Sri Lankan Cricket Team travels to South Africa to play all 3 formats of the game. The tour starts with Test series and the first test begins in Port Elizabeth on Boxing Day. Two teams are scheduled to play three match test series. After that test series, 3 T20I and 5 ODIs follows up.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced 15-member squad for three match test series against South Africa. Regular skipper of Lankans, Angelo Mathews returns to the team after sidelined for last few months due to injury. Also, vice-captain of the team, Wicket Keeper Batsman Dinesh Chandimal also makes his return to the team. Fast Bowler Dushmantha Chameera who got injured back in May 2016 also makes his return to the squad with this test series.

Surprise element are Vikum Sanjaya, the uncapped fast bowler got an opportunity to be in 15-members squad for the first time. Batsman Upul Tharanga who made a successful return to tests on the tour of Zimbabwe also retained his place in the squad. Spin duo Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera in the squad too.
