The second ODI between New Zealand vs South Africa is scheduled to start at 11 AM Local | 3:30 AM IST on Wednesday, 22nd February 2017.

NEW ZEALAND :

The home team was in astonishing form throughout this home summer. They defeated Pakistan 2-0 in Test Series and whitewashed Bangladesh in all formats of the game. Kiwis side also defeated their neighbor Australia by 3-0 in ODIs. But in this on-going tour, New Zealand is struggling to maintain their good home form and lost both of the matches they played against South Africa last week. After losing the one-off T20I vs South Africa, New Zealand lost the first match of this on-going ODI series too. In the rain affected first ODI, Blackcaps managed to post 207 runs for 7 wickets in 34 overs. Opener Tom Latham done a wicket-keeper work too in that game. Earlier in the game, he got out for without troubling the scorers after facing 11 balls. His opening partner Dean Brownlie and the skipper Kane Williamson steadied the partnership for the second wicket and put 50-runs partnership for second wicket. Once the Brownlie walked back for 31 runs, experienced Ross Taylor followed him after scoring just a single run. Neil Broom, who was in stunning form in recent times lost his wicket for just 2 runs. Captain Kane Williamson scored an another half-century in his ODI career before he got out for 59 runs off 53 balls. James Neesham and Mitchell Santner tried hard to cope up and score runs for their team. Both of them dismissed for 29 and 17 respectively. Power-hitting by Colin Grandhomme and Tim Southee in late in the innings helped the side to post healthy 207 runs in 34 overs. Grandhomme scored 34 runs off 19 balls with 3 sixers, Tim Southee also scored quick-fire 24 runs off 13 balls.

While defending the target, except the spinners Santner and Sodhi all other bowlers gone above 6 RPO. Santner picked 1 for 33 in 7 overs and Sodhi picked 1 for 36 in 7 overs. Experienced fast bowling duo Trent Boult and Southee gone expensive and shared 3 wickets among them. Skipper Williamson picked a wicket in his expensive 2 overs spell. After losing that first match, New Zealanders are in a position to win a game in Christchurch and level the series 1-1. If they miss the chance to level the series, it would trouble them and force them to win all 3 remaining matches. On Fantasy note, captain Kane Williamson is worthy pick. Tom Latham proved a lot in last 2 years as an ODI opener. Experienced batsman Ross Taylor could make his come back into form at any moment. Neil Broom also had good season in this year and he also could come into form in Christchurch. All Rounders James Neesham, Mitchell Santner and Colin Grandhomme strengthen the batting order at no. 6-8. All these 3 all rounders could bowl effective spell on Wednesday. Ish Sodhi has chances to play another match on Wednesday. In case if he is not playing, Lockie Ferguson could make a return to playing XI. Fast bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult would keep their places in the XI as a frontline bowlers. Complete team performances are needed from Blackcaps to win this must win game.

SOUTH AFRICA :

The proteas has started their tour in successful manner and continuing their good home form in this tour too. After winning the one-off T20I in a convincing way, South Africa defeated the home team in the first ODI too. South Africa bowlers performed well in that rain affected match. Bowling All rounder Chris Morris was most expensive in this innings, but he picked 4 wickets in that spell. His spell of 4 for 62, helped his side to take an advantage. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada picked 2 wickets for 31 runs which includes a maiden. Most experienced leg spinner, Imran Tahir was unlucky and remained wicket-less. Another spinner in the side, Shamsi picked a wicket for 39 runs. Openers Quinton de Kock and Amla put up a nice partnership for an opening wicket. After putting 88 runs partnership for the first wicket, Hashim Amla dismissed for 35 runs.

Wicket keeper batsman Quinton de Kock completed his half-century and scored 69 runs in 64 balls. Faf du Plessis, man in form managed to score only 14 runs in that game. But, their captain AB de Villiers helped the side with his handy knock of 37 off 34 balls. Lower middle-order batsmen, Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo helped their captain and registered win in this series. On Fantasy view, the top four of South African batting lineup are a key and those players could surprise you with big scores at any time. JP Duminy lost his wicket for one run on other day but we knew his worth and he could big runs on Wednesday. As David Miller’s availability is not confirmed yet, chances for Behardien to play another match. If Miller proves the fitness on match day, he could replaces Behardien in the line-up. In case South Africa decides to add one more fast bowler in the attack, Shamsi could make a way for Wayne Parnell or Dwaine Pretorius. Tahir, Rabada, Parnell and Morris are a right combination for South Africa in this game. Overall, to secure a series win in this game is must needed for the visitors and complete team performances would help them to achieve it.
