RISING PUNE SUPERGIANTS:

This is going to be the second IPL season for this Pune based franchise. Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) is very keen to lift the trophy this time after losing their inaugural season by placed at 7th in the table last year. RPS decided to change their captain and they announced Australian skipper Steve Smith as a New Captain of the team. Of course, former Indian Captain MS Dhoni led the team last season and now he is going to concentrate on his batting and gloves work without any tensions about captaincy. RPS bought English All Rounder Ben Stokes for the high of Rs. 14+ Crores in the Auction back in February and he is all set make his IPL debut in this season.  RPS has plenty on International stars on their squad, they are Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis, Ben Stokes, Imran Tahir, Usman Khawaja, Adam Zampa and Daniel Christian. They also have Indian talents like MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur, Ashok Dinda, Mayank Agarwal, Baba Aparajith and Ishwar Pandey.

Ajinkya Rahane is expected to open the innings for RPS along with Faf du Plessis. Rahane used to play as an opener for Rajasthan Royals in past seasons and he also done the same for RPS in last season. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis also opened the innings for CSK and opened the innings for RPS in last season. Both of them are well experienced batsman on IPL circuit and expects them to play a handy knocks for RPS on Thursday. Captain Steve Smith was in prime form throughout the season for his national team and he is expected to hurt the oppositions with his masterclass batting in this season. Once he use to score runs on Thursday, he will lift his side to mammoth total. Mayank Agarwal is also in the squad who used to bat at top order. In case RPS decides to use him as an opener, Faf du Plessis would bat at no. 4, but chances are less for that to happen on Thursday. Usman Khawaja, Baba Aparajith and Manoj Tiwary are the other batsmen who are in the group. Aparajith is yet to make his IPL debut, he was in great form during Tamil Nadu Premier League last year and also done well in domestic season. Manoj Tiwary led his team Bengal well in recent Vijay Hazare Trophy and he also done well with bat in the middle order.

Former Skipper of Indian team as well as RPS, MS Dhoni would be a biggest strength in RPS’s middle-order, the power-hitting wicket-keeper has plenty of things to for the team in this season. Costliest overseas buy in IPL history, All Rounder Ben Stokes is ready to deliver his all round performances for RPS on Thursday. He was done so well for England throughout the season and expects him to provide his best with both bat and bowl in each match. The veteran uncapped player Rajat Bhatia played maximum of matches for RPS in last season and he is expected to play on Thursday too. He used to perform well in few matches last season. As he is 38-years old, chances are high for RPS to give chances to younger players in the squad to fulfill all rounders role. T20 specialist all rounder Daniel Christian is in the squad along with Indian uncapped allrounders Milind Tandon and Rahul Tripathi. Daniel Christian’s chances to be Playing XI are less for Thursday, but he would get his chances once the tournament progress on. RPS has two leg-spinners in their squad, experienced Imran Tahir and Adam Zampa would fight for one spot in the XI on Thursday. Both of them are talented and it’s would be a tough job for RPS to go with. Apart from these two overseas bowlers, RPS also has New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson in their squad. Indian bowlers Ashok Dinda, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishwar Pandey are in the squad to handle pace bowling duties along with Shardul Thakur who came to RPS from Kings XI Punjab after the auction. Left-arm spinner Ankit Sharma, Saurabh Kumar, Jaskaran Singh and Deepak Chahar are the other bowlers in the squad.

Captain of the team, Rohit Sharma’s availability was the biggest question mark for the past few weeks, but he declared fit to play and he will play on Thursday. He was sidelined for almost 6 months due to injuries and now he is way back to lead the Mumbai Indians side. The shorter format opening batsman will open the innings once again for Mumbai Indians and he is expected to open the innings along with either Parthiv Patel or Lendl Simmons. Parthiv Patel generally used to open the innings in IPL and he is the first choice opener for Mumbai Indians based on the form he is in for past several months. Lendl Simmons was a part of West Indies T20 squad which played against Pakistan until last Sunday. He scored only 7 runs in 4 innings in that series, that means his poor form keep him away from the selection on Thursday.

Ambati Rayudu, who done so well for MI in the past is set to do the same once again in this 10th Season too. He is a pillar of the team in middle-order and managed to take team home in many occasions. He would be a dangerous player and he could give you an useful fantasy points. The young talented wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran should wait for his turn in the tournament. Siddhesh Lad, Saurabh Tiwary, Nitish Rana and Jitesh Sharma are the back up batsmen in the squad of Mumbai Indians. The biggest star of Mumbai Indians middle-order Kieron Pollard is expected to deliver with both bat and bowl for Mumbai Indians just like he done in the past seasons for the franchise. He used to win matches for MI single handedly and he done those in many different occasions in the past. He was not in a great form against Pakistan in recent T20I series, but he is expected to play well on Thursday. Pandya brothers would get place in playing XI on Thursday and both the all rounders are expected to deliver with both bat and bowl for MI. Krunal Pandya had a dream debut season last year, where he performed with both bat and bowl and he was in a great form in recent domestic season. That form would help him to shine once again. Hardik Pandya who sidelined for past few weeks due to injury, is back with fitness and he is expected to play useful knocks for his team. He had poor season last year, he is in a position to deliver the goods and proves his worth in the team.

He is in his best form and he has chances to get name in Playing XI once the tournament progress on. Shreyas Gopal, Deepak Punia and Krishnappa Gowtham are the other all rounders in the squad on MI. He has played 125 matches for Mumbai Indians and he leads the table as most capped player of MI. Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah who got a chance to play for the national team by performing well for MI in IPL seasons, is ready to play an another season for the franchise this year. He would be a key bowler for MI. As Lasith Malinga is being a part Sri Lanka’s T20 squad and playing against Bangladesh right now, he will misses the first match of the season on Thursday. Malinga will play a key role for MI once he joins the squad on April 8. On the absence of Malinga, New Zealand’s Tim Southee has chances to play along with Mitchell Johnson.
