Champions Trophy 2017 winning team Pakistan receives Rs 14 crores as reward!!

Champions Trophy winning team Pakistan won Rs 14 crores for winning their first 50-overs tournament since 1992. Sarfraz Ahmed’s team has won the Champions Trophy final beating arch-rivals India by 180 runs. The victory also helped Pakistan to improve their ICC ODI rankings and currently they are placed at sixth place.

With eight edition of the Champions Trophy got over, it is time for the team to collect their reward money. Before the start of the tournament, ICC in their statement had announced that the winner of the eight-team tournament will take home a cheque of $2.2 million.

“The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales from 1-18 June carries a total prize money of $ 4.5 million with the winner of the eight-team tournament taking home a cheque of $ 2.2 million,” the ICC announced.

Pakistan, who won their maiden Champions Trophy title, were awarded a cash prize of approx. Rs. 14 crores (USD 2.2 million). India, who were contesting to defend the title they won in 2013 and finished second in the tournament, got a prize money of Rs. 7 crore (USD 1.1 million).

Other teams who finished in top four-England and Bangladesh received Rs. 3 crore each. The Mashrafe Mortaza-led side made it to their first semi-final in an ICC event while England had entered the knockout stage as the only side, which was yet to suffer a defeat.

Meanwhile, three big teams Australia, New Zealand and South Africa took an embarrassing exit from the group stage. Australia suffered the wrath of rain which was the reason behind their early exit from the tournament. In their final game, Australia suffered eight-wicket defeat against England.

At the same time, South Africa lost to Pakistan and India, as a result, they were kicked out of the tournament. New Zealand suffered defeat to Bangladesh and England which put an end to their 2017 Champions Trophy campaign.
