Match 54 in the Indian Premier League – 10 would decide the top spot on the table when Table toppers Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders meets in their respective last league match of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders who are two points behind Mumbai Indians has better net run rate so far. Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians match is scheduled to begin at 8 PM IST | 2:30 PM GMT on Saturday, 13th May 2017.

With 16 points and net run rate of +0.729, Kolkata Knight Riders has bright chances to go playoff by finishing top of the table. This is the last preliminary match for KKR and a win from here assure them a top spot and that would gives them lot more confidence in the playoffs. Chris Lynn is back in the side and made a mark straightaway with two back-to-back half centuries that would be biggest boost for KKR. But, despite Lynn innings, other batters came with poor show against KXIP and that cost them a match few days ago. Sunil Narine who opens the innings along with Lynn, has to play his fearless knock once again and would help KKR to get some momentum in the early part of the innings.

Captain Gambhir was not in great form in recent times, he used to score plenty of runs for his team. But, in last few innings Gambhir struggled to score runs. He needs to step up with big innings on Saturday. Robin Uthappa missed two matches last week due to injury, but he was back in the side against KXIP. He is a real key player for KKR in the middle order along with Manish Pandey. Yusuf Pathan played just one good innings for KKR this season, if he gets chance on Saturday that might be his day. Colin de Grandhomme and Chris Woakes are doing overseas all rounders role for KKR and both of them improves match after match for KKR. Nathan Coulter-Nile missed out in KKR XI after Lynn back in the side. Now chances are Coulter-Nile to back in the XI as he done well for KKR at Eden Gardens this season. Indian pacers Umesh Yadav and Ankit Rajpoot combo are doing well for KKR at the moment. Kuldeep Yadav – the left arm spinner does a good job than leg spinner Piyush Chawla. That might help him to keep his place safe in the XI. Suryakumar Yadav is in backup for KKR, he has chances to replace out-of-form Yusuf Pathan.

Two back-to-back losses shattered Mumbai Indians’s momentum little bit, but their team combination is still strong and they has final chance to finish at top of the table and go to playoff by refreshing their confidence level. Mumbai Indians has 18 comfortable points in 13 matches, but their NRR is bit lower than KKR. Rohit Sharma and his men had a tough game against KXIP on Thursday. MI gave all their efforts to chase down the target of 231 runs, but fell 7 runs short in the end. Karn Sharma justified his selection with some good batting against KXIP and the good spell against DD. But, Krunal Pandya who done so good with his all round performances for MI would get back into the side as they need to re-group quickly before the playoffs. Jos Buttler would not be available for the playoffs and his replacement in the XI Lendl Simmons already hits two half-centuries in three innings that he played. MI wants him to go for another good knock.

Parthiv Patel wicket keeper cum opening batsman playing so well at top of the order for MI throughout the season. Nitish Rana who started the season in high note and raised everyones eyebrows with his performances, struggles a lot in last 5 innings. He should find his form back as his team needs him to do well. Ambati Rayudu is in bench, he has some sort of chances to replace Nitish Rana in this important encounter. Rohit Sharma scored superb half-century against SRH, but fell early in the game against KXIP. It’s always a happy hunting ground for Rohit Sharma at Eden Gardens and that makes him as a big impact player in this clash. Kieron Pollard is in very good form at the moment, he smashed 60+ against DD. Then, played a quick fire innings and scored half-century in the high-scoring game against KXIP. He is a big boost in the middle order along with power hitting Hardik Pandya. He also played a firing knock against KXIP and his spell of 2 or 3 overs also very handy for MI. His brother Krunal Pandya has huge role to play in this game, for that he needs to back in the XI. Harbhajan Singh had two good games, then gone too expensive in the last game against KXIP. He was bowling so well and that Harbhajan might be back to his well economical and wicket taking spell. McClenaghan, Malinga and Bumrah are the pacers which MI used to go regularly. But, Malinga’s average run continues in the season, he might take rest and make a way for Mitchell Johnson in this game.
