IPL – MATCH 22 – KINGS XI PUNJAB VS MUMBAI INDIANS – FANTASY CRICKET PREVIEW!

After playing three away matches in a row, Kings XI Punjab are back to Indore to play their 3rd home match of the season. On Thursday night, Kings XI will hosts the in-form Mumbai Indians and this could be a must win game for the home team as they looks to go ahead in the points table. The 22nd Match between Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians is scheduled to begin at 8 PM IST | 2:30 PM GMT on Thursday, 20th April, 2017.

KINGS XI PUNJAB :

Glenn Maxwell and the team started the season with back-to-back wins at Indore, then they lost three matches in a row and all of those were away matches. As back to Indore, KXIP might regain their confidence and looks to back in winning ways again. Right now, KXIP are at no. 5 in the points table with 4 points and their NRR gone down to -0.302. KXIP lost their most recent match to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 runs on Monday night. Manan Vohra’s splendid knock was the positive point for KXIP in that game. Mohit Sharma struggled to pick wickets and also bowled very expensive spells in first four matches. Finally he got some form back and done it well against SRH. He picked 2 for 25 in that match and that was the best bowling effort for KXIP in that game. Ishant Sharma who played for SRH in the past, got an opportunity to play against his former franchise and bowled well economical spell. He did not pick any wicket against SRH, but bowled at under 6 RPO.

Sandeep Sharma who generally bowl well for KXIP, bowled well in first three matches. But, bowled expensive spells in the last 2 matches. He needs find his form back and strikes early to ensure the win for his team. Kariappa played his second game in the season vs SRH and he gone bit expensive. He bowled at almost 10 RPO for 1 wicket, his place might be in question – if he is not playing against Mumbai Indians, either Pardeep Sahu or an all rounder Gurkeerat Singh would get a chance to be in playing XI. The wicket-taker of the team, Axar Patel is doing his job in very well manner. He picked another 2 wickets against SRH and those were came in his very first 2 ball of the innings. After those early wickets, Axar failed to keep that momentum in that game and finished with 2 for 33 in his 4 overs. The team needs him to deliver again with his bowling skills and also play crucial knocks when ever it needed. Among the batting performances of KXIP batsmen, opener Hashim Amla lost his wicket on very first ball that he faced against SRH. Amla scored 28 and 58 runs respectively in the first 2 matches. Then he started to struggles for runs, hope for him to be back strong on Thursday.

Manan Vohra was on his best when he scored 95 off 50 vs SRH on Monday. He was the only batsman who took his team close to the win on that day. Vohra used to start well in the previous matches, but failed to convert into big scores. But he overcame on that and scored 95 runs in last innings. Hopefully he could continue his form vs MI. Captain of the team Glenn Maxwell smashed the ball all over the park in first 3 matches. In their 4th match, he got out for 0 and in the last match he managed to score only 10 runs. Sudden change in his form affects KXIP’s run. Maxwell needs to regain his form and play power pack innings against the strong MI. David Miller’s poor run in IPL continues, he managed to score 83 runs in four innings that he played and got out for only 1 run against SRH. Eoin Morgan managed to score 22 and 13 runs in the last 2 matches, he also needs to play good knocks for the team, or else he will be dropped from the XI. Wicket Keeper Saha done a great job with gloves work. His catches and stumping are at his best, but he is need to score runs for the team. Axar Patel played a good knock against DD, but KXIP expects lots more good cameos from him in the end overs. As experienced campaigner Shaun Marsh is still in KXIP squad, he has chances to replace either Amla or Morgan in upcoming matches. Chances are less for him to make appearance vs MI, but he could get his chances in the tournament.

MUMBAI INDIANS :

The team in form, Mumbai Indians had a good break of 3 days after winning 4 matches in a row in just 8 days time. Now, they are at no. 2 in the points table with 8 points at NRR of +0.302. KKR also has 8 points, but based on better NRR, KKR are leading the table at the moment. Rohit Sharma, captain of the team struggled for form in first 4 matches and scored only single digits in those innings. Then, he came back with match winning 40 not out against GL on Sunday and that could be the relief for MI. They have won 3 out of those 4 matches at home, as they are going to play away encounter vs KXIP, they need to keep their momentum high with their performances. Left-handed batsman Nitish Rana’s form is a biggest key factor for MI. He is a find of the season for the franchise. Rana smashed 2 half-centuries and 45 runs already in 5 innings that he played. He scored 193 runs in 5 innings and also earned Man of the Match awards in two different occasions.

Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler continued to open the innings for MI in all 5 matches. They were in good touch in first few matches, but their partnership became not so impressive in last 2 matches. Parthiv managed to score only 3 runs in last 2 innings. Buttler scored 26 against Lions, but there was not much power hitting from him in that game. As Rohit Sharma indicates that he loves to open the innings for MI, chances are there for him to open the innings. In that case, Jos Buttler might move down to no. 4 in the order. Kieron Pollard’s batting was extraordinary in the last 2 matches. He won the game for his side against RCB by scoring 70 runs off 47 balls. He also put up a good partnership along with Rohit and helped the side to win a game vs Lions too. He scored 39 off 23 in that game. He could be nightmare for the opponents once he settles in the middle.

Pandya brothers Hardik and Krunal are giving their best for the team in each matches. Inform all rounder Krunal Pandya played crucial knocks for MI this season. He scored 37 off 20 balls against SRH last week, also scored 37 not out against RCB. With bowl also he produces a good contribution for his team. He bowled well economical spells in last 4 innings and also picked 4 wickets to his credit. Hardik Pandya also giving his all round performances for the team. MI used to go with 3 pacers and 1 spinner as a specialist bowlers. Most experienced Harbhajan Singh bowls very well in this year competition, where he used to bowl at under 6 RPO in last 3 innings. Jasprit Bumrah picked 3 wicket haul against SRH, after that he bowled expensive and wicket less spells in last 2 matches. MI’s leading spearhead Lasith Malinga also bowls expensive overs in this year. He picked 4 wickets in 3 innings, but bowled over 9 RPO in all those innings. Mitchell McClenaghan who struggled in first 3 matches, came back strong in last 2 and bowled well economical spells. He picked 2 for 20 vs RCB and also picked 2 for 24 vs GL in 3 days time. Bumrah and Malinga are expected to keep their places and bowl well in the game against KXIP on Thursday. Not much of changes are expected in the lineup of MI.
