Darren Sammy declares fit and available for this game, then he might replaces Kesrick Williams in the XI. Kesrick is the T20 specialist but he continue to bowl expensive spells almost in every match till now. The young off-spinner Mehidy Hasan plays his part well in the season. He claimed only 2 wickets in 4 matches but used to bowl well controlled spells quite often. Bowling all-rounder Farhad Reza used to bowl expensive spells but he knew a tricks to pick wickets. He bags 5 wickets in 4 innings and also contributes with some useful runs in the lower-order. Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Sami played last two matches and he brought in all his experiences to bowl well controlled spells. He conceded a total of 32 runs in 7 overs (2 innings), he remained wicket-less in both matches but things will change on his favour in this game. Speedster Mustafizur Rahman was sidelined for first two weeks of BPL. Some chances are there for him to make a return on Friday, if not will be available anytime soon.

Three wins a row and two consecutive losses were the results of Sylhet Sixers first 5 matches. After dominating the points table on the first week Sixers forced down to third with those two big losses. But the abandoned match against Titans gifted them one point and moved upward to second place in the points table. Sixers are in a hurry to be back in the winning ways but they may earn one point again without playing a game due to rain on Friday. As the last match of Sylhet Sixers abandoned, expecting the same changes from Sixers which we were mentioned in the previous match preview. Upul Tharanga and Andre Fletcher partnership for the opening wicket was the biggest plus for Sixers in first three games. But things were changed in last two matches, that means Sixers needs to regroup quickly before fading away more in the tournament. Andre Fletcher smashed 63, 36 and 48 runs respectively in first three matches and also maintained destructive strike-rate. Then he dismissed for just 4 runs against Titans in the previous meet and dropped for the last game. As Sixers need Fletcher in the top-order, he possibly make his return to the XI in this game.

The experienced Upul Tharanga started the season with a hat-trick half-centuries. He scored 196 runs in 5 innings which includes 69*, 51, 50, 26 and 1 runs respectively. Sixers wants him to give a better start and no wonder if he comes with 4th half-century of the tournament on Friday afternoon. Batsman Danushka Gunathilaka played a match winning innings in his debut game for Sixers. Then he scored 26 and 15 runs respectively in the last 2 matches. He is a good player who could score runs quickly and also capable of bowl part-time overs. He might play a key knock for Sixers in this game. Icon player of Sixers Sabbir Rahman managed to score only 22 runs in 5 innings. He has plenty of responsibilities on his shoulders, if he continue to fail in next few matches then may lose his place in the XI. Ross Whiteley shows some contribution in the middle-order but chances are high for him to make a way for Andre McCarthy who had impressive CPL season earlier this year. The inexperienced middle and lower middle-order causes the game for Sixers. Wicket keeper Nurul Hasan scored only 22 runs in 3 innings. His place may be under doubt, if Fletcher is back and keep wickets then Imtiaz Hossain has a chance to replace Nurul. There were no clue why Sixers dropped Liam Plunkett from the XI, they desperately needs him for this game. Wanindu Hasaranga played his debut match for Sixers on Saturday. But he conceded 20 runs in only 5 balls. Sylhet Sixers would look to bring in Liam Plunkett for Hasaranga.

Former England all-rounder Tim Bresnan has played the last game. He failed with a bat but claimed 2 wickets with a ball. He was the only bowler from Sixers who picked wickets in that game. It would be good for Sixers if they go with a combination of England bowlers Plunkett and Bresnan on Friday. Local bowlers Taijul Islam, Abul Hasan and Mohammad Shariff were used in previous matches. Abul Hasan claimed a tally of 5 wickets in 5 innings with a best figures of 3 for 22. He contributed with a bat in the last game and will keep his place in the XI safely. The left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has a mixed season. He bowls well in one game then bowl expensive spell in very next game. As he is the best spin option among local players, Sixers will keep him in the XI. Mohammad Shariff is expected to lose his place to Kamrul Islam Rabbi. Sixers used Kamrul Islam in only one game till now and he went for 54 runs in 4 overs. But based on his potential might get a second chance in the XI. If they look for more spin option from the local players then they would pick either Nabil Samad or Shuvagata Hom.
