Bangladesh tour of South Africa begins with two match test series and the first match to be played on Thursday. South Africa starts their home season after the disappointing tour of England, they would look to change things with this series. On other side, Bangladesh has traveled without their star all rounder Shakib al Hasan and looking to show their best on this overseas tour. The first test between South Africa vs Bangladesh is scheduled to start at 10 AM Local | 1:30 PM IST on Thursday, 28th September 2017.

Faf du Plessis led-side had a poor outing on the tour of England, earlier this year and begins their home season with fresh series against Bangladesh. The all rounder JP Duminy has announced his retirement from test cricket recently, the new comers Aiden Markram and Andile Phehlukwayo earned their opportunities and called into the squad. As the opener Stephen Cook omitted from the test squad, Titans captain and the new comer Aiden Markram is expected to open the innings along with the regular opener Dean Elgar. Markram has made a name for himself with match winning centuries for his domestic team Titans recently. The star batsman in the top order Hashim Amla used to bat at no. 3 in test cricket and that trend is expected to continue in this game as well. The captain Faf du Plessis could be the key player who bats at no. 4. Faf and Amla are most experienced batsman in the unit and both of them are expected to play big knocks to assure their form back and team’s win. Temba Bavuma has cemented his place in South Africa’s test squad. He is one of the key player in the middle-order batting. If South Africa decides to go with extra bowling option, the bowling all rounder Andile Phehlukwayo will make his debut in test cricket or else the batsman Theunis de Bruyn will keep his place in the middle-order. The regular wicket keeper, Quinton de Kock generally bats at no. 6 or 7 in test cricket, hopefully he will do the same role in this match too. Duanne Olivier has bowled well and claimed 5 wickets in the last test against England last month. At the same time the bowling all rounder Wayne Parnell made his return to the test squad, but unfortunately he faces fitness issues at the moment. If he cleared fit, Parnell will replaces Olivier. In case, Parnell is not available, Olivier will keep his place safe in the XI. The pace bowling sensation of South Africa, Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel will lead the bowling attack in this series. Both of them are key bowlers and has plenty of things to offer in this series. The lone specialist spinner in the squad, Keshav Maharaj also has key role to play in this test match.

Bangladesh test captain Mushfiqur Rahim leads the team once again in this test series. Bangladesh plays test series in South Africa for the first time in 9 years and they are going to play without their star all rounder Shakib al Hasan. The other all rounder Mahmudullah made his return to the squad to fulfill the absence of Shakib. The regular openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar will open the innings once again for their team. Tamim is well experienced, in fact he is the most experienced batsman in the squad. Sarkar who struggled in all three formats, found his form back in last few months time. Both openers has huge amount responsibilities on their shoulders. Imrul Kayes is expected to keep his place at no. 3. He was not on good form in most recent test series against Australia back in home, but as the squad don’t have better replacement, Kayes will keep his place safe. Mominul Haque will bat at no. 4 and he has big opportunity to cement his place in the team. The replacement of Shakib, all rounder Mahmudullah makes his return to the test squad for the first time in 6 months. He is well experienced and talented batsman who are capable of picking crucial wickets with his off-spin. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim always does his best for the team with a bat in test format and he is the pillar of Bangladesh in the middle-order. Hopefully, Rahim will lead the side from the front on this tour. Sabbir Rahman cemented his place at no. 7 in Bangladesh test XI and he also done his part well in recent Australia series. Sabbir possibly offers good show of batting in the lower middle-order. In last test against Australia, Bangladesh has played with 3 specialist spinners and one pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman. But, as South Africa pitches supports pace bowlers, Mushfiqur led-side expected to go with three seamers attack in this test match. Mustafizur Rahman will lead the bowling attack which contains Taskin Ahmed, Subhashis Roy and Rubel Hossain. Based on the experiences, Taskin and Rubel are expected to play along with Mustafizur. Mehidy Hasan could be the possible specialist spinner in the XI for Bangladesh.
