2ND ONE-DAY – INDIA ‘A’ VS NEW ZEALAND ‘A’ – FANTASY PREVIEW

Bad weather in Visakhapatnam washed out the first game and also postponed game two to this Tuesday. Both India A and New Zealand A sides look for some possible action as chances are brighter for all of them to get a place in their respective national squads. 2nd one-day match between India ‘A’ vs New Zealand ‘A’ rescheduled to start at 9 AM IST on Tuesday, 10th October 2017.

 

INDIA ‘A’ :

The young Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in this game and he has bunch of youngsters in the squad. Mayank Agarwal is one of the most experienced batsman in the squad who opens the innings for his team. He is expected to open the innings along with the wicket keeper Shreevats Goswami. Both of them has played plenty of matches in their List-A career and that would help them to score runs against New Zealand A. Captain Shreyas Iyer has scored 1062 runs in 31 List A innings with highest score of 140*. He scored century and an half-century in the recent unofficial tests against the same opponent and that form will engage him to score more runs in this series as well. The 17-years old Prithvi Shaw is in the squad, but he has to wait for his chances. Ankit Bawne who replaced injured Shubham Gill in first three matches squad, expected to bat in the middle-order. He smashed 6 half-centuries and 4 centuries in his List A career and expecting him contribute in this game on Tuesday. The batting all rounder Deepak Hooda is also bat in the middle-order and he is capable of playing big shots in the end overs. His off-spin bowling also the key for the team.

The all rounder Vijay Shankar scored runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL earlier this year and also performed well with both bat and bowl in tri-series in South Africa two months ago. As an all rounder he deserves a place in your fantasy teams. The leg-spinner Karn Sharma and the left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem are two specialist spinners in the squad. Based on the surface at Vizag, both of them will get their chances in this game. Karn Sharma is capable of scoring quick runs in the lower middle-order as well. India A squad has 4 quickies, all four of them gave their best in the IPL this year. Siddharth Kaul has claimed 92 wickets in his 50 List A matches and he picked 8 wickets in 4 matches in the recent Tri-series in South Africa. After the successful debut in the IPL, Mohammad Siraj earned his place in the ‘A’ squad and shown fine performances in both List A and First Class matches in last few months. Basil Thampi is the other find of IPL Season 10, he shown his best efforts for Gujarat Lions and earned his opportunities in India ‘A’ side. Shardul Thakur has made his ODI debut in the recent tour of Sri Lanka. It was not a great start for his International career, but good performances in this series will take him to national squad once again.

 

NEW ZEALAND ‘A’ :

After losing 2 unofficial tests with an innings margin, Henry Nicholls led-side has to prove a point in this limited overs series. Also, as the selectors are waiting to pick 6 players to the New Zealand national squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, players are in a position to give their best to earn their places. The batting all rounder George Worker is expected to open the innings along with wicket keeping batsman Glenn Phillips. George Worker has some international experiences in limited overs format and he also shown class act in his List A career. He scored 3765 runs in 96 innings with the highest score of 194 runs. He claimed 43 wickets with his left-arm spin bowling. Glenn Phillips got an opportunity to play for Jamaica Tallawahs in the CPL tournament two months ago and he utilized the opportunities by scoring runs every time that he came to bat. The 20-years old is expected to make big impact in this limited overs series. The well experienced and the power-hitter Colin Munro is in the squad of New Zealand ‘A’. Munro has played his last international match in May, since that he is fighting to get a place in New Zealand squad. This could be his chances to show his efforts and get back into the national squad. Captain of the side, Henry Nicholls also struggling to get back into the national squad. He has big points to prove in this series, once he shown his best, he will earn his place in Black Caps squad. Tom Bruce, the power-hitter is maintaining the strike rate of 125 in his List A career. He could possibly play a big role in the series and that will help him to make an ODI debut soon.

Tim Seifert and Tom Blundell are two specialist wicket keeper in the squad. Tim Seifert played both unofficial tests on the tour and he maintains the strike rate of nearly 100 and that would help him to earn his chances ahead of Tom Blundell. An all rounders Scott Kuggeleijn and Todd Astle are awaiting to make a big impact in the series. Scott Kuggeleijn would be on the list of must notable players as he utilized every opportunities which came in his way. He played 2 ODIs for New Zealand and claimed 5 wickets in those 2 matches. The 31-years old Todd Astle also played well with both bat and bowl in his List A career, he is also one of the important player in the squad. The all rounder Colin de Grandhomme has been added to squad as a replacement for the injured Sean Solia. Grandhomme has made an huge impact in New Zealand squad across the format over the year. He is searching for his place in the Black Caps squad and this will be his right chances to be back in the side. The leg-spinner Ish Sodhi is the lone specialist spinner in the unit, he is an experienced leggie who played 18 ODIs for New Zealand. The pacer Matt Henry is expected to play a big part with a ball in this series. His ODI and List A records proves how big key player he is in the squad. He claimed 123 wickets in his 69 List A innings, hope for more wickets in the series. Lockie Ferguson is the other pacer who has some international experiences. He is in hurry to play well to get back his place in the national team. Seth Rance is the third specialist seamer in the squad, he also had a good List A career where he claimed 58 wickets in 33 innings.
