Delhi Daredevils batsman Rishabh Pant has played sensational cricket in Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2017. The Delhi dasher performance in IPL 10 and in domestic cricket fetched him a Team India call-up as a stand-by player in 2017 Champions Trophy in England.
Now, the Daredevils franchise wants to retain him for the next season. The 19-year-old is an exceptional talent, so Daredevils don’t to let him go to opposition team.
Delhi, earlier, let key batsmen like David Warner, AB de Villiers, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. These key batsmen have become important to other IPL teams.
Delhi Daredevils mentor Rahul Dravid asked team management to retain him for the next season. “The coaching panel has made it clear to the Delhi management that Pant should be the top choice for the team in future,” a source told Times of India minutes after Delhi lost their last game of the season to the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 runs on Sunday night.
However, IPL Governing Council (GC) has told all teams that all players will be sent back to the auction before the IPL 2018 which will ruin Daredevils wish to retain players like Pant. However, the Daredevils management is ready to ask GC for one more time to consider their request.
Dravid is happy to watch a youngster’s performance in competitive cricket. The Indian legend said, “Rishabh played very well this year. He entered the tournament at a very a difficult time. He lost his father, but overcame that tragedy and did consistently well throughout the season. I am sure he will go on to become a very important player for India.”
However, Dravid was disappointed with the way Delhi played and that losing five out six games in the final over.
Injuries to experienced batsmen Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy affected Daredevils campaign in IPL 2017.
