FORD TROPHY – CENTRAL STAGS VS AUCKLAND ACES – PREVIEW!

The on-going domestic one-day tournament of New Zealand, Ford Trophy – 2017 is reached the final round of league matches before moving into Knock-out round. As the tournament hosts all 3 matches of the round on same time, it hosts three matches on Wednesday. In one of those matches, Central Stags battles with Auckland Aces at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth. The match between Central Stags vs Auckland Aces is scheduled to start at 11 AM Local | 3:30 AM IST on Wednesday, 8th February, 2017.

 

CENTRAL STAGS :

Central Stags are heading into this home encounter with the huge record-setting win on their back. Win margin of huge 227 runs in the last match kept Stags chances in the knock-out round. Central Stags are at bottom second in the points table with 10 points. They won only 2 matches in 7 attempts and lost 4. One match was ended in no-result. Stags lost four out of 5 matches and then started to show lot of characters in last 2 matches. On last Wednesday, Stags met Wellington Firebirds in Wellington. That match was ended in no-result, but before the rain came Stags were in good position in that game. They scored 150 for 2 in 30 overs. The all-rounder and opening batsman George Worker batted superbly and remained not out for 80 runs. Captain Will Young also performed well and scored 44 runs in that game.

Stags carry forward that positive batting approach into the next game when they met Knights on last Saturday. The opening All-rounder George Worker batted fantastically and came with big ton. He scored mammoth 181 runs in 143 balls with 19 fours and 7 sixes. His opening partner Jesse Ryder also batted well and he scored 85 runs in just 63 deliveries. Their captain Will Young also joined the party with quick-fire 87 runs. The top three took the team to mammoth total of 401 runs in 50 overs. Rest of the batting order were fumbled and Stags lost 6 wickets for 26 runs in the end. While defending the huge target, the bowlers of Stags reacted so well and bowled out the opponents for just 174 runs. George Worker, who turn as hero with batting performances, turned as most wicket-taker in the innings with his bowling efforts of 4 for 36. Spinner Ajaz Patel was expensive, but he picked 3 wickets to his name. Other bowlers also performed well and assured a huge win for their team. Now, Stags has huge reason to cheer more. The New Zealand international, Ross Taylor who scored century in the last ODI vs Australia is now in Stags squad and he is ready to play on Wednesday. That’s the big boast for Stags. If Central Stags brings a performance like last match on Wednesday, they will surely assure their place in knock-out.

 

AUCKLAND ACES :

Team Auckland has won 3 matches and lost 1 game at end of first five rounds of league matches. They were at good position on that time. But two consecutive losses in last 2 matches pushed them down to 4th in the points table. As of now, Auckland Aces has 15 points and 5 points ahead of their opponent on Saturday, Stags. As Aces equals the points with Knights who are at 3rd position, Aces faces Stags in must-win game. Auckland faced Otago in high-scoring match on last Wednesday and faced 33 runs defeat. Expensive bowling by Auckland bowlers allowed Otago to post 340 runs in 50 overs. While chasing a big target, Auckland batters were fought hard, but fall short of 33 runs. Openers Jeet Raval and Glenn Phillips gave a good start, Sean Solia also joined with them and scored useful 64 runs. But, the wickets fell in regular intervals made tough for Aces and they managed to score 307 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Rob Nicol and Michael Barry fought hard in death overs, but that was not enough to cross the line for Aces.

In last match, Aces lost to Canterbury by the margin of 25 runs. Some of Auckland bowlers gone expensive once again and that helped the opposition to score 276 runs in 50 overs. Ferns and Chapman bowled over 7 runs per over in that game. Grobbelaar was the most wicket-taker of that innings, who picked 3 for 58 in 10 overs. Tarun Nethula also bowled well and picked 2 wickets for 41 runs. While chasing the target, opener Glenn Phillips fell early for 5 runs. An another opener Jeet Raval also followed him with 19 runs. Sean Solia batted well again, but did not succeed in convert the good start to big score. Rob Nicol anchored the innings so well and scored 76 runs. Robert O’Donnell and Mark Chapman supported him well in the middle-overs. Still, that was not enough for Aces to taste a victory and the result put them in a situation of must win game on Wednesday. As the national duties are over at the moment, New Zealand’s Colin Munro, Colin de Grandhomme and Lockie Ferguson are joined the squad to face Stags on Wednesday. Michael Barry and Ferns were dropped from the squad. As all three players Munro, Grandhomme and Ferguson are expected to play in this must win game, at least 3 changes are guaranteed in Aces line-up on Wednesday.
