The defending champions Sunrisers lost bit of momentum in the closing stages of Preliminary round, then fought back well and finished at three in the table. Their opponent Kolkata Knight Riders were at top of the table, later they moved down to 2nd but their back-to-back losses in the last two matches of Preliminary, they pushed down to 4th in the table. As the losing team will be eliminated, both the teams would eyes on win in this encounter. The eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders is scheduled to begin at 8 PM IST | 2:30 PM GMT on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

In those 14 matches that they played, David Warner’s team has won 8 matches and lost 5. Their match against RCB was ended in no-result. Therefore, Sunrisers Hyderabad earned 17 points and finished at third in the points table. The defending champions needs to beat KKR in this clash to remain in the tournament and defend their title which they won last year. Sunrisers were in the similar position last year too, in the end David Warner lifted the trophy for SRH. He and his men has to work hard to lift the second title in a row. The opening partnership of Warner and Shikhar Dhawan are the big boost of SRH. Both of them played really well during the league stages and stays at top 2 of the most runs list. Captain Warner has scored 604 runs in 13 innings and his partner Dhawan scored 468 runs in 13 innings. Their opening stand would be crucial for SRH on Wednesday and both of them are expected to play with lot of responsibilities.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was dropped in the last two matches, he has chances to be back in the side as they are playing in the do or die match on Wednesday. If SRH makes him to sit out again, then Mohammad Nabi the all rounder will retain his place in the XI. All rounder Moises Henriques has mixed tournament this year. He was performing so well in some of the initial matches, then he managed to score some usual runs. But he continued to fail with the bowl and conceded lots of runs in league stages. He is a big player of SRH and the team expects him to play well in this clash. Yuvraj Singh was rested in the last league match and Deepak Hooda replaced him in the XI. He was missed that match with sore finger. As it is most important game for SRH, Yuvraj is expected to be back in the XI. All rounder Vijay Shankar got an opportunity to play in the last two league matches and justified his selection with his performances. He has scored 63 runs not out off 44 balls in the last league match against Gujarat Lions and that would help him to keep his place safe in the XI. All Rounder Mohammad Nabi bowled a brilliant spell against Mumbai Indians last week, also he bowled good economical spell against Lions in the last match. If SRH decided to bring Williamson back in the side, Nabi would make a way for him.

Ashish Nehra has been ruled out for the playoffs due to hamstring injury. That might confirms Mohammad Siraj’s place in the XI. The left arm pacer struggled to take wickets and conceded lot of runs. But finally he came with good spell of 4 for 32 in 4 overs against Lions in the last game. If the day goes on his way, Siraj might come with an another impressive spell. Teen leg-spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan continues his good work match after match and impressed everyone in the season. In latest, he has taken three wickets for 34 runs against Lions on Saturday. He is the key bowler for SRH at typical pitch like M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and he is expected to live upto the expectations. New comer Siddharth Kaul also impressed with his stunning performances this season. He has picked 16 wickets in 9 matches this season and he is expected to control KKR batting unit with his bowling on Wednesday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the lead bowler in the race of Purple Cap has taken 25 wickets in 13 matches. He won the same award last year and looking to win it back for the second straight year in IPL history. Bhuvi did not pick much of wickets in last few matches, but he could turn the table at any moment and Wednesday might be his day.

In 14 league matches, Kolkata Knight Riders has won 8 matches and earned 16 points. KKR won 5 out first 7 matches this year, but just 3 more wins in next 7 matches forced them to go down in the table and finished at fourth in the table. Four losses in last five matches were the biggest set back for the two time champions. Their domination in the season wasn’t ended well and that caused them a top spot. Now, Gautam Gambhir and team has to give lot of hard work to win three matches in a row to lift the title for the third time. If they do that, then KKR will be the first team to win IPL Trophy in three different years. Chris Lynn was back in the side which was the big boost for the team. He lived upto his level and played back-to-back half-centuries on his return to the team. Spinner Sunil Narine used to open the innings for KKR in many matches this year. He smashed a record breaking half-century in just 15 balls when he played last time at this same venue. That might keep him at opening position for this match, unless Gambhir is expected to back in opening position.

Gautam Gambhir is not in great form at the moment. He had momentum in the tournament with lots of runs. But, he started to struggle few matches ago and did not fire till then. He has to play huge role in this game as his team plays do or die game. Gambhir might be back to opening position and starts to score runs. Robin Uthappa needs to fire at his home ground of M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. He missed 2 matches due to injury, returned back and last 2 matches for KKR, but he failed in both innings. As the match is at Bangalore, he is expected to play big knock on Wednesday. Another local boy Manish Pandey is not scoring runs quickly at the moment but he used to score some useful runs for his team. As he is back in Bangalore now, he might play an big knock on Wednesday. Yusuf Pathan struggled throughout the season, but in the last match he fired up with 20 runs off 7 balls with 3 sixes. There were some hint for him to getting his form back, if he needs to perform with full effects then this is the day that he has to play. Colin de Grandhomme keeps his place in the XI and started to perform well with quick runs in lower down the order. He is not consistent with bowl, but he could surprise with wickets on Wednesday.

Chris Woakes, the all rounder is not available as he already left to England for National duties. New Zealander Trent Boult was back in the side in the last match against MI and he picked 2 wickets in his 4 overs. He has chances to keep his place in the XI. Some sort of chances for him to make a way for Nathan Coulter-Nile who has done so well for KKR in first half of the league stages. Kuldeep Yadav is expected to continue his good work left arm wrist spin on Wednesday. Indian pacers Umesh Yadav and the uncapped Ankit Rajpoot are doing well for KKR at the moment. Umesh was the pick of the bowler when KKR was at this venue 10 days ago. KKR needs to show all round performances to go through for the Qualifier 2.
