In Pakistan Super League – season 2, the defending champions Islamabad Unites face-off with Lahore Qalandars on Monday for the second time in the season. This is the 14th match of the season and the last league match in Sharjah leg. The match between Islamabad United vs Lahore Qalandars is scheduled to start at 8 PM Local (U.A.E.) | 9:30 PM IST on Monday, 20th February 2017.



The defending champions are at no. 2 in points table at the moment after that nail-baiting win over Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday. Today’s match is going to be sixth match in the season for Islamabad United. In five matches they had played, United have won 3 and lost 2. With total of 6 points and the net run rate of -0.098, United are behind Quetta Gladiators in the table at 2nd spot. West Indian All rounder Dwayne Smith is most consistent top-order player for United in this season. His scores are 55, 31, 10, 29 and 72 so far. Another in-form overseas batsman in United squad, Sam Billings is not available for remaining part of the PSL season, he left to England to join the national squad. On the absence of Sam Billings, his England counter part Ben Duckett is expected to replaces him in the XI vs Lahore Qalandars. The veteran batsman Rafatullah Mohmand has joined the squad last week as a replacement player for Sharjeel Khan and he played against Zalmi on Saturday. In that game, he opened the innings and scored 11 runs. He is expected to get one more chance in the top order. Australia’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin, started the tournament with firing knock of 73 off 39 balls and then he scored 9, 6, 6 and 2 runs respectively in next 4 innings. As Sam Billings has left, he is the only wicket-keeper option that United has now. Therefore, Haddin would play vs Qalandars.

An Experienced all rounder from Australia, Shane Watson also in good form with both bat and bowl. He picked 7 wickets in 5 outings and best figure was 4 for 44. He also scored 125 runs in those 5 innings. If he comes up in the order, he could score lot more runs. Skipper of the team, another veteran batsman Misbah ul Haq has scored 61*, 10, 16 and 5 in four innings he batted. The middle-order batsman is expected to play better innings in upcoming matches and once he back in form that would help his side for sure. All rounder Shadab Khan, the 18-year old bowled well against Zalmi on other night and picked 2 for 26. That bowling effort might keep his place safe in the XI on Monday. United used to rotate their players for one spot, Imran Khalid, Amad Butt, Asif Ali and Zohaib Khan are the players who fought that place in the XI. Amad Butt played against Zalmi on Saturday, expected him to make a way for Imran Khalid or Zohaib Khan. Among bowlers, experienced fast bowler Mohammad Sami leads the bowling attack with his pace and variations. He has picked 8 wickets in 5 innings and his best bowling effort was came against Zalmi in the last game, where he picked 3 for 26. Pace bowlers Rumman Raees and Mohammad Irfan are supporting him very well. Rumman Raees in particular, bowling well with economical spells. Raees is expected to keep his place safe on Monday. Mohammad Irfan picked 5 wickets in 4 innings he played. His bowling spell of 2 for 7 was outstanding against Karachi Kings 2 days ago. Saeed Ajmal is also in the squad, he is expected to sit in the bench once again.



Just like last year, Qalandars are at bottom of the table at the moment with 4 points after played 5 matches. Qalandars has won 2 matches and lost 3. Qalandars has positive advantage when they meet United on Monday, because Qalandars defeated United in the first meeting of the season. Experienced and ex-skipper of New Zealand, Brendon McCullum and co. are expecting much better performances from the whole team to advance to next round in the tournament. The most in-form batter in the side, Jason Roy would not available for Monday game and he will not be available for remaining part of the season as he already left to England to join his national squad. Roy has scored 27, 60*, 9, 26 and 51 in five innings he played. Qalandars would miss him at top of the order for sure. After scoring just 20, 25 and two duck outs in a row, captain McCullum was decided to come down in the order and allowed the inform domestic batsman from Pakistan Fakhar Zaman to open the innings for Qalandars. On the absence of Roy, McCullum is expected to back in top and open the innings for his team. Fakhar Zaman is in amazing form and Qalandars needs him to continue the form through out the season. He scored 33, 56 and 47 in last 3 innings. An experienced wicket-keeper batsman Umar Akmal has scored 25, 35 and 17 in 3 innings and also got out for 0 in two occasions. Lot of responsibilities on Akmal’s shoulders and he needs to respond well in upcoming matches.

Mohammad Rizwan started to play well and he scored 29 and 46* in last 2 innings. Suddenly, he turned out as main batsman of the team and he is expected to play one more quick innings on Monday night. South African all rounder Cameron Delport has replaced Grant Elliott in last match and performed well with bat. He scored 35 off 21 runs and also picked a wicket. He is expected to retain his place in XI. As Jason Roy is not available, Grant Elliott is expected to back in the XI. Emerging all rounder, magical spinner Sunil Narine contributes well with both bat and bowl in this season. The 28-years old picked 7 wickets in 5 matches and also scored 70 runs with bat. He and the leg spinner Yasir Shah are expected to be a trump card of Qalandars against United on Monday. Uncapped Mohammad Irfan Jnr, the right arm bowler picked 7 wickets in the tournament with the best of 3/26. Experienced pace bowler Sohail Tanvir would lead the pace attack once again which contains Mohammad Irfan and Bilawal Bhatti. Tanvir picked 8 wickets so far, but he gone expensive in few innings. He is expected to bowl much better spell on Monday.

As Billings is not available, Ben Duckett is expected to replaces him. Duckett used to wicket-keeping works in domestic matches. In case, United decides to give gloves work to Duckett and drops Brad Haddin, Leg-spinner Samuel Badree might get an opportunity to play his first game in the season. Then, domestic batsman in the squad Hussain Talat or others would do batsman duty in the middle-order.

On the absence of Roy, Grant Elliott is expected to back in the XI. Another New Zealand All rounder James Franklin also has chances to replace Roy in the XI.
