The biggest party in sport, Caribbean Premier League is back with the fifth season and the tournament kick starts on 4th August. Six franchises are participating in the event and each team representing the countries in Caribbean Islands. In past four seasons, Jamaica Tallawahs has won the title twice. Tallawahs are the defending champions and they also won the title in the inaugural season 2013. Barbados Tridents were the title winners in 2014 while Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel was 2015 Champions.

As CPL is on the corner, all six teams has revealed their squads respectively. CPL draft was done earlier this year and franchises retained their major players and picked some new players during the draft. In last few days, four Pakistani players have been contracted as a replacement players to various franchises.



Powerful all rounder Kieron Pollard will lead the team once again in this year competition. He is a big asset of Tridents and he has well mixed of local and overseas players in his side. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, most experienced all rounder from Pakistan Shoaib Malik, bowling all rounder Wayne Parnell and Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz are four overseas players who playing for Tridents in this year. The power-hitting opener Dwayne Smith is in the squad which also has experienced bowler Ravi Rampaul in it. The young wicket keeper Nicholas Pooran had a dream season last year and he would offer similar performances this year too. U19 all rounder Shamar Springer is playing Tridents and he has a company of all rounders Raymon Reifer and Christopher Barnwell.

The opener from New Zealand Martin Guptill is all set to lead Guyana Amazon Warriors in this year CPL tournament. The experienced batsman had a good outing last year and he grabbed the post from Rayad Emrit who handled the captain in the second half of last season. The teen spin sensation from Afghanistan Rashid Khan is playing for Amazon Warriors for the first time as he picked in the draft. Pakistan’s T20 specialist bowler Sohail Tanvir and batsman from Pakistan Babar Azam are the other two overseas players in Amazon Warriors squad. Chris Lynn was the original draft, but Babar Azam named as a replacement after Lynn sidelined due to shoulder injuries. Wicket keeper cum opener Chadwick Walton, batsman Jason Mohammed and an experienced all rounder Rayad Emrit are the major impact players from the Caribbean islands. The spinner Veerasamy Peramaul is also in the squad of Amazon Warriors.

The legendary Sri Lankan, Kumar Sangakkara will captaining Tallawahs in this fifth edition of CPL. Sanga’s experiences are key for the defending champs. Tallawahs has strong team and they would look for successful title defense. No. 1 all rounder Shakib al Hasan, Pakistan’s veteran bowler Mohammad Sami and all rounder Imad Wasim are other 3 overseas players who playing for Tallawahs this year. Bowler Krishmar Santokie bowled so well in previous seasons and that would help him to shine in this year too. Kesrick Williams came to an limelight during the last season with his splendid bowling efforts and lots of expectation on him ahead of the season. Batting all rounder Rovman Powell also played well for Tallawahs last year. He could play key role in this year. Gidron Pope, Garey Mathurin, Jon-Russ Jaggesar and Jonathan Foo are other notable players in Tallawahs squad.

St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots finished at bottom of the points table in last two seasons. Now they are in a situation of prove a point and perform better than previous seasons. They grabbed storm of T20 cricket Chris Gayle in the draft and appointed him as a captain. The most experienced T20 player Gayle has to lead the side with his powerful batting and also with his leadership skills. Pakistan’s veteran all rounder Mohammad Hafeez came into the squad at the last moment as a replacement player. Afghan’s star all rounder Mohammad Nabi, South African spinner Tabriaz Shamsi and Pakistan’s new bowling sensation Hasan Ali are in the squad to fulfill overseas players role. Hafeez replaced Ben Cutting and Hasan Ali replaced Kieran Powell. The hard-hitting opener Evin Lewis gave a solid start for the team last year and he is available to do the same in this season too. All Rounders Jonathan Carter, Carlos Brathwaite, bowler Sheldon Cottrrell and Devon Thomas are a key players from the islands.

Two times World T20 winning captain Darren Sammy will lead St. Lucia franchise one more in the CPL tournament. He played crucial role for the team in past seasons and same could be expected this year too. He has plenty of talented youngsters and well experienced players in the squad. Former Australian all rounder Shane Watson is in the squad. He had poor outing in this year IPL, but he could regain form and expects big impressions from him in this CPL season. Wicket keeper from Pakistan Kamran Akmal, Eddie Leie, New Zealand’s Jesse Ryder and Mitchell McClenaghan are other overseas players in Stars squad. New Zealand duo Ryder and McClenaghan came into the squad by replacing David Miller and Lasith Malinga. The veteran Marlon Samuels, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher and Shane Sillingboard are must watchable local players in Stars squad.

The all rounder Dwayne Bravo who sidelined for past several months with injuries, will be back for CPL 2017 and he will lead the side in the tournament. The franchise won the title in 2015 under the captaincy of Dwayne Bravo and expects same from their captain this time around. Legendary Brendon McCullum, South Africa’s Hashim Amla, New Zealand’s T20 specialist Colin Munro, Pakistan’s teenage all rounder Shadab Khan and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz are players who fills overseas quota of Knight Riders. The magical spinner Sunil Narine has to play key role for Knight Riders this year. Darren Bravo, wicket keeper Denesh Ramdin, all rounder Kevon Cooper are the experienced local players in Trinbago squad. Ronsford Beaton, Nikita Miller, William Perkins and Jevon Searles are other notable players in Trinbago Knight Riders squad.
