England’s long home season continues with the fresh test series against West Indies which begins at Edgbaston on Thursday afternoon. West Indies’ two months tour of England starts with this three match test series. England is all set to play under the captaincy of Joe Root while West Indies will play under their regular test captain Jason Holder. The first test between England vs West Indies will be played under the lights and its schedule to start at 2 PM Local | 6:30 PM IST on Thursday, 17th August 2017.

The England team has successful home season this year after won all three series against South Africa and also shown good performances in Champions Trophy tournament in June. Joe Root’s first test series assignment as a captain, gone in his favor by 3-1 after defeating South Africa earlier this month. Now Root and Co. shifts their attention on West Indies who arrived to play three match test series. This could be a big chance for England players to steady their places in the team. England has announced 13-men squad for this test and they have made few changes in the squad. The players who were out of form during the series against South Africa, Keaton Jennings and Liam Dawson dropped along with the pacer Mark Wood. Mark Stoneman had a maiden call to the test squad and he is expected to open the innings in place of Keaton Jennings. Chris Woakes who recovered from an injury, back in the squad as well. The all rounder is expected to play crucial role in this test series, once he maintains his fitness. The leggie Mason Crane is awaiting to make his debut after made his maiden call-up to the test squad.

Alastair Cook, captain Joe Root, Tom Westley and Jonny Bairstow are in the squad which makes the batting unit more solid and strong. Dawid Malan’s place is certainly under doubtful after his failures in last two test against South Africa. Joe Root is a must pick player and his current form assures that. Jonny Bairstow plays some amazing knocks in the middle-order and he also in good form right now. Alastair Cook did not score a century in those 4 tests against South Africa, but he contributed runs in every test. This could be the right time for him to go for century or more, so he deserves a place in Fantasy teams as well. Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali will keep the all rounders role and both will continue to offer match winning performances for the team. Ben Stokes scored 300 runs in that series and also picked 7 wickets. Moeen Ali has won player of the series award in the test series against South Africa after shown his all round performances. He claimed 25 wickets in 4 tests and also scored 252 runs with a bat. Both these all rounders are in prime form and they will give a plenty of fantasy points. Bowling all rounder Chris Woakes will come in to the XI and he is expected to replace extra batting option Dawid Malan. Toby Roland-Jones impressed all with performances in his first test series itself. He is expected to keep his place safe and will offer pace attack along with experienced James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Anderson and Broad are the regular and front-line bowlers of England and that trend will continue in this series as well.

The big challenges are ahead of West Indies and the team has lot to prove on this tour. Captain Jason Holder leads the team once again in test format. The West Indies team traveled with few new comers and some other regular members of the team for past one year. After shown an impressive performances in the ODI series against India, Kyle Hope had a maiden test call-up and he is expected to play his debut test on Thursday. Vice-captain of the team, the opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite struggled in the series against Pakistan where he scored only 101 runs in 6 innings. He also struggled to score runs in recent practice matches on this tour and scored 85 runs in 3 matches. He was in good form and played an amazing knocks for West Indies in 2016. He has to find his form and score runs in this test. Kiern Powell who struggled a lot for months, has scored 92 and 100 runs respectively in the most recent warm-up match against Derbyshire. Those two knocks will assure a place for him in this test. The most hopeful batsman in the lineup, Shai Hope had a good outing in warm-up matches. He is expected to play key role for West Indies in this test series.

Jermaine Blackwood, the middle-order batsman is back in the squad for the first time in this year. He scored two half-centuries in warm-up matches and hope that he will get a place in the XI. The all rounder Roston Chase is one of the major players in West Indies test side for past one year. He has done a lot with both bat and bowl in the format and he is expected to play another crucial role on this tour. Captain Jason Holder needs to lead from the front. He played better cricket in recent times and that would help him to shine in this test match. After one and half years time, Kemar Roach finally found a place in West Indies squad. The pacer bowled well in warm-ups and expects to make his return to test cricket with this game. Shannon Gabriel is a key bowler of West Indies and he has big role to play in this series for West Indies. Alzaari Joseph and Miguel Cummins are other fast bowlers in the side, both of them may warm a bench if Roach gets a game. The leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo generally plays a key role in the format. This would be a testing time for him and once he shines that would be good for the team.
