As Team India completed the tour of West Indies on Sunday, their next outing will be in Sri Lanka. India’s tour of Sri Lanka – fixtures was announced on last week which contains 3 tests, 5 ODIs and one T20Is. Selectors of BCCI has named their 16-members squad for the upcoming 3 match test series on the tour.

The front-line test openers of India’s test squad, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay makes their comeback to the team as they are recovered from their injuries. KL Rahul was the man in-form in the test series against Australia in March, this year. He had a run of 6 fifties in seven 7 innings against Australia, then he was out of action due to injuries. Rahul hasn’t play any competitive cricket since that Australia series. That means he was out of action for more than 3 months and missed IPL, Champions Trophy and West Indies tour.

KL Rahul’s opening partner Murali Vijay also missed IPL and other series as he suffered with wrist and shoulder injuries. He also regained his fitness and named in the squad for Sri Lanka tests which begins on July 26 in Galle.

Apart from these two batsmen, Rohit Sharma also makes his return to test cricket. He played his last test against New Zealand in November last year, then he missed competitive cricket as he undergone surgery for his injured thigh. He didn’t feature in the Tests against England, Bangladesh and Australia during the home season. He was back during IPL and featured in Champions Trophy tournament. He missed out West Indies tour as BCCI wants him fresh for this tour.

An all-rounder Hardik Pandya who shined in T20s and ODIs in recent times, kept his place safe in the test squad. He was in the squad for first two tests against Australia earlier this year. Now, he is back in the side as his medium fast bowling action suits well in Sri Lankan conditions.

Indian team has three men spin attack for this test series. Major spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are in the squad along with new sensation Kuldeep Yadav. Four pace options are available in the squad, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav are in the squad.

Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara is in the squad and he is expected to play big role in the series. He played crucial knocks in Sri Lanka two years ago and similar style of knocks are expected from him on the tour. Captain Virat Kohli, Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are the specialist batsmen in the squad.
