New Zealand’s own T20 Tournament, McDonald’s Super Smash – 2016 reached interesting and entertaining stages. In 25th match of the competition, Knights takes on Wellington Firebirds at Hamilton on Friday, 30th December. The match is scheduled to start at 7:10 PM Local | 11:40 AM IST.

Knights is in good form in last few matches and that helped it to reached top 2 in the points table. Knights top-order batsmen gave a back-to-back to their team in this week. On Tuesday, Knights defeated Auckland Aces by 9 wickets. Half centuries from openers Watling and Brownlie sealed a win for Knights. Knights faced Canterbury Kings on Thursday with a focus of move inside top 3 in the table. Great bowling efforts from Knights bowlers stunned Kings batting order and they scored 127 for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Jono Boult, Kuggeleijn, Sodhi and Lawford all came with economical spells and also picked a wickets. While chasing a target, openers Watling and Brownlie came with solid opening stand once again which assured an another win for Knights. In the end Knights chased down the target inside 18 overs and won it by 6 wickets. Knights is at no. 2 in Points table, currently. To secure a place in knock out rounds, Knights should maintain their good form in the game against Firebirds on Friday.

Wellington Firebirds is at no. 5 in the points ladder. Firebirds has good chances to qualify for next round. Firebirds has to win both remaining matches to advances to next round. As their NRR is looking good compare to other teams in the competition, Firebirds needs two wins to secure a place in Knockout stage. Firebirds lost 4 matches in a row, but they came back well with 3 wins in last 4 matches. On Wednesday, Firebirds first controlled Otago Volts under 160 runs. Later on Firebirds Captain Hamish Marshall smashed brilliant Century which led the team to chased down the target successfully and Firebirds won it by 6 wickets. Marshall’s innings was a turning point of the match and he came with outstanding knock at right time and led the team from the front. To keep knockout chances alive, Firebirds needs their batters and bowlers to perform well once again on Friday.

Jeetan Patel is in 12-men squad for this match. But, New Zealand coach called him to join New Zealand squad for final ODI against Bangladesh which takes place on Saturday. Therefore, Jeetan Patel would miss this game.
