IPL – MATCH 24 – SUPERGIANTS VS SUNRISERS – FANTASY CRICKET PREVIEW

After losing three matches in a row, Rising Pune Supergiants finally had some come back when they defeated RCB by 27 runs on last Sunday. Now, they had well useful time-off of five days and shifts their focus on defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in their third home match this season. The 24th match between Rising Pune Supergiants vs Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled to start at 4 PM IST | 10:30 AM GMT on Saturday, 22nd April 2017.

RISING PUNE SUPERGIANTS :

Steve Smith captaining Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) are at 7th in the points table at the moment. They started the season with a good win against MI. Then after, Supergiants had faced 3 consecutive losses in a row and all of them were huge defeats. Finally they had come back performances against RCB and all round performances from the team gifted them a second win of the season and pulled up them from bottom of the table to no. 7. With 2 wins and 4 points, RPS equals with Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore. But, the poor Net Run Rate of -0.942 holds them at second bottom in the table. To come out from that position and to rise up in the points table, RPS needs to maintain the momentum which they got in the game against RCB and win matches consistently. After struggled in 3 innings continuously, Ajinkya Rahane had a good start in the last game against RCB along with his new opening partner Rahul Tripathi. Both the openers had a good time out in the middle and scored 63 runs for the first wicket. Rahane managed to score 30 runs off 25 balls, he is expected to be back in form and score runs for his team in this match on Saturday. Rahul Tripathi who are new to IPL, made an impression with two back-to-back knocks. He scored quick 33 runs against Lions, then he played an another good knock against RCB by scored 31 runs. As RPS suffered with opening combination, he could be a good found and he needs to carry on his form in further matches.

Captain Steven Smith started the season with match winning knock of unbeaten 84 runs. After that he managed to contribute with runs for his team. In last game he scored 27 off 24 balls. He is a pillar of RPS’s batting order and he should come with big innings against strong Sunrisers. Former captain of India, MS Dhoni was promoted to no. 4 in the last game. In the past 4 innings, he managed to score only 33 runs, so everyone’s eyes were on him and he delivered somehow well against RCB. He was not played quick fire innings, but gave some useful contributions of 28 off 25 balls with 3 fours and a gigantic six. He is in a position to perform for the team and finish the innings in high note. Manoj Tiwary, playing a different part of game in this year. He used to play more defensive in the past, but started to hit the ball and surprises all with quick scoring. He scored 40 against KXIP and 31 against Lions. In that game against RCB, he played a stunning cameo of 27 runs off just 11 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes). The team wants him to play similar kind of role once again in the clash against Sunrisers. England All Rounder Ben Stokes managed to only half-century in his five IPL innings for RPS. He missed out for just 2 runs in the last game, but he came with big spell of 3 for 18 in 4 overs which turned the match into RPS’s favor. He struggled to pick wickets and gone expensive in first 4 matches, then he found a form in last game. Hopefully his all round performances could lifts RPS against SRH.

Daniel Christian got a chance to play in place of Lockie Ferguson, but he was not too impressive with either bat or bowl. He scored only 1 run and bowled wicket less spell. Based on a pitch and conditions, team management will decide whether to go with Christian or some other else. If he drops, Adam Zampa has chances if pitch supports spinners. In case, RPS want to strengthen their batting, then either Faf du Plessis or Usman Khawaja could get a chance in the XI. While comes to bowling attack, Imran Tahir continued his good work against RCB. He picked a wicket for 27 runs in 4 overs. That was his 8th wicket in the season for RPS. The new pace combination of Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat worked out well for RPS in that game vs RCB. Both pacers gave their best efforts and shared 5 wickets among them. Unadkat bowled a good spell and picked 2 for 25 in 4 overs. Shardul who bowled 1 for 14 against Lions, bowled once again well and picked 3 for 35 in 4 overs against RCB. This might be a combination which RPS looked for, so chances are high for these two to continue the role vs SRH.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD :

Sunrisers Hyderabad, the defending champions are at no. 3 in the points table after played 6 matches in the season so far. They have won all 4 home matches till now in this year’s competition and earned 8 points to be at 3rd position. Based on net run rate, Sunrisers are bit down than KKR in the table. The return of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and his partnership along with Shikhar Dhawan gave a fourth victory in the season for SRH. Kane Williamson who was overlooked and omitted in the first five matches, finally got a chance to play a game for SRH on Wednesday against DD. One of the best in the world around, Williamson made a point straightaway with his scores of 89 runs off 51 balls. He smashed 6 fours and 5 big sixes in that game. He replaced Mohammad Nabi in the XI for DD clash. Captain David Warner who known as the pillar of SRH’s batting unit done an wonderful job by scoring 70+ runs twice in the season and also scored 49 vs MI. He dismissed for just 4 runs in the last match vs DD, but we could fire-up with his batting on any time.

Shikhar Dhawan who used to take time to settle down in the middle in this season, managed to score 40+ scores twice in first 5 innings. On Wednesday against DD, he successfully passed 50 runs mark and scored his first half-century of the season. He batted well along with Williamson and posted 136 runs for the 2nd wicket. He got out for well made 70 runs in that game which includes 7 fours and a six. He could be dangerous player once he settle down in the middle and hope for him to play another good knock on Saturday. Fans favorite Yuvraj Singh had a beautiful start in the season with 62 runs off 27 balls in the opening match. Since that game, Yuvraj is struggling to score runs and that continued on Wednesday too. He managed to score only 3 runs, but he done his job well when he surprised all with his one over spell. That over was the game changer for SRH, where DD lost their momentum with 2 quick wickets. Yuvraj still stays at top and could score runs at any moment in the season. Deepak Hooda and Moises Henriques played a little cameo and finished the innings well for SRH in that game.

Mohammad Siraj who sold to SRH for Rs. 2+ crore in auction this year, played his debut match on Wednesday night. He was impressive on his debut game and picked 2 for 39 in 4 overs spell. Now, chances are high for him to get an another chance when they faces RPS on Saturday. For the first time in the season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a wicket-less spell against DD on Wednesday. He picked 15 wickets in first 5 matches and holds Purple Cap strongly at the moment. He is a key bowler of SRH and no doubt on that part. Siddharth Kaul, the new man in SRH squad played an amazing for the second straight time for the team. He had responsibilities when bowled last over of the innings for a second time in a row and justified his captain’s decision. He bowled so well under pressure in both matches that keeps him a place in XI for sure. The leg spinner Rashid Khan who picked 9 wickets in first 5 innings of IPL career, remained wicket-less for the first time and that came against DD. He is well talented and he has bright chances to pick more wickets in the game against RPS. As Kane Williamson is back and performed, Nabi and other overseas would get a chance in the XI for this game. Most probably SRH will go with an unchanged XI for this game vs RPS.
