KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS :

After played two away in the first week of IPL – 10, finally stage is set for Kolkata Knight Riders to begin their home season at Eden Gardens with a match against Kings XI Punjab. KKR started with a season with a tremendous win against Gujarat Lions, where they chased a target of 184 runs within 15 overs and without losing any wicket. But, they lost to Mumbai Indians in their second match and lost it by 4 wickets in the thrilling last over. Man of the Match of the first match of KKR, Chris Lynn injured his shoulder when he fielded against Mumbai Indians on last Sunday. He injured the same shoulder for the 3rd time in 18 months. As he is not available for this game and his availability for the rest of the tournament are uncertain, KKR are already in some sort bad position. KKR also has some good news and they welcomed Indian spearhead Umesh Yadav ahead of their first home match. Umesh Yadav, who was sidelined due to small injury and over workload for the national side for past few months, is back and he is ready to play straightaway at the Eden Gardens.

Not only Chris Lynn, the captain of the side Gautam Gambhir also played an amazing knock against Gujarat Lions. One of the top most opening batsman of IPL, Gambhir started the season with a blistering 76 off 48 balls not out. Then, he started well once again in the second match against MI. But, unfortunately he lost his wicket and not able to convert the good start into big score. As Lynn is not available, Gambhir’s responsibility has been increased and he is expected to cope up with the expectations. Robin Uthappa is likely to get back into the openers slot after the injury of Lynn. As Gambhir and Lynn finished the game on their own in the first game, Uthappa and rest of the batting unit did not get a chance to bat. Uthappa failed to score runs vs MI, where he fell only for 4 runs. Manish Pandey played a scintillating innings against MI and scored 81 off 47 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. That shows the form he is in and expected to carry forward his form once again. Yusuf Pathan is yet to make an impression with both bat and bowl. Hope for him to play a good knock at KKR’s home ground on Thursday. Middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav managed to score 17 runs in final overs.

All rounder from England, Chris Woakes was expensive in the first match and remained wicket less, he gone over 8 runs per over in the second match as well but managed to pick a wicket. He is yet to shine with bat too. As he proved his worth in limited overs and shorter formats so many times, Woakes could surprises you at any moment with big spells. As Trent Boult gone too much expensive in both occasions, chances are less for him to play on Thursday. KKR gone with triple spin attack against Lions in the first game. Lead spin bowler Sunil Narine, leg spinner Piyush Chawla and Kuldeev Yadav were played in that game. Among three of them Kuldeep Yadav bowled a good spell and picked 2 for 25 in 4 overs. Chawla and Narine bowled at over 8 runs per over. In the second game, Sunil Narine bowled a good spell of 1 for 22 in 4 overs. Chawla was dropped and Ankit Rajpoot played a game. Rajpoot picked 3 wickets in that match for KKR. As Umesh Yadav is returning Ankit Rajpoot might makes a way for him. Chris Lynn has been ruled out for this game, that opens the gate for Shakib Al Hasan and he would play in the middle order. Colin de Grandhomme also has chances to replace expensive Trent Boult.

KINGS XI PUNJAB :

After IPL – 7 in 2014, Kings XI Punjab has started the season in a positive way in this season. The Head Coach of the team Virender Shewag asked the team to play fearless and aggressive cricket and that the exactly what they did in the first 2 matches. Brand new captain of the side, Glenn Maxwell played a stunning knocks in both matches and led his team to victory. With those two crushing wins, KXIP are at no. 2 in the table with 4 points. KXIP played with Hashim Amla and Manan Vohra at opening spot in first 2 matches and it would continue in upcoming matches too. Amla scored 28 runs against RPS, then played a match winning knock of 58 off 38 balls against RCB on Monday. His partner Manan Vohra managed to score 14 runs in the first game and played a better knock in the last game. He scored 34 runs in that game and both of them puts up 62 runs for the first wicket. Bowling all rounder Axar Patel promoted to no. 4 in the first game and then came at no. 3 in the second. He managed to score 22 runs vs RPS, 9 vs RCB. With the bowl, Axar done a clean job for his team. He picked 1 for 27 in their first match and then bowled an amazing spell of 1 for 12 in 4 overs against RCB on Monday. He might be promote once again in the batting order and his bowling its an asset for KXIP.

Captain Glenn Maxwell played a quick fire knock of 44 off just 20 balls with 2 fours and 4 huge sixes against RPS and gave the team a big victory. Then he played an another quick knock of 43 off 22 balls and this time it was against RCB. He remained not out in both occasions and his current form is an warning for the opposition. Wicket keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha played at no. 3 against RPS and managed to score 14 runs. He does a good job with his gloves work, but he needs to play a big innings for his team in upcoming matches. An another explosive batsman in the unit, David Miller also remained not out against RPS and scored 30 off 27 balls. He did not get an opportunity to bat against RCB. He is a key player of KXIP in the past 4 seasons and no changes in this season too. All rounder Marcus Stoinis bowled 3 overs spell in both occasions and gone over 9 runs per over in both matches. He did not get a chance to bat in both the matches, hopefully he retains his place in the XI on Thursday. While look at the bowling unit of KXIP, Sandeep Sharma is the main wicket taking bowler of the team. He picked 2 for 33 against RPS in first match and bowled more better economical spell vs RCB, where he picked 1/26 in 4 overs.

Mohit Sharma bowled at 8.50 runs per over vs RPS, then he bowled much more expensive spell of 0 for 47 in 4 overs vs RCB. He remained wicketless in both matches and that indicates his chances to be in the XI are reduced already. Varun Aaron replaced Swapnil Singh in the last match and bowled a good spell of 2/21 in 4 overs. After that good spell, Aaron is expected to keep his place in the XI vs KKR. T Natarajan who played his debut match vs RPS picked 3 for 26 in that game and bowled only one over in the second game. As Eden Gardens supports spinners, Natarajan has chances to be sit out on Thursday. Some sort of chances for Darren Sammy to be playing XI by replacing Marcus Stoinis vs KKR. Also as Ishant Sharma is in the squad, he might replaces Mohit Sharma in this encounter. If T Natarajan drops, then Pardeep Sahu might get a game on Thursday.
