McDonld’s Super Smash – New Zealand’s T20 tournament hosts it’s 22nd match of the season on Wednesday, between Otago Volts vs Wellington Firebirds at Molyneux Park in Alexandra. Bottom two of the points table Volts and Firebirds faces each other in this clash to improve their positions and also make chances closer to qualify for knockout rounds. This match is scheduled to start at 2 PM Local | 6:30 AM IST on 28th December, Wednesday.

Otago Volts is a host of this match. Volts is at no. 5 in the points table at the moment with 12 points. Otago won 3 matches and lost 4 in 7 matches they played so far. Otago Volts lost their last match to Canterbury Kings at this same venue and lost it by 16 runs. Bowlers were done good job and controlled Kings to 152 runs in 20 overs. But, while chasing a target, Volts lost both of their openers inside 2 overs. Middle order batsmen scored some runs but their scoring rate were below 100. Christi Viljoen came with quick fire 32, but still Otago failed to chase down the target successfully. To win a game against Firebirds, both batters and bowlers of Volts should come up with a good show. All round performances from them should take Volts to 4th spot.

On other side, Wellington Firebirds had lot of tough time in first four round of matches where it lost all 4 matches in a row. Then, Firebirds came up with back-to-back wins against Auckland Aces and started their points count. But, Firebirds lost to Central Stags in the last match they played on Boxing day. Stags defeated Firebirds by 6 wickets. Firebirds’s batting order collapsed completely against Stags and bowled out for just 133 runs. Middle order batsmen Murdoch, Elliott and Blundell scored 32, 39 and 20 respectively. All others batters fell cheaply. Bowlers of Firebirds tried hard to control Stags batsmen, but Stags chased down the target successfully in just 17 overs. Firebirds should play well in all aspects on Wednesday to keep their hope alive in the competition.
