Australia’s limited overs tour of India begun in Chennai on last Sunday, the home team emerged victorious by 26 runs (DLS Method) in the rain affected game. The rain threat continuous as the host of second ODI, Kolkata forecasts thunderstorm for Thursday afternoon. Duckworth-Lewis method will come into the play in this game as well, so both the teams has to play with extra cautious. Second ODI between India vs Australia scheduled to start at 1:30 PM Local | 6 PM AEST on Thursday, 21st September 2017.
Virat Kohli and men are all set to go at one of the popular ground in the country, Eden Gardens. After the successful tour of Sri Lanka, Team India started their busiest home season with the on-going ODI series against Australia. It was not a great start for India in Chennai when they lost first 3 wickets inside 6 overs. India’s score was 11 runs on that point of time. After sometime India lost half of their side for 87 runs in 22nd over. When everyone thought India going to lose that game, Hardik Pandya and Dhoni fought back well and took a team to competitive total of 281 for 7 in 50 overs. The all rounder Hardik Pandya’s all round show lifted the team to victorious position. His power-hitting knock of 83 off 66 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes helped the team to the core. Former Captain Dhoni also batted well and scored useful 79 off 88 balls. The bowlers came up with an impressive spells and picked wickets at regular intervals. The spinners Chahal and Kuldeep shared 5 wickets among them while Hardik claimed 2 early wickets. India heading up to Kolkata with an fighting win behind them.
As Shikhar Dhawan left the squad due to family reasons, Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings along with Rohit Sharma in Chennai. Rahane dismissed for only 5 runs in that match, he also dismissed cheaply in the last ODI in Sri Lanka series as well. He has to utilize the chances which come in his way, or else he could warm the benches in upcoming matches. As per this game, Rahane will open the innings again. Rohit Sharma awaiting to play his happy hunting ground of Eden Gardens. He always bats well in there and remember his world record score of 264 against Sri Lanka came in this same venue 3 years ago. Rohit is the must pick for this game. Captain Virat Kohli had a bad game in Chennai where he dismissed for unusual duck out. He was in fine form against Sri Lanka, hopefully the real Virat Kohli would be showing up in this game. The big question mark in Team India would be whether Manish Pandey gets second chance at no. 4 or KL Rahul would replaces him. Pandey dismissed for 2 balls duck in the last game, but as he played lot of cricket at this venue for KKR in IPL, Manish Pandey expected to retain in his place. MS Dhoni’s storming form continued in Chennai, after that good series in Sri Lanka, he shined with 79 runs in Chennai. Kedar Jadhav who struggled in the series against Sri Lanka, batted well in the last game and scored useful 40 runs at crucial time. The man with golden arm could possibly bowl on Thursday and once that happen he would assure more fantasy points.
Hardik Pandya had a great game in Chennai, if he comes with similar performances again, we could witness another firework in Kolkata. His bowling spells would be a key factor too, hopefully he will give you lot more fantasy points on Thursday. India played with two spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the last game. Now, Ravindra Jadeja is available who replaced injured Axar Patel recently. But, chances are heavy to go with same combination in this game. Both Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled good spells on Sunday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s crucial knock of 32 off 30 balls in end overs lifted the team to post promising total on the board. Jasprit Bumrah who claimed plenty of wickets in Sri Lanka, started the home season in good note as well. Possibilities are high for him to shine once again with wickets. If India decides to go with same bowling attack, both Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav would wait for their turns further more.
Australia had an early advantage in the Chennai ODI on last Sunday. Nathan Coulter-Nile’s triple strike in the early overs of the game, gave a big momentum to the visitors. But their average bowling efforts in the second half of Indian innings, took a game away from them. Later on, Steven Smith accepted his mistake of bowling out Coulter-Nile early in the innings. Adam Zampa and James Faulkner’s expensive spells cost the Visitors a lot. Austrlia’s bad time continued when their target reduced to 164 runs and needs to chase down in 21 overs. Pressure was there on Australia batsmen and they failed to chase that target. Glenn Maxwell, the power hitting all rounder came with quick fire 39 runs off just 18 balls. Apart from him, Faulkner and Warner were an other batsmen who scored double-digit runs for Australia. From pretty good start, Australia faced a tragic end in the last game. They would be more prefer now, as DLS method on the cards once again on Thursday.
David Warner opened the innings along with the debutant Hilton Cartwright in the last game. On the absence of Aaron Finch who sidelined due to injury, Cartwright opened the innings in Chennai. The nervous debutant scored only one run on his debut. As Peter Handscomb joined the squad as a cover for Finch, chances are heavy for Travis Head to replace Cartwright at opening spot and Handscomb to play at 4th in the batting order. David Warner, the batsman who known for power-hitting and fireworks at top of the order scored 25 runs in the last game. He has plenty of experiences in Indian pitches as he played lot of cricket during IPL and that would help him to turn the game on his team favor on Thursday. Warner deserves a place in all your fantasy teams. Captain Steven Smith is the other promising player in Australia squad. As a captain and also an individual, Smith produces his best efforts all the time. He was unlucky when he mistimed the ball off Pandya’s over in the last game. He has all capabilities to be back with an outstanding performances and that could happen at Eden Gardens. The all rounder Glenn Maxwell was the only one who strike the ball casually in the last game. Maxwell has a big role to play in this game for Australia. As an all rounder, he must be in your teams.
James Faulkner who bowled a poor spell, managed that with his batting at Chennai. He managed to score 32 runs off 25 balls. If Australia decides to go with extra spinner, Ashton Agar may come into the XI by replacing Faulkner. Hardik Pandya thrashed Adam Zampa other day. Zampa working on his mistakes and hopefully, he will correct all his errors and bowls match winnings spells for his team in this clash. Pat Cummins bowled decent spell other day, but he remained wicket-less. The young pacer is quite dangerous in limited overs cricket and could come with much better spell in this game for sure. Coulter-Nile who played for KKR earlier this year, looking forward for another impressive show on Thursday. The wicket taking bowler Coulter-Nile deserves a place in your teams.
