Nottinghamshire are all set to take on Northamptonshire at Trent Bridge in the NatWest T20 on Saturday. This is the fourth time these two teams will face each other in this marquee T20 tournament. Currently, Northamptonshire are at the second position of the North Group points table while Nottinghamshire languishing to the third position from the bottom. A victory in this away match will ensure Nortamptionshire’s place on the top of the points table. On the other hand further defeated will lead Nottinghamshire to the second position from the bottom replacing Worcestershire. This match is important for both teams as it offers them to change their respective positions on the points table. Both sides had won on Friday; hence they should be brimmed with confidence before Saturday’s match at Trent Bridge.
Nottinghamshire batsmen Alex Hales and Samit Patel have had good outings in the last match as they scored 47 and 55 respectively. So, during today’s match against Northamptonshire, he will look for a blitzkrieg start. At the same time, Harry Gurney has already made his mark this season with four wickets from two matches. The left arm fast bowler picked up three wickets in the first match against Yorkshire and the team will back him for a good performance against Northamptonshire.
With the Friday night victory chasing a high score helped Nottinghamshire to gain the confidence and now they will look for a back to back victory at home ground. But against in from Northamptonshire, they will face a stern task. Hence, they have to keep themselves calm and play their own game. Throughout the season, Notts have shown that their strength lies on batting. Twice in this competition, they have chased down 200 plus totals. Batting first they have also scored penalty of 200 plus scores. Their only concern is bowling. Today they will look to Ish Sodhi, the New Zealand spinner and experienced Samit Patel.
They are one of the best-balanced sides in the tournament. Northants are currently placed at the second position of the points table. However, it is well known that they don’t have a good track record against the Notts. But, they can take inspiration from last year’s Twenty 20 final. Now, they will look for another win against Notts. They have a very strong batting line up but bowling unit doesn’t have any standout performers but they have the capability to bowl well. Rory Kleinveldt and Tabriz Shamshi have taken four wickets a piece this season. They have one captain Wakely who knows where to set the fielders.
Among the key players, Seekkuge Prasanna and Tabriz Shamshi will be key players for the Northants while Mohammad Azharulla has been ruled out. In the batting department, Richard Levi’s return from injury will strengthen their batting line up. Both openers Ben Duckett and Josh Cobb are in good form as well.
