T20 BLAST – WORCESTERSHIRE RAPIDS VS LANCASHIRE LIGHTNING – FANTASY PREVIEW

Number of matches to be played on Fantastic Friday in T20 Blast tournament. In one of those matches North Group teams Worcestershire and Lancashire meets in a clash at New Road, Worcester. The home side Rapids has lost all three matches till now while Lancashire won 2 matches and lost one. North Group match between Worcestershire Rapids vs Lancashire Lightning is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM Local | 10 PM IST on Friday, 21st July 2017.

 

WORCESTERSHIRE RAPIDS :

This is Worcestershire Rapids fourth straight home game and they lost all previous three matches respectively. The most recent one came against Derbyshire on Wednesday night. Rapids batted first in all 3 matches and failed to defend the target in all those matches. They have played with same XI in those 3 matches, as they lost all three may try one or two changes in their XI. They openers Daryl Mitchell and Joe Clarke are hard-hitting batsmen. But both of them yet to score half-century in the season. Clarke scored brilliant 42 off just 18 balls against Derbyshire on Wednesday. But Mitchell struggles to score runs quickly. It is time for these openers to perform as their team in urgency to register the first win. Joe Clarke may go for another firing innings on Friday.

The wicket keeper Ben Cox is the only consistent batsman in the side at the moment. He scored runs in all three innings, his scores were 43, 51 and 40* respectively. He is a key player who could bat well once again for Rapids. Brett D’Oliveira struggled to score runs, scored some runs in the last game. He might go further with bat and score runs on Friday. The bowling all rounder Mitchell Santner bowled well once again on Wednesday. He is a key bowler for Rapids who could pick wickets and also bowl control spells. He is yet to fire with the bat, but that’s not far for him. He may come with all round performances on Friday. Batsman Ross Whiteley plays a key role at lower middle order. He scored 40 against Warwickshire and 39 against Derbyshire. He is expected to score runs once again in this game.

Australian All rounder John Hastings struggles a lot in this T20 season. He is yet to pick a wicket for Rapids this year. He conceded 30+ runs in all three innings, but failed to take wickets. He helps the team with some quick runs at end overs, but he should bowl better spell on Friday. Captain Joe Leach is not performing well with both bat and bowl. Picking him in fantasy teams would be a risk at this stage of the tournament. Jack Shantry was the only pacer who claimed wicket in those matches. Other bowlers George Rhodes and Ed Barnard are not bowling more than 1 over in a match. Either one of them may make a way for Alex Hepburn on Friday.

 

LANCASHIRE LIGHTNING :

Lancashire Lighting played four matches so far and won 2 matches. Their match against Yorkshire was ended in a tie and they lost one game to Leicestershire. Lightling has well mixed of batsmen and bowlers. Their top order batting looks solid with Karl Brown, Liam Livingstone, Aaron Lilley, Wicket keeper Jos Buttler and Dane Vilas. Karl Brown and Liam Livingstone are the openers for Lightning. In first two matches, first wicket was fell in very first over itself. But in last two encounters, Brown and Livingstone gave a solid start for their team. Brown scored 126 runs in 4 matches with high score of 61 while Livingstone scored 115 runs with high score 48 runs. Both of them needs to play good knocks in this game and both are expected to play a key role for Lightning.

Aaron Lilley played two 30+ knocks in quick time. He could play another quick-firing innings in this game. Keep an eye on him, he could surprises all with big scores. England’s wicketkeeper Jos Buttler plays a crucial role for Lightning. He scored 168 runs in 4 innings and he is expected to play another match winning knock for his team on Friday. He is a must pick player, but as he is wicket keeper – Ben Cox would give tough fight in sense of fantasy points. Dane Vilas has contributed runs for the team and he could come with quick 50+ scores at any time. Captain of the team Steven Croft not impressed with his batting skills till now. But he used to bowl some good spells in powerplay. He won many matches for his team in the format and that would help him to be back strong in the tournament.

All rounder Ryan McLaren contributes well with both bat and bowl. He scored quick and handy knocks in almost all innings and also bowled well economical spells with wickets. He could be a must pick all rounder for this game. Jordan Clark is one of the key bowler in the side. He has capabilities to pick wickets in no time. Mathew Parkinson done a great job in the last game with 3 for 17. Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan also claimed three wicket haul in the last game. Lancashire’s bowling unit looks much stronger than Rapids. Lightning bowlers possible give much more points than Rapids bowlers.
