New Zealand’s own domestic one-day tournament called ‘FORD TROPHY‘ hosting it’s 6th season currently. The tournament has total of 24 – regular season matches and 4 knock out matches. After the conclusion of 18 matches, Wellington Firebirds leads the points table with 16 points. Knight are at second position with 15 points. Central Stags are the team who at bottom of the table with just 6 points. As, 7th round of matches takes the field on Saturday, Central Stags hosts a game against Knights. The match is scheduled to start at 11 AM Local | 3:30 AM IST on Saturday, 4th February.
The home team for this game, Central Stags are at bottom of the table with 6 points as of now. After playing 6 matches, Stags has won only one game and lost 4. The last game was abandoned after Stags started it so well. Stags met Otago Volts in last weekend in their 5th game of the season. Except Ajaz Patel, all other bowlers gone bit expensive in that game but still managed to bowled out the opponents for 287 runs. Liam Dudding picked 3 wickets, Ajaz Patel and Tickner shared 2 each. While chasing a challenging target, Will Young was the only batsman who scored half-century in the innings. Josh Clarkson’s 44, Navin Patel’s 37 and Ajaz Patel’s 31 were handy for Stags but it was not enough to chased down the target successfully. Stags were bowled out for 264 and lost the game by 23 runs. Top order failed was the main reason for that loss against Volts. In the last game, Stags met Table topper Firebirds two days ago. That game ended in no result due to rain. Before the rain damages the play, Stags were started well. Opener cum all rounder, George Worker played an amazing innings and remained unbeaten for 80 off 90 balls and Stags were at 150 for 2 in 30 overs. Will Young played one more good knock in that game. Those are such a positive for Stags at this moment. Stags brought in Ben Wheeler and Seth Rance on the expenses of Navin Patel and Liam Dudding. Jesse Ryder’s form at the top is big worry for Stags. Ryder proved his talents for years and he could come back to form at any moment. He could get his chances, therefore unchanged XI are expected to play.
Knights has 3 wins and 3 losses to their credits so far in the tournament till now. With 3 wins and good Net Run Rate of +0.685, Knights are ahead of Auckland Aces and sitting at no. 2 with 15 points. Knights crushed the table topper Wellington Firebirds on last week and won that game by huge margin of 135 runs. With the help of Nicholas Fredrick Kelly’s 118, Knights posted 285 runs in 50 overs. All Rounder Scott Kuggeleijn’s all round efforts also helped the side to earn a big win. Kuggeleijn scored 30 runs in just 20 balls and also picked 3 for 34 in his 8 overs. Bowler Jono Boult also picked 3 wicket in that game. But, in the last game Knights failed to chased down the target and they were short of just 2 runs. Knights faces Canterbury Kings in that game and Kings posted 275 for 7 wickets in 50 overs. All Rounder Scott Kuggeleijn came with brilliant bowling spell once again and picked 3 for 29 in 10 overs. But as other bowlers gone expensive, Knights allowed their opponents to post 275 runs. Joe Carter came into that side on the absence of Dean Brownlie (he joined with NZ squad) and he scored only 5 runs. Wicket Keeper Tim Seifert’s brilliant knock of 104 off just 87 balls in vein as Knights bowled out just two runs short in the final over. As it was a close game, the XI might get another chance and the same XI are expected to play against Central Stags on Saturday.
