Two big losses back-to-back in the tests, Sarfraz Ahmed led-side looking for a come back in the ODI series. Remember, this is the first ODI match for Pakistan since their title winning in the Champions Trophy back in June. Pakistan has made several changes from the test side to an ODI squad. The specialist limited overs batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Fakhar Zaman are in the squad and both of them are expected to open an innings for Pakistan in this game. Both Shehzad and Zaman played a good cricket in the Champions Trophy tournament and need to see whether are they in similar form till now. Babar Azam who struggled to score runs in recent months, played a good knocks in the T20I series against World XI back in home, last month. He had a poor test series on the tour and it is time for him to re-emerge his form and proves his worth in the side. Remember, he smashed hat-trick of centuries in the ODI series against West Indies last year in U.A.E.

The batting all rounder, experienced Mohammad Hafeez returning to the international cricket for the first time since the Champions Trophy final. His experiences in the limited overs format will come into the consideration and he has big role to play in this match. Not only with a bat, he is equally good with his off-spin action too. The most experienced Shoaib Malik is in the squad as well, he will continue to show his good work in the middle-order of Pakistan and he is a key player too. After those good performances in the test series, Haris Sohail has re-called to the ODI squad after 2 and half years time. His two half-centuries in the recent test series and three wickets haul in the second innings of second test will assure a place in the ODI XI. Captain Sarfraz Ahmed had lot of tough time in the past two months or so. But his responsible knock of 68 runs in the last test innings, gives hopes for some good performances from him in the series. The all rounders Imad Wasim and the young Shadab Khan retained their places safe in the ODI squad. Both of them are capable of runs in the lower middle-order and also good with their bowling too. But he is in a situation of score runs consistently to keep his place safe in the XI. The middle-order batsman Chamara Kapugedera is in the squad who failed in almost every chance that came in his way in 2017. He will get a name in the XI based on his experiences, but he has prove a point to stay in the XI. The batting all rounder Milinda Siriwardana was the only player in Sri Lankan side who played some aggressive cricket in the ODI series against India. He earned the opportunity with his performances and expecting that good form to continue against Pakistan on Friday. The all rounder Thisara Perera was in mixed form for past several months. But his all round performances for World XI side against Pakistan last month, get him back into the squad. He may offers some all round performances in this first match of the series. The hard-hitting bowling all rounder Seekkuge Prasanna’s last ODI appearance was against South Africa in the Champions Trophy, he may play a key role with his legbreak and also with the qualities of power-hitting. After the dream performances in the ODIs against India, the off-spinner Akila Dananjaya kept his place safe in the limited overs squad. He is expected to bowl in the first match and he deserves a place in your lineups.
