The 32-year old wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine recalled to Australia test squad for the first time in 7 years. National selectors picked 13-man squad for the first two test matches of the Ashes series. Western Australia batsmen Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft selected for first two tests ahead of Glenn Maxwell and Matt Renshaw.
Tim Paine who made his test debut against Pakistan at Lord’s on July 2010, played his last test on that same year against India in Bengaluru. He used to play few T20 Internationals for Australia in recent times and now he recalled to the test side after seven years break. Selectors preferred Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft based on their recent performances in Sheffield Shield matches.

He made only one appearance in the international arena when he played T20I game against India in 2016. The 24-years old proved his skills in domestic matches and deserves a place in test squad. The well experienced Shaun Marsh is back in the test squad after 7 months break. He played his last test against India in March this year. He scored 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries in test arena and his highest test innings score was 182.
As Tim Paine added to the squad as a specialist wicket keeper, Mathew Wade has been left out from the squad for first two test. Glenn Maxwell and Matt Renshaw were overlooked due to their average performances in first 3 rounds of Sheffield Shield matches. When speak about the opening batsman Matt Renshaw, captain Steve Smith said, “I spoke to him last night actually and he was obviously disappointed to not be included in the squad, as you should be, you always want to be playing for Australia.”
Vice-captain David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb retained their places in the squad and all three of them will get their name in the XI. The Squad for the first Ashes test raised has raised plenty of eyebrows because the selectors didn’t include any specialist all-rounder in the squad. Mitchell Marsh who was the regular member of test squad in the past, not considered for these first two tests.
The strong pace attack has been named in the squad which includes Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Jackson Bird, Josh Hazlewood and Chadd Sayers. The off-spinner Nathan Lyon is the lone specialist spinner in the squad. Chadd Sayers called to the team as he always does well at his home ground Adelaide Oval which hosts the second test.
