Indian seamer Ishant Sharma finally found an Indian Premier League (IPL) team as he signed a new contract with Kings XI Punjab. Ishant has replaced injured Murali Vijay. The franchise based T20 tournament all set to start from April 5.
Ishant’s inclusion will bolster Glenn Maxwell lead KIXP’s bowling attack. Ishant will spearhead the inexperienced KIXP bowling attack which features Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Varun Aaron and T Natrajan. In the IPL auction, KIXP spent Rs 2.8 crore on Varun Aaron and Rs 3 crore on left arm seam bowler Natarajan.
Despite a strong bowling attack, KIXP opted for Ishant Sharma’s experience. Ishant has been a regular member of the Indian Test team. His base price for auction was Rs 2 crore. He had gone unsold in the auction. But, KIXP bought him considering his experience and recent performance. His presence in the team will give KIXP a much-needed strength in the inexperienced bowling attack.
In the last season, Ishant has played for defending champion Sunrisers Hyderabad and also appeared, for now, defunct Deccan Charges, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rising Pune Supergiant.
Ishant has played 70 matches in IPL and took 58 wickets with the best figure of 5 for 12 at an average of 35.34.
Ishant Sharma was India’s one of the most reliable bowler during India’s 19-match unbeatable in consecutive six series. He gave India breakthrough at crucial times. He was Captain Virat Kohli’s one of the vital cogs along with Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami.
However, Ishant has not been a part of Indian limited over teams for two years now. Just before the 2015 World Cup, he suffered a heartbreaking injury; as a result, he had to leave the Indian team.
However, a good season in IPL could change his fortune. With Champions Trophy is knocking at the door, he will have a good chance to feature in the playing XI. India are the defending champion. In 2013 Champion Trophy, Ishant Sharma played an instrumental role.
