Tamil Nadu Premier League – II hosts 16th league match of the season on Friday evening. Karaikudi Kaalai faces Chepauk Super Gillies in this thrilling encounter. After the thumping win against Veerans on Wednesday, Kaalai moved to no. 3 in the points table with 4 points while their opponents Super Gillies also has 4 points right now. The winning team will get a chance to move to top 2 in the points table. Match 16 between Karaikudi Kaalai vs Chepauk Super Gillies scheduled to start at 7:15 PM IST on Friday, 4th August 2017.



Loss, Win, Loss and Win were the results of Karaikudi Kaalai’s first 4 league matches this season. It’s a quite mixed season for Kaalai. After losing the first game by 6 wickets to Lyca Kovai Kings, Karaikudi Kaalai came back well with big victory against Madurai Super Giant. Batting collapses in the next game caused them a match against clinical TUTI Patriots. Then registered an fighting victory against Veerans in the last game. They have won that game by 3 wickets in last over thriller. Now, Kaalai set to face one of the strongest team in the tournament Chepauk Super Gillies at MAC stadium in Chennai. Srikkanth Anirudha and Vishal Vaidhya’s good performances in the top order are the big plus of Kaalai. Both openers has scored runs for the team, except the game against Patriots. Srikkanth Anirudha has scored 148 runs in four innings which includes two half-centuries. He is in good form and if he settles in the middle on Friday, we could expect another good scores from his bat. His partner Vishal has played 3 matches and he impressed with scores of 65, 1 and 29 runs respectively.

Captain Badrinath started the season with well made 41. Since that he scored only 35 runs in last 3 innings. He is the most experienced player in the side and he could come with good scores at any time. M Shajahan continued to score quick runs in the last match as well. He scored total of 103 runs in 59 balls in last 3 innings. Keep an eyes on him, he could possibly play more quick firing knocks in the tournament. Rajhamany Srinivasan’s place in real jeopardy after he scored only 32 runs in last 4 innings. If Kaalai decides to drop him, Vijay Kumar may replaces him in the XI. Vijay Kumar opened the innings in first time but he dismissed for duck. He may get his opportunity on Friday. All rounders Chandrasekar Ganapathy and R Rajkumar fails with bat. Rajkumar managed to score only 16 runs in 4 innings including two duck outs. But he done his part well with bowl. He claimed 6 wickets in 4 matches and also bowled well economical spells quite often. He could be a key bowler for Kaalai on Friday. Ganapathy picked only 3 wickets in 4 matches and also concedes runs at over 9 runs per over. Young Mohan Prasath bowled some amazing spells and he picked 5 wickets with best of 3 for 13 against Super Giant. Sunil Sam and Sonu Yadav are other important bowlers in Kaalai side.



The runners-up of the Inaugural season last year, Chepauk Super Gillies has played 3 matches till now this season. They have won 2 out of 3 matches. Super Gillies started the season with back-to-back thumbing wins. In the first game against Thiruvallur Veerans, Gillies bowlers outperformed Veerans and controlled them below 130 runs. Then Super Gillies chased down target successfully and registered 6 wickets victory. In second match, Super Gillies played well again and came with another 6 wickets victory, this time it was against Kovai Kings. But after those two wins, Super Gillies faced the first defeat of the season against Tuti Patriots. They have lost that game by 27 runs. It is time for Chepauk team to re-group quickly and back to winning ways when they faces Kaalai on Friday at their home ground. Gopinath and Thalaivan Sargunam are the regular openers of Super Gillies. Gopinath has played sensibly in first two matches where he scored 55* and 37 runs respectively. He dismissed for just one run against Patriots in the last game, but the in-form batsman expected to score lot of runs against Kaalai. Sargunam scored only 1 run in the first game, but came with match winning 52 in the second. He batted at no. 4 in the last game, but expecting to be back at top of the order on Friday.

Captain Sathish has made lot of changes in their batting order in first 3 matches. Rajagopal Sathish dismissed for duck twice already in 3 innings. He opened the innings in the last game but dismissed for duck. He is well experienced all rounder, but things are not going on his favor with bat. But with a ball, he has done a fantastic job for Super Gillies. He picked 4 wickets at 4.5 runs per over. He is expected to overcome with good all round performances on Friday. Wicket keeper Karthik has played two important knocks for Gillies. He scored 41 and 39 runs respectively in those innings. Sasidev would be one of the key performer for Super Gillies in this game. If he promote up in the order, he could come with good knock. Bowling all rounder Antony Dhas had a poor game with bowl against Patriots where he conceded 50 runs in 4 overs. But he was promoted to no. 3 in that game and scored quick fire 43 runs off 27 balls. Sai Kishore bowled well in all 3 matches and picked 4 wickets with good economical spells. Another spinner in the side, R Alexander shown better performances with well economical and wicket taking spells. These two spinners will play crucial role for Super Gillies. Yo Mahesh has bright chances to be sit out as he did not perform well with both bat and bowl.
