Before New Zealand national team’s tour of India, New Zealand A side traveled India to play against India A in an unofficial tests and One-day matches. As two unofficial tests got over, two teams meets in five match unofficial one-day series. New Zealand A team has 16 players in their squad while BCCI has announced one set of squad for first 3 matches and other squad for 4th and 5th matches.



BCCI announced multiple captains for the five match one-day series against New Zealand to be played in Visakhapatnam which starts on October 6. Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in the first 3 matches while the young wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will take over the responsibilities for the last 2 matches in the series. Not only the captain, number of changes made in the squad for last 2 matches as well.

After the first three games, players Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Shreevats Goswami all going out of the squad. The young batsman from Punjab, Shubham Gill who was originally named in the squad for all five matches, sidelined with side strain. Due to the absence of Gill, the batsman Ankit Bawne comes into the squad for first 3 matches, who already named in last 2 matches.

Shreyas Iyer, Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw and Ankit Bawne are the specialist batsmen in the squad for first 3 matches. The wicket keeper cum opening batsman Shreevats Goswami will take care of gloves work for first three matches. All rounders Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda will strengthen the team with their all round performances. The leg-spinner Karn Sharma and the left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem are the lead spinners in the group. The pace bowlers who shined and made name for themselves with the IPL season earlier this year makes into A squad. Shardul Thakur, Basil Thampi, Mohammad Siraj and Siddharth Kaul are those pace-men who named in for all 5 matches.

For the 4th and 5th matches, Rishabh Pant, Baba Aparajith, Prashant Chopra and Abhimanyu Easwaran will come in to the squad. Rest of the squad will remain the same.

New Zealand A team traveled to sub-continent under the captaincy of Henry Nicholls. The 16-men squad has plenty of talented players and international experienced players like Colin Munro, Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi as well. Players who performed so well in domestic one-dayers and T20 tournaments last season, got their opportunities in this squad.

The experienced Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Tom Bruce are the batsmen in the squad along with New Zealand’s regular test opener Jeet Raval. The new comers Will Young, Glenn Phillips and Sean Solia also in the squad to strengthen the batting unit of New Zealand A team.

Two specialist wicket keepers are named in the squad, they are Tom Blundell and Tim Seifert. The 22-years old batting all rounder George Worker in the squad along with other two talented all rounders Scott Kuggeleijn and Todd Astle. All three of them played for national team in Tri-Series against Bangladesh and Ireland back in May. This limited overs series would be their chances to get a place in major team once again.

The leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has a big role to play in this series as he is the only specialist spin bowler in the squad apart from all rounders. The experienced Matt Henry will lead the pace attack which has Lockie Ferguson and Seth Rance in it.
