KINGS XI PUNJAB :

Comfortable wins in last two matches brought back Kings XI Punjab alive and brighten up their playoff chances. As KXIP has four matches to play in next 8 days and two of those matches will be held at Mohali, KXIP has lot of chances to qualify for Playoffs. For that, Glenn Maxwell and his men need to continue their good efforts in the middle and keep their momentum high with maximum of wins. On Sunday, KXIP meets one of the weak side of the season Gujarat Lions. In the last match against RCB, bowlers brought back the team into the game and won the game successfully by 19 runs. Axar Patel was the exceptional in that game, he performed with both bat and bowl. Axar came with 38 runs off 17 balls and also picked 3 for 11 in 3 overs spell with bowl. Pace bowler Sandeep Sharma also performed so well in back-to-back matches. He bowled really well against DD and won man of the match award. On Friday, he received man of the match award for the second straight time for his performances of 3 for 22 runs in 4 overs. Both Axar and Sandeep has a big role to play against Lions on Sunday. Varun Aaron and Mohit Sharma also done a good job with bowl in last 2 matches, both of them are expected to support Axar and Sandeep once again on Sunday.

KXIP captain Glenn Maxwell also started to bowl in last few matches and he already done a very good job with his part time off-spin. He picked 1 for 12 vs DD and also picked 2 for 15 runs in 3 overs against RCB. The top order batsmen did not stabilized the innings RCB. Both openers Amla and Guptill dismissed for single digit scores. Shaun Marsh managed to score 20 runs off 17 balls, he did not convert that good start into big scores. Manan Vohra and wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha managed to score 25 and 21 runs respectively, but both of them scored at around the strike rate of 90. All these 5 batsmen has to play better knock in the big ground at Mohali to ensure a win against Lions. Skipper Maxwell also needs to score runs and he needs to score quickly. As the combination works well for KXIP, an unchanged XI are expected to play against Lions.

GUJARAT LIONS :

Gujarat Lions posted over 200 runs in the last match against Daredevils, but still they were unsuccessful in defending the target with the bowling attack they have in this season. With that loss, Lions playoff hopes were already closed, they have 3 more matches to improve their performances and move upward in the points table. Currently they are at seventh position with 6 points. Both openers Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith fell early in the last game. McCullum suffered with hamstring and he do not has any part in the remainder of IPL season. Captain Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik were very good and the pair put 139 runs for the 3rd wicket stand in that game. That kind of performances are needed once again from these two in-form players. Aaron Finch also hurt his hand while batting against DD. There is no news yet about his injury, hopefully he will play in this game and he is expected to open the innings along with Ishan Kishan. Dwayne Smith may move down to middle-order once again. The uncapped player from U.A.E. Chirag Suri has chances to play his debut game as Lions has only four overseas options now which includes Chirag Suri.

Among the bowlers, every one gone expensive on other day against DD. An inexperienced bowling attack of Lions was the major reason for their failures this season and it was continued again in that game. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a little cameo in the end of Lions innings with score of 18 runs in 7 balls. But, he conceded 28 runs in his 2 overs spell for one wicket. James Faulkner bowled at 14 runs per over in that game against DD. Both all rounders should come with much better bowling attack to control the top heavy batting of KXIP. Pace bowlers Basil Thampi and Pradeep Sangwan had a good game against MI, but both of them bowled around at 10 runs per over against DD. Ankit Soni, the leg-spinner had two good games then he also conceded at 13 runs per over in the last match. Lions might retain their bowlers Thampi, Sangwan and Soni for this game as their all other bowlers gone more worse than them.
