IPL – MATCH 31 – ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE VS GUJARAT LIONS – FANTASY PREVIEW

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s last match was washed-out as rain spoilsport at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday night. The same venue is set to host Royal Challengers Bangalore’s next match against Gujarat Lions on Thursday. The 31st match of this IPL season between Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Lions is scheduled to begin at 8 PM IST | 2:30 PM GMT on Thursday, 27th April 2017.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE :

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) earned one point in the last game as match was abandoned without ball being bowled against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. With that much important point earned, RCB has moved to no. 6 in the table with total of 5 points. Before that match the last year finalist where at bottom of the table. As only 6 matches to play for in the league stage of the season, RCB are in must win situation when they meet Lions on Thursday. Last year when these two teams met at this same venue, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli made a record partnership of 229 runs for the 2nd wicket in just 16 overs. AB de Villiers’s scores of 129 in just 52 balls proved that how much hard they gone against Lions bowlers in that game. Currently, RCB is in a position to bring huge win for the team just like how they did against Lions last year and Lions bowling attack might helps RCB to overcome from that poor batting of all out for 49 runs on last Sunday.

Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle has plenty of job to do as an opening batsmen in this clash. Chris Gayle found back his form against the same opposition last week where he smashed 77 runs in just 38 balls with 5 fours and 7 sixes. After that game, Gayle made only 7 runs in the match against KKR on Sunday. This could be a perfect time for the big man to back in hard-hitting form and score lot of runs for the team. Virat Kohli also played so well against Lions in previous meet. He scored 64 off 50 balls in that game and laid a good foundation along with Gayle. Virat who scored over 900 runs in last season, managed to score two half-centuries in 4 innings that he played. He is yet to bring his best in the tournament and hopefully this match could bring best of him. AB de Villiers who generally known as quick runs scorer and big entertainer for the fans, started so well with a knock of 89 runs. Since that game, Mr. 360 is in bad situation and yet to score half-century for RCB. He managed to score only 8 runs in the game against KKR. RCB needs him to play a big innings just like how he played against Lions last year. As two overseas bowling did not work so well in the game against KKR and also in the need of strength the batting line-up, RCB might prefer Travis Head for this game ahead of Shane Watson. Kedar Jadhav was found his form back against Lions last week, scored only 9 runs against KKR. This could be his chances to help the team to win the matches.

As lack of all rounders in RCB squad, Stuart Binny would get an another chance possibly against Lions. He used to play useful cameos in some of the matches this season, but failed to convert into big scores. He could bowl useful short spells with his medium-fast bowling action too. Pawan Negi bowled so well for RCB in last few innings. He picked 1 for 21 against Lions in the last met and also picked 2/15 against KKR. He would keep his place safe and expected him to contribute with bat too. RCB played with leg spinner Samuel Badree and fast bowler Tymal Mills in the game against KKR, but as chances are high for Travis Head to play in this game – either Mills or Badree would be misses out. Badree has got hat-trick at this venue 10 days ago, that may be his advantage to stay in the lineup. Wicket taking bowler of RCB, Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a brilliant spell against KKR on Sunday. His spell of 3 for 16 in 4 overs was one of the main reason for RCB to bowled our KKR in that game. He is a major impact bowler of RCB. Sreenath Aravind gone too expensive against Lions where he gave away 53 runs in 4 overs. He also gave 27 runs in 3.3 overs against KKR. But, RCB’s inexperienced Indian pace bowling attack would allow Aravind to keep his place in the team. If the team goes with a change, either Harshal Patel or Aniket Choudhary would get a chance in the team. Also the continues failure of Mandeep Singh might opens the gate for Sachin Baby. He played only a game in this season, he might come back to the XI on Thursday.

GUJARAT LIONS :

Dwayne Bravo’s withdrawal from the season is considered as a big set back for Lions. But they found a replacement quickly and they added Indian all rounder Irfan Pathan into the squad. His inclusion would definitely strengthen the bowling attack of Lions. Gujarat Lions who are at bottom of the table, has 4 points with their 2 wins in the season. Their Net Run Rate of -0.844 is the second lowest in the competition so far. Bowling attack are the biggest concern for Gujarat Lions in this season. Lions had made 4 changes in their last match against KXIP. Akshdeep Nath, Shubham Agarwal and Nathu Singh are the players who made their IPL debut in that game. Among them, Nathu Singh was impressive in that game, but unfortunately he was injured in that game and bowled only 2 overs for the team. He picked 1 for 7 in his 2 overs spell. If he back to fitness, then he would get an another chance in the XI. Shubham Agarwal was expensive in that game, he leaked 42 runs in 4 overs and picked a wicket. He has some chances to retain his place in the XI against RCB. Akshdeep Nath who replaced Ishan Kishan in the XI, lost his wicket for the first ball he faced. That indicates Ishan Kishan would be back in the XI for this game.

Basil Thampi continuously gets a chance in the Lions XI. But his performances in the last few matches were not upto the mark, he gave away 44 runs each in last 2 innings and picked only 1 wicket. Suddenly his place is in danger, he may makes a way for Irfan Pathan. Andrew Tye was back in the XI against KXIP and he bowled well in that game. He would keep his place safe against RCB on Thursday. The in-form batsman Brendon McCullum could be a key factor for Lions in this game. He scored 49, 64, 72 and 33 runs in consecutive innings, before he got out for 6 runs in the last game. He got out early in just one game, he could back to big knock at Chinnaswamy stadium where he scored 154 runs in the very first match of IPL season 1. Aaron Finch starts well, but yet to reach his first half-century of the season. Chances for him to make a way for England’s Jason Roy who are in amazing form and disturbed with lack of chances in Lions lineup.

Suresh Raina, the captain of the team was in very good touch when he led his team to the victory against KKR last week. He scored match winning 84 off 46 balls against KKR and also started well and scored 32 off 24 balls against KXIP in the last game. He is a pillar of Lions batting and expect him to live up to the expectations. Wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik found back his rhythm in the last game and he fought till the end for his team. He managed to score unbeaten 58 off 44 balls in that game. Lions needs him to fire-up in the middle overs and end overs of Lions batting innings. After scoring match winning 47 runs in the 3rd match, Dwayne Smith is still struggling to score runs for the Lions. Heavy chances for him to make a way for James Faulkner. If team management decides to go with both Finch and Roy, Smith would make a way for Roy in this game. The star all rounder of the team Ravindra Jadeja was failed to bowl impressive spells in the season. He finally bowled some better spell against KXIP where he picked 1 for 32 in 4 overs. Team needs him to come with bowling spell and also score runs for the team. Either Dhawal Kulkarni or Praveen Kumar would make a way to the team on Thursday.
