Sydney Sixers hosts a Sydney Smash in 25th match of on-going BBL Season 6. Sydney Cricket Ground (S.C.G) will host this encounter between two Sydney teams, Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder. The match is scheduled to start at 6:10 PM Local | 12:40 PM IST on Saturday, 14th January, 2017.


The home team of this Sydney Smash, Sydney Sixers are in good position in points table after played 6 matches so far in the competition. Sixers has 8 points with 4 wins and 2 losses. Their NRR are in negative but their form in recent matches brought them into 3rd place in points table at the moment. New Zealand’s Colin Munro is a new signing for Sixers and he arrived in the city already. That means, Munro will play his debut BBL match for Sixers on Saturday. Overseas player from England Michael Lumb joined Sixers in last match and he started his season with 31 off 22 balls. He is expected to a play another good innings in this thriller. His opening partner Daniel Hughes also played a good innings vs Renegades, he scored 41 off 29 balls. His good form continued in that game, he needs to carry on his good show in Smash on Saturday. Nic Maddinson slotted in no. 3 and he played his part already. Skipper Moises Henriques was a player of the match in first Sydney Smash of the season and then he failed to score runs. But, he came back to form as well in the game vs Renegades on Monday and scored 30 off 20 balls. Veteran Wicket-keeper Brad Haddin played a handy knock at critical situation and took his team home. Jordan Silk is a batsman who might make a way for Colin Munro on Saturday. All rounders Johan Botha, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis played their part in recent matches and their contributions were key for Sixers to back in winning ways. Return back of Australian quickie Jackson Bird is the key for Sixers. He bowled average spell on Monday and picked a wicket. Another star bowler who returned to Sixers on Monday, Nathan Lyon remained wicket less in that contest. But as we all know, he is a match winner and he could turn the table at any moment. Will Somerville and Bollinger were the players who sat out in last match and expected to be sit out for this game too.


The team who started the season with a tag ‘defending champions’, Sydney Thunder lost first four matches in a row in this season. But their performances in last 2 matches, kept their chances alive in the tournament. Thunder started the season with a huge loss vs Sixers in first Sydney Smash of the season. Then they lost next 3 matches to Renegades, Heat and Scorchers respectively. The come back performances of captain Shane Watson helped the team in huge way and they registered their first win in the competition against Melbourne Stars and won it by 6 wickets. In the last game, Thunder came with second straight win and it came against Hurricanes this time. Overseas players James Vince (replacement for Eoin Morgan) and Carlos Brathwaite (replaced injured Russell) were played their first game for Thunder on last Sunday vs Hurricanes. Bowlers Clint McKay, Pat Cummins and Carlos Brathwaite bowled a good spells and restricted Hurricanes for 161 for 8. While chasing a target, James Vince played a good knock and scored 44 off 28 balls. His partner Kurtis Patterson scored 23 runs and these two scored 62 runs for the first wicket stand. Captain Shane Watson’s brisk knock of 55 off 31 ensured a win over Hurricanes in that game. Ben Rohrer also contributed well in last few games and his middle-order batting is key for his team. Power hitter Brathwaite picked 2 wickets with bowl and expects him to smash some big hits at SCG on Saturday. Bowler Pat Cummins joined in Australia squad to play in ODI series vs Pakistan. Gurinder Sandhu is expected to be in 13-men squad. Overall, Thunder needs to play well and should register their 3rd win to keep them in competition.
